I noticed recently using my Master Salvage Kit on 75+ rares/exotics, I am not getting ecto’s anymore, I get 1 ecto maybe every 6-8 salvages… I salvaged 13 rare’s last night got 2 ecto’s from it…did they nerf the rate on you obtain them or do I just have horrid luck (well more so than usual for me)….Weeks ago, (2+), I would salavge 10 rares, and get maybe 8 ecto’s~ or if it was a bad day. 5-6, but now… im thinkin it be cheaper to sell the rares and just buy the ecto’s…any thoughts?

Just bad luck. I remember not getting rares or anything for a while…then i stopped playing for a long duration and started back again and i was getting rares back to back from dungeons/salvage

I think this game does not want me to get a legendary…. T6 materials never drop, Ecto’s never come into my bags, Badges of Honor hate me… -hands head- stupid weapon…

Haha Geo, I wish i had 80g to blow myself, <— poor person. A few people I talked too were having bad ecto luck as well, so was curious if it was a nerf or just horrid luck on our behalf. (well horrid luck is my luck…so.)

I usually salvage with Black Lion Kits and I get awesome results.
I ran out yesterday and started salvaging with Master Kits, the results were so bad that I decided to save up and just buy more BLK.

I know it is rng- but I was quite shocked at how bad it was.
Now my only conundrum is that if I convert all the gold I made last week to buy more Kits, I’ll be right back where I started and by the time I made it back- I’ll be out of Kits again

I salvage with the mystic salvage kit. If there has been a nerf, it’s a really small 1. I average over the long haul just under an ecto per rare salvaged.

Maybe if I salvage 20 rares, I get 18 or 19 ecots…maybe even 17. I haven’t noticed a huge difference. Of course, that has nothing to do with the master salvage kit.

I just finished the last of my BLSKs (free from dailies) and am using master’s kits now. While there is a noticeable difference in rate of return, I’m still getting a good rate from the master’s kits and the math in the thread Geotherma refers to leads to the conclusion that the cost of BLSKs outweighs the increase in ecto return, so I’ll just wait till I get some more free ones.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think the price of the mystic kit is probably cheaper than the master over the long haul. yes, you need 3 forge stones, but then the kit has 250 uses.

You can also get the stone “I think” from daily’s sometimes. So they could essentially be free at some point if your lucky.

A black lion kit costs 300 gems at the current rate that is 9g to buy.
25 rares contain 75 ecto’s (3 each). A master (or mystic) salvage kit will give a 25% of on getting each ecto; therefore on average a master salvage kit will get you 18.75 ecto’s. A black lion kit will give you a chance 50%; resulting in 37.5 ecto’s on average.
At the present price (22s) this will give you approx 4g. So that does not appear to be worth it. For this to be worth it either ecto’s need to more than double in price or gem prices need to go down to 1.3g

A mystic kit costs 36s (for the three salvages kits) + 3 forge stones which are 150 gems which is 4.5g. At 250 uses this is approx 2s per use. The original 3 kits had 75 charges costing about 0.5s per use. So that would not be worth it either. For this to be cheaper the gems would have to be 56s per 100 or less

At least that’s what it made me think the other day, I had salvaged 4 rares in a row (master kit) and got no ectos, so as a joke when I got an extra rare from claw of jormag’s chest (along with the bonus chest one), I wrote in guild chat “Oh great gods of RNG, look down unto your humble faithful and bestow unto me your holy globs”…. and got 6 ectos out of the 2 rares…

Be sure to check the part where I said not to buy kits for salvaging, but to use ones you have received free :P I recommended if people did want to buy then straight out, it was best to buy to remove expensive (2g+) runes/sigils from armor or weapons.

Master (and Mystic) kits yield 0.9 ecto per rare.
Black Lion kits yield 1.25 ecto per rare.

Current prices of salvage kits per salvage: (3.02g / 100 gems)
Black Lion Salvage kit = 36.24s
Mystic Salvage kit = 1.736s
Master Salvage kit = 0.6144s

with ectos at 22s each, the expected profits from salvaging rares using each of these:
Black Lion Salvage kit = 22*1.25 – 36.24s = -8.74s
Mystic Salvage kit = 22*0.9 – 1.736s = 18.06s
Master Salvage kit = 22*0.9 – 0.6144s = 19.19s

so unless you get BLSK for free or as a by-product of opening a bunch of chests looking for a skin, you’re losing money with each salvage.
Mystic is only cheaper than Master if gems are less than 0.94g per 100 gems.
BLSK is only more profitable than MSK if it’s socketed with something that’s worth more than 1.4g.

Usually I get one ecto using master salvage kits, been as high as 3 yesterday. I might get a bad RNG streak and not get one after 3 or 4 salvages, but that is fairly rare.

I don’t usually do my salvages in bulk though. I prefer to open bags and chests in small batches and with some time between them. It might be a little ritual/obsessive of me but I don’t get quite as frustrated at poor results because they are not compounded by seeing it all at once either.

Similar experience here. I salvaged 30 rares last night with mystic kit. Rares were a mixture of high 70’s and lvl 80 items (20 from loot drops and 10 from dungeon token purchases). Between the 0’s and 3’s I ended up with 31 ectos at the end.

I also get pretty few ectos from rares recently. Often 50% I get 1 ecto, but I guess it’s still just bad luck.
