The Thief. A profession that a lot of players moved away from because there are plenty of better professions for helping take on PVE content and in WvW we are just scouts. Other professions are far more useful and effective in WvW. So what are thieves left with exactly?
The dark irony of this is warriors & Rangers have been using:
Great sword – Charge / Leap
and
Sword – Leap
To have equal or greater mobility than classes who are suppose to have greater mobility then them..
If they are going to make it so teleport’s need a target within range then Great Sword charge / leap and Sword Leap should REQUIRE a target within range too since Warriors and Rangers are not suppose to be the mobility kings.
If ANet are only going to make it so teleports need a target in range and not warriors/ranger weapon skills than this changed is biased and blatantly unfair.
Chasing target : he/she is at 2000 range away, gs 3# target is 1600 range away. Oh well time for coffee.
You being chased by 3 ppl: Lock other target at 2000 range, push JI, nothing happens. Write /wave and wait until you die.
Works as intended.

Hmm, not gonna say good or bad but is this one of those changes that get put in without any feedback, and all resulting feedback gets ignored so they’ll hope people will forget about it?

This. And even if it’s the case that they don’t want the feedback I wish they would be upfront about it i.e. “we’re doing this because of x and y and trying to accomplish z” at least to calm these threads.
Here is a List about the biggest mobility skills ingame for each class Without!!!! A target.
Warrior – GS 1200
Necro – Spectral Walk/Fleshworm 1200
Ranger – GS 1100/1200 (not sure About the exact Range)
Engi – rocket boots with swiftness 1100/1200?
Thief – Shadow Step 1200
Ele – RtL 1200
Mesmer – Blink 900 (traited 1200)
-> Guardian – GS 600 <-
So ANet, don’t nerf the other classes, just give Leap 1100-1200 Range or JI Ground Target Skill. THX BB

This change makes me so frustrated. Chaining teleports to close large gaps is so much fun. This is really going to cause me to rethink my play style. Now, every warrior / ele will bring out their greatsword and disappear off into the sunset.
Also, I really wish Anet would comment on why they feel this change is necessary. There are classes with broken traits, cele in pvp, etc etc. I never heard anyone whine about teleports.
Why frustrated? Do you have ANY proof that the “leaked notes” are true? Don’t get wind up over something that hasn’t been proven to be implemented For myself, I only believe the patch notes on the day it is officially released hahaha. makes life so much easier

It was in the chinese Patch notes. They are not leaked, they are official.

Guys, please dont freak out over the chinese patchnotes. Yes, they can´t exactly be considered a leak since their origin is an official source and they have been posted at their usual time, just have been pulled because the patch got delayed.
But the problem is: even though the source is entirely trustworthy, all we know is google translated letter slush. While the wording overall seems to imply what we all are thinking, that teleports won´t work outside of range, it may be just due to how the translation is kittened up. For me, it would make perfect sense that this “nerf” is indeed just a bugfix where the affected teleportation /shadowstepping skill just won´t activate if the pathing can´t find a valid path to the specified target and instead go on the usual interrupt cooldown. Whatever is meant by “valid path” will soon enough be publicly known.
Just take a look at it from the practical side: I am pretty sure ArenaNet knows about their (sorry, but it is true – not meant to be offensive!) patheticly bad pathing. Teleports which should work don´t and teleports which obviously shouldn´t work do – flawless. If they didn´t optimize / fix, completly rework (would be the best) how teleportation, or, in this case, shadowstepping works, these changes would cause a massive catstorm, especially if this change was meant to nerf the use of targeted shadowstepping skills like Judge’s Intervention, Infiltrator Signet and so on outside of their specified range. Its not like it was something new though because this is how Steal always works. Steal will go on a five second cooldown when you try to steal from a target outside of Steal’s range. So whatever happens, i am pretty confident that in this case ArenaNet more likely fixed a broken mechanic instead of just nerfoing what the whole meta is used to. The worst case interpretation of the google translated letter slush isn’t as bad if teleportation /shadowstepping finally works as intended. Gotta love my 10k units range of Shadow Trap teleportation even if i´m not on a completly flat terrain with no obstacles anywhere between me and the trap, be it Z-axis, curves, stones or even a small pebble on the road. Or x teleportation skill going on CD but zapping me exactly 0 units away from my current position.

God, I hate it when people justify this as a “bugfix” when it’s clearly a significant balance change. It’s like saying “oh the ship isn’t sinking, the sea level’s just risen 50 meters on each side.”
If this change really goes through (and it probably will), it’s really going to completely screw over Guardians. While Mesmers and Thieves have other options, they just further condemned Guards to being the absolute slowest class in the game. For over two years, not a single peep has been raised about this and now we get this resounding boot into oblivion out of nowhere? I guess this is what happens when all the balance team ever plays are signet warriors. I guess Guardians ever being useful is violating their game mode.
After two years there is no Bug. After two years, you keep it because it works! (not talking about skill bugs like Scepter AA from Guard or the Focus of Mesmer which doenst stack swiftness.) This, for me, is a gameplay mechanic which will be changed without any word from ANet, without asking the Com.
People cry over Celestial in PvP and other things, but not about these teleports!!!
And why should a teleport find a path? It’s a ‘teleport’ !

Did you even read what i wrote? All we have is a string of text generated by google translate. So why is this a “significant balance change” when all it really does may just be skills not going on CD when the teleport / shadowstep would fail? Really, you may interprete way too much into the translation. It only is a balance change if the changes really mean to make teleports into the direction of the target impossible, if the target is out of range. It might just as well really be a pathing fix or some kind of check that happens befor the skill activates in order to prevent teleports / shadowstep from malfunctioning, not from functioning at all.
