I have a strong feeling that those flame armors aren’t exactly the will of Arenanet’s developers. They sound way too passionate about their game to do something like that. I bet they’re just as upset as us right now, not that we would ever know…

This travesty towards human scholars sounds more like NCSoft’s work than Arenanet’s. I mean, it’s pretty obvious that whoever did that crap just picked whatever set he/she thought would sell without a care for what those sets represent, because the choices of set are way too random. I mean, you have the human T3 for light, the WvWvW unique set for medium, and… a cheap Kessex Hills set for heavy? It doesn’t sound like the picks that someone who actually knew the game would make. At all.

Next time if this keeps going, I bet it will be just as random. Why not an Arah set, an Heritage set and the light starter set?

There are rumors that NCSoft isn’t doing too well… And 2014 has another layout of MMOs coming, including a WoW expansion that basically hand picks everything GW2 does well and leaves the bad out. What if NCSoft is giving up on GW2 and wants to milk it as much as they can until those games come out? I really hate the idea of giving up on this game, but when I see in the same day cheap armor reskins for 10$ in the cash shop, and then a tasteless advertisement campaigns like the GW2 oath, it scares me…

So – last time I posted this thread was on page 3. We are now on page 8. Could they really not have noticed it all this time?

Its almost two in the morning during a period that is often paid time off in some industries. Not excusing a lack of response I just wonder if the people who can make a call on this are on their way to grandma’s house for turkey and pie.

This thread has been around all day long. If they were going to respond, they would have done it by now.

Personally, Anet, I think it’s strange you didn’t have some pre-planned statement to acknowledge the complaints that you had to know would be incoming. Here’s my suggestion:

“Hi guys! Sorry for the delay in my response, but we’ve been busy with the update and the holiday. Happy turkey day for those of you in the US! It’s great to have all my relatives in town and I’m feeling really thankful for many things this year.

We understand that many of you are upset or disappointed with the direction we’ve taken with our latest set of gem store armor skins, and I personally understand that to some degree. Some responses have been inappropriate and over-the-top, but I do appreciate the respectful discussion from the rest of you.

The fact of the matter is that there are variations on these armors that we feel make them distinct enough to stand on their own as unique and separate from the sets you are associating with them. Again, I apologize to those of you who are disappointed, but this is not something we are going to reconsider. I also cannot comment on the potential for future skins inspired by legendary weapons or other cultural armor, except to say that nothing is off the table. Thank you for bearing with us, and have a happy holiday, everyone! I’m off to eat some turkey!"

Anet, if you want to hire me to write these up for you, I might consider it. You have my email address.

Why is everyone so angry? I’m perfectly happy and okay with this change. Now I can buy T3 armour for pvp without grinding to rank 80! No one loses anything with this change, there are only good sides.

Amazing job anet.

Humans lose uniqueness and get nothing to compensate while every other race gains a new skin.

Exactly
i wonder if there are more players with T3 or with old fotm skins/fotm lvl 31+/alts

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

I hear good things about ArenaNet before i bought this game and based on it i bought GW2 (never played in GW1) so i don’t really had any experience with that company.

Howered now i do, and im officially putting ArenaNet next to EA in the category of worse companies ever, and i won’t touch any of their future products they have to offer.

From poor pve to poor pvp they failed in every aspect of this game;

-Tons of bugs? Check.
-Poor and slow balance causing build vs build, hardcounters? Check.
-Olny 1 pvp gamemode? Check.
-Lack of rewards in spvp? Check
-No new features in WvW behind failed bloodlust? Check.
-Stretched armors with clipping issues everywhere for charr and asura? Check.
-Timegated stuff? Check.
-Temp contest that noone give a kitten about it other than AP? Check
-Poorly done pve causing go full zerk or go home? Check.
-Reskinned armors, even a cultural? Check.
-Sellable legendaries? Check.
-Tons of grind (when they says its grindfree game), rng? Check.
-Lack of features common in other MMO’s (GvG, duels and so on)? Check.
-Pooory written game engine creating huge fps problems and skill lag? Check.
-Disrecpect to players that wasted time on fractals above lv 30? Check.
-Disrecpect to customer in general, lack of responses? Check.

Thats how i see AN, as a company that fails in everything they touch, i wish them luck in 2014 tho. New mmos coming out, and im sure once it happen, i will be gone from GW2 and from AN for good, and when someone ask me about GW i will tell them “avoid that kitten and the AN company from miles” for a good reason.

I am happy for all the players who bought this newer, better looking version of the Human T3 armor (better is an opinion, I mean it is fire they used).

I do not own this set but I was working towards it. I am working towards a number of T3 sets for their uniqueness and for the Title and Achievement. I do own Asuran light T3. (where the shoulders still don’t show, or any shoulder for that matter — might want to fix this someday)

Now for some players 119g is no big deal. But for a good deal of us who earned that gold it is a big deal and a time investment. Now you can open your wallet and pay a fraction of the cost and get updated effects on it.

To make matters ever worse they took 2 other skins which are more easily obtainable and slapped some fire on them as well. These are re-skins with very little thought put into it, which is why players are calling it a cash grab.

Do players want more armor? Yes most of us do. And we are willing to pay 800 gems for original armor. Sometimes that armor is a hit and sometimes it’s a miss but it’s new and original. I know work still goes into a re-skin. But there is significantly less work that goes into that then a new design.

So why is the price for that work the same? At launch armor skins were 600 gems and they quickly rose too 800. Most players were ok with this because it was new armor. You want to give us more variety and re-skin armor then charge us less. Of course this would have made the T3 re-skin even worse by comparison. Side note; a good deal of us are really tired of just adding fire to things as well. Try to think of something else, other than fire to add effects wise.

This patch has so many problems with it and it is compounding on itself. So while you see people angry about the armor (rightly so), it’s really more than just the armor they are upset about. This has been slowly building for months and this might be the tipping point, then again it might not.

I hope arena net is listening. I know they are in fact. I just hope they figure out how to do things right by their players in the future. I’ve lost faith with this patch and at this point I don’t know what to do.

But what is worse is how they used reskins, and horrible ugly ones at that. Why did they not make some new fiery armour? Sigh.

Sorry, I could not care less about this new armour set.

To me it a bad reskin of some of the worst looking armour in the game. The medium and heavy are simply atrocious, with the human t3 light not much better.

If human t3 light wearers have their knickers in a bunch over this, then their problem was paying 100+ gold for it in the first place, while there are much cheaper and arguably better looking light armour options around.

I would not use any of this new set if given out for free …

You shouldn’t blame the developers and testers – these people work hard and (most likely) are always under the command of a superior, who is under the command of another superior, and so on. Big decisions such as this one come from people who have distanced themselves from the game itself and only think about the business side of things.

I’ve personally stopped playing a while ago, but not because of this. I always wanted the best things from GW and they haven’t arrived yet. Maybe they never will. And GvG, duelling, leveling zones with world pvp – those might not ever be implemented in GW2. I wanted to see HoH, UW and FoW re-makes, but I am 99% sure it will not happen. It’s quite the let down.

Anyway, this Gem Store failure is absolutely not going to draw me back into the game. On the contrary, I have no plans of returning. I remember that I worked to get my human t3 set, and that I also had to transmute it. It’s enough that the items aren’t even sold with free transmutation (AS THEY SHOULD.), but they had to surgically remove any remaining worth this set had. Maybe some people don’t care about such notions, but this decision was made by an unqualified person, one that had little to no experience.

I found most of rage and complains on the forum usually “stupid”, made by people with too many spare time, few real game knowledge and/or too narrow minded. I always analyzed them with a strongly critical approach finding only few of them to be really worthwhile. I don’t mean that AN is always right, and by my measure they already lost the grip on some important pillar.

However… this armor issue is far from defensible, as least as it has been implemented. I would had left a chance of discussing it if they added all the cultural at the same time for all the races.

It’s quite useless to tell here why the new asskissed.. i mean flamekissed sorry*, are a low blow for many players, most of the reasons are related the people themselves, their goals and feels. All things difficult to understand from outside (it’s enough difficult to understand that between player, i highly doubt it’s possible between a player and dev looking at the same thing at the same time) but… really speaking about “things that can fit a spreadsheet”, an upgraded version of a specific armor available for anyone at half the price and not requiring transmutations is very “rude”.

I mean that most people are feeling likes you’re saying “sorry dude, the cultural was looking like a good money sink and possible gem seller for stones however it doesn’t turn out as expected, instead we found a better way that works wonders. It sinks gold while increasing gems prices and it’s contributing with direct cash.”

“oh.. you said something? …120 gold… yellow armor… not skin, need transmutation… made a human for T3… Can’t hear you”

*and sorry again for the pun regards new and flamekissed… at least if you’re human…

It’s not that the “new” T3 look is cheaper than the Cultural set. It’s the fact that the set was, until yesterday, unique to Humans. Anyone can have it now.

The analogy in real life would be similar to having your favorite grandmother take a lot of time and effort to make you a quilt that is special and only for you…only to have her start mass producing almost the exact same quilt for anyone to buy. All of a sudden your quilt isn’t so special any more, and it makes you feel like maybe you’re not so special either.

As someone else said…I am so glad I didn’t grind for a Legendary or Ascended. I’ll wait for the reskins in the TP…

While i totally agree with this, i think you guys are missing the point here.

For every one of us here on the forum, there are 10s in game. The people reading (and complaining) on the forum are a minority. And the people complaining, even if it seems the majority, is the minority due to the fact that usually if someone is happy with the game you know, he plays it instead of spending time out of it.

This said, I played a couple of hours today and i’ve seen a lot of the new armor skins around, especially in tpvp. Why? ‘cause lots of people like it. We really like the idea to play this great mmorpg for free, so we should stop complaining about other people financing our playtime.
My thief has human t3, but what’s the point of it? I like it. I couldn’t care less if other people, maybe not even humans, had something similar. I like it, and i go with it. That’s the whole point of the game guys..

Again, they will be making money out of it, a lot. All the complainings on the forum won’t make them change their mind and why? Because it’s going to take a couple of clicks for them to notice that for each people compalining, 10 are buying the new armor. So, the majority of their playerbase is probably enjoing the add..

And FYI, i haven’t bought the new armors (yet, probably gonna go for the flamekissed with my asura ele though..looks decent and i already have light asura t3 on 2 characters..)

I’m sorry, I disagree. Some things have to be sacred, especially when it comes to cultural armor, which by definition is supposed to be exclusive to a single race. If Anet is at the point where they have to a) re-skin old armors and b) destroy the whole point of cultural armor and c) do so at the expense of one particular race/class combination (human scholars) just to make a quick buck, then it bodes very ill for future releases. At best, it’s lazy and indifferent. At worst, it’s desperate.

800 gems for a reskin is a bit steep if you ask me, especially as it is not going to benefit all races and armour types. I am hoping that they will release other armour sets that will allow other races to gain a new style of armour. For example (hint hint Anet) I would love for my human chars to be able to get Norn cultural armour, for all armour types. I will not be wasting my gems on this set, as most of my chars are human, and I do not think a small fiery effect is worth 800 gems.

If it was a dye that produced the flame effect, then that would be different and well worth the 800 gems.

Its obvious that this new flamekissed light armor is going to be a big hit, but you have to see what path will such act lead to game’s future. If they are willing to cash in on the prestige armors (aka T3 cultural armor) then in future they might be willing to do so with Legendary Items also.

How would you feel having a Eternity Skin available on TP for 800 gems(or even 1600)? This would be a measly 100G or 200G depending on the gem price rise as compared to the current price of over 4000G. It will be an instant bestseller.
I know I am taking an extreme example but this is where this path leads to.

Anyone is the game who has spent time and effort on getting that unique item/skin/legendary should be aware of this possibility.

^ the just created female/male models for the Charr for this.

I’m not quite sure we are talking about the same thing. Unlike the other races (except Asura), there is no armor difference between female and male Charrs.
I didn’t verify it, but I’m pretty sure even with this armor it’s still the case, or else we would have heard about female Charr wearing such a skimpy top and skirt.

If Anet allows female humans to wear all the Charr racial armors, they will have to make another version for them. And not only because I want more armor skins, but because this is what medium t3 looks like : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/9/91/Trapper_armor_medium_charr_both_front.jpg, now imagine it, without any changes, on a female human.

And yes, some non-humans in game find it cool to be able to buy human armor now, but next time anet will do something else which will kitten of those or any other group of players.
If they keep giving us crap, than in half a year they’ll be left with few very casual players, who logs into game so rare they even don’t care what devs do with it.

I believe 3 and 4 are npc clothing.

Eons ago, when EotN was released, players complained that NPCs got better armor than players, which was true. So one day, Anet said “don’t worry, anything a NPC wears, you can get it too”.

Of course now we know it wasn’t true.

But those armors weren’t NPC armors. In the mesmer preview video, you can see one wearing number 4.

You know why your boxes are not selling ANet?

Because you are keeping the same prize for a cheaper game.

This patch just made your game even cheaper.

Each patch you put art and things closer to WoW, you are reducing the value of your product.

GW2 at release had much more value than now and its not because it was something new, but because it was original.

The current game would never reach anyway close to your original selling even if it was released as new and nobody would know about it. It is just cheaper.

There are two general types of posts going on in this thread. I’m not going to argue that one side is being silly and one is being level-headed.

1) Emotion driven.
“I feel like ANet just spit in my face.”
“My human T3 has lost its prestige and exclusivity.”

2) Logic driven.
“Your human T3 armor has not been devalued at all.”
“What’s the problem with opening up cultural armors for all races?”

The emotion driven posts are coming from people who are upset, and it should be easy to see why, even if you are not one of these people. To me, many of these people don’t expect their post to change anything, they just want to hear something from ANet about why this was done.

The logic driven posts are coming from people who want to flesh out whether there is really a problem here, outside of perceived insult. It seems that some of these posters also want to use this opportunity to show ANet that players would welcome more access to cultural armor between races.

To all the emotional posters:
ANet has clearly shifted their position on cultural armor exclusivity, I think we can all agree on that. Maybe the best thing you can do is calmly voice your disappointment here, where there is a chance that the decision makers will take a look, then do your best to enjoy your T3 set as much as you did prior to the gem store update. Do this for yourself, for how much you like the way the armor looks, not for how hard it may have been for you to to acquire.

To all the logical posters:
Maybe now is not a good time. Yes, some of the perceived slights being voiced here may be a bit over the top from your perspective, but just because a poster is emotional does not make their perspective invalid. Try to understand the sentiment instead of deconstructing the arguments. Some of us have lots of T3 armor and don’t feel slighted in the least bit, but that’s not really relevant to the feelings of others.

Everyone I am as frustrated as everyone else in here, but we all have to think this for a second. Everyone here knows that this is the most ridiculous idea and I do know the value and time investment of getting these prestige look for your character. But think this over if you actually think ANet would put these up without thinking of the consequences from its player base.

This is the ANet that I know when they put up costumes to sell

I bought these my self back then when i was playing GW1, know that Anet is supported and funded I believe by NCSoft and who might be the one pulling the strings on this one. If your boss told you to do this for the cost of your job would you have a say to it? Business is business and the top level is always the ones pulling the trigger.

Maybe ANet is unhappy as we are, cause surely this brings them a bad image specially the creative team responsible for touching these armor.

Who are you to separate people into 2 biased groups that would fit your personal opinion?

“emotionals” and “logic driven”, could you be more obvious please? Why not players who don’t like the new patch, and people who doesn’t care about this game?

If you like the change, then you are with the people who like it, period. Not with “logic driven” users… I heard about people being entitled but man you have a record now.

There is a lot of posts that gave many good reasons why the “new” armors are a bad idea and are not written in an emotional way.

Cultural armor by its very definition is exclusive to a race.

The Flamekissed armor IS human scholar Tier 3 cultural armor, with a few flames tacked on, but is made available to all races.

Therefore, human scholars have lost their exclusivity in terms of having their own cultural armor skin; no other race/class combination gets the same treatment. This is unfair.

I don’t think that’s too illogical.

I understand that Anet might have changed their position about cultural armor being exclusive. It’s baffling why they’d do that now, but I understand. What I don’t understand is, again, why only human scholars were targeted like this.

Wow arenanet, I knew you were getting lazy, but this is a whole new kind of the term. Now, if you have any decency, you’ll proceed to fire both the person who “designed” these ‘new’ skins, and the person who ok’d it.

At least those costumes were account bound.

Look, it’s not our job to guess and pity Anet if ol’ meanie NCSoft is forcing them to take awful decisions. Our job is to voice our opinions without being disrespectful to them to make our remarks readable.

If they plan on releasing more racial armor on the gem store, which is great for me since I won’t have to buy t-stones, I hope they make them without any effects because I’m not a fan of particles and flames everywhere.
But releasing a Karma armor ? And not even the one most players are wearing ? That’s…it’s hard to understand the train of thoughts behind it.
If you reskin something, you take a popular skin. Not something players have been avoiding.

On the other side of the fence, there are people who have been been asking for ways to get T3 on other races. >_>

Of course they have…

but the implementation deliberately harms a subset of the playerbase.

IF they offered all T3 skins, it still would have been upsetting, but it would have been more equitable for everyone. As it is, they didn’t do that. They simple sold out one type (clothies) of one race (Humans.)

Yes, it will be an immensely popular item for people to get on their non-humans…still doesn’t make it right.

I’ve of the opinion they probably thought people wouldn’t notice. Considering how badly they underestimated the player base in every other way that matters, this theory is not without merit.
