Massively is issuing you a challenge ANet!
If we get a non committal response from Gail I’d take that as a positive sign that ANet has something up it’s sleeve.
Pretty sure there’s no doubt here. I can guarantee they won’t do nothing to the game all of 2015. So yes, ANet does have something up its sleeve that they will do next year.
It’s just likely to be nothing those guys on Massively predicted.

Apparently the media thinks your going to at least announce a major expansion; the challenge as been set!
mounts? do they even play gw2? lol
It’s massively, they’re good at saying stupid things forumgoers claim to want.
As for wow, it only has players because of E-Stockholme Syndrome. They keep players by constantly putting out expansions you have to pay for, and the “customers” keep buying.
So when a player buys a WoW expansion they’re doing so because they’ve been psychologically manipulated and/or damaged by an evil corporation, but when a player logs into GW2 for a LS update or drops money in the cash shop for an infinite gathering tool they’re so because they’re some sort of enlightened free-thinker? Nice double standard.
That whole discussion is weird, but ‘free’ vs. ‘buy’ makes those REALLY different (which also applies to subscriptions really).
Darkace is right in saying that it’s the same for both games. All companies want people to play their games and all companies make changes to try to “pressure” people to continue playing them. Right or wrong, that’s how it is.
Anet is giving people a reward to log in to get people into the habit of logging in. It’s a good strategy….but it’s still a strategy.
WoW uses other strategies that are just as effective (or even more effective). Companies like Blizzard and Anet aren’t evil entities, but they do have an agenda. Like when I ran a business, I had an agenda. Didn’t mean I wanted to rip customers off. It didn’t mean I didn’t want to do the right thing by customers. But I also had to make a profit. I had to make enough to pay rent and employees and electricity and advertising.
Blizzard isn’t evil and Anet isn’t good.
They’re offering different products appealing to, in many cases, different audiences, with different ideas about what an MMO should be.
I think it is too late for an expansion. Those that have left GW2 have found new homes and are busy there, so they most likely not return. When fans consider if they want to buy an expansion they compare the content and quality to other games. An GW2 expansion will most likely be released 3 years after main game but the look and feel would not have changed much. So I think it will struggle against the competition, for instance against Black Desert.
In stead of using/wasting time on an expansion I think it would be better to use time and money on a new game. It could be GW3 or something else. I think most would want a completely new game world.

A lot of people left the original gw1 too. After the new campaign(s) people started to get back into it.
Releasing a boxed expansion has the risk to exclude players thus reduce their income even further. But i guess the company and the publisher already calculated with this and the option to release it via the LS or heck, maybe it can be purchased in the future with gems (read, it’s “free” if you convert gold into gems), who knows?

Sell it for Gems, then people could always play the game to exchange gold for the Gems.
I predict that holiday content for 2015 will be recycled from 2012-2014.
Only new item will be A Glorious Box, which contains Magnificent Bag, which once opened gives Gilded Purse, and inside of it players will get three Silvery Chests and three Ivory Chests. These can be opened. Inside will be 1-3 Pouches of the Festival, and 1-3 Sacks of the Festival. These containers hold an extremely rare Ascended Cache of Ascended Materials, and more common Fine Cache of Fine Materials. Once opened, players can choose which Coffer of Ascended Material to have, and which Coffer of Fine Materials to have. Once chosen, players can double-click the Bundles of Ascended/Fine Materials, and receive 1-5 pieces of chosen items. Fun, exciting and extremely rewarding!
This would actually be funny if it wasn’t so true…
Why Anet do you do this? ;_;

Because a company would be insane to have full staff over the holidays which would be required for new untested content.
