Well, I’d like to know about future blooms … or at least a promise of a heads up for when the vendor vanishes. I had completely forgotten I still have blooms to spend. 555 of them, oy. So I can get the horns or the two toxic skins, plus a few smaller things, but feel no urgency since I’d like to know about future uses before I make the decision and none of them are things I wanted that much when they first appeared. I would be sore aggrieved did they remove the vendor without a reminder to spend our blooms.

Would be nice to know if blooms will be returning. I haven’t got many left so I’ll prob just delete them if we don’t hear today since it’s been nearly a week and a half waiting for the answer Gaile asked the team for.

I know I shouldn’t be surprised that I didn’t get a response, but I did PM Gaile in game the other day with the simple question of whether blooms would return to the game at some point (politely I might add).

This is something that she did say she would ask about. At this point she should have an answer. This was a terribly handled event in just about every aspect. I want it to go away just as badly as a great majority of the player base.

We are only asking so we can decide to spend our blooms or link them in game alongside our ‘Infinite Continue Coin’ and say “Never Forget!”.

Btw fun fact:

Gaile said by herself(!) she will ask for us the devs.

Its not the scenario that we (player) here arguing about the fact that gaile will not ask the devs

make the whole thing even more sad

we dont expect the answer yes it will come back , we only want a answer: yes or no

tomorrow was for 9 days but tomorrow is also before the next tomorrow

I see a couple of valid questions:

  • Will blooms be useful in the future?
  • Will the items currently on offer be returning?

I will ask about those tomorrow — it’s the weekend here in Bellevue — and will answer as soon as I know more. I’m sorry that I cannot give that information today, but I truly do not know the answers to those two questions.

Maybe Gaile can’t answer because the Devs haven’t decided whether they or going to use the Blossoms later. Or they think they will but would rather not say since they might change their mind.

I wouldn’t be waiting for an answer on this.

Sorry, I’m gonna keep holding my breath.

I need 20 more blooms to get a toxic skin. I worked the entirety of the event window and wasn’t able to grind the events to gather enough. It really is a simple question.

I realize they don’t owe us anything, but any response from a developer would be appreciated. Why should we settle for silence?

Why should you settle for silence? If that’s all that’s handed you then that’s what you’ll need to settle for. I have zero expectation they will answer. If they were going to do so they would have done it by now.

oh +1 still with 205 blooms and wondering if I just dump it all on unidentified dye. I worry that if I don’t make the choice soon they’ll pull the vendor on us.

So short term question… wil vendor stay until a decision is made?
Second Short Term…. are they currently “decding” on an answer?
Long Term… wll there ever be an opportunity to get more blooms and buy the current offerings with them?

Yes i really would rather hear a definite maybe instead of the actual beahviour… indeed!

but small talk at kittens thread seems to be more important…

I’m tickled that, over time, many members of our community have adopted “kitten” as a cover-all word, instead of posting The Words That Should Never Be Written™.

She sends the questions metaphorically upstairs and she hasn’t heard back or was told wait until Twitchcon is over or the launch because to busy to think about it. In all likelihood the request will get lost in all the noise dealing with pre-release, post-release, first major update, etc. They might not have even had an internal postmortem of that event yet to see if they would offer it again.

And it wouldn’t be unusual that she can only say definitive replies that have been vetted for release. So that leaves her with small talk.

Let’s put it another way.

Let’s say your job is Customer Relations. You get a question from a customer and you tell him that you will ask tomorrow and get back to him when you know more. If 11 days go by and you never contact the customer, even to say there is no answer, should the customer be satisfied with this?

Whilst there is no word on whether the blooms will be ever used again, I’m pretty confident that the merchant will be around for a while and if he is taken out, it will be announced beforehand. Given the negativity surrounding the original event and knowing that many players are still holding blooms, removing the merchant and therefore making blooms worthless would be tantamount to winding up the player base and they are not that stupid.

If there is no answer from Arenanet for a “yes/no” question that long, it means they have neither yes nor no as answer, which means they don’t know at the moment. They have not yet decided, if they should make the blooms a recurring currency or not.

Which means, the blooms were not ultimately designed as onetime currency. If they were, they would simply answer now: “Blooms have no use any more after the vendors disappear”. But they don’t.

So it is possible that they planned them to be the currency of some future event as well.

But if they answer: “keep them”, the players expect that some future event will give blooms, so this would establish come kind of commitment. Imagine the skritt storm if Arenanet yet decides to give that hypothetical future event a different currency and no blooms for reasons that pop up at that time.

It’s not an easy decision, because the event reward system and the vendor was largely frowned upon by the players for many well-founded reasons.

If you (as dev) change the vendor items or prices, you can expect a skritt storm as well, because if you make it cheaper, the players who already spent the blooms are upset. If you make it more expensive, the players who kept their blooms are upset. If you decide to drop the blooms, players are upset who expected to be able to restock their blooms at a future event and buy the items later.

If a future vendor will have different items, the players who already spent the blooms will be upset, because they want the new items. And the players who kept their blooms will also be upset, because they rather wanted the old items. And if you don’t change anything with the items, you have the same situation as with the failed event, which was basically a skritt storm as well.

It’s not easy. Each way is wrong. It’s a lose-lose situation.

So, in the end, I would drop that items if I were Arenanet and make a new currency for future events. It may be expensive in regard to developer time, but the blooms as currency are “burnt” from the player’s side. In anticipation, I acted this way and destroyed my blooms to free up the inventory space and get rid of the bad memory of that event.

But if there is a future event and blooms return, though, I will get new means to get them. If the drop rate and prices are the same as before, I will simply skip that event, so nothing was lost. If the prices are cheaper in that future event, the destroyed blooms will not matter, so nothing is lost either. And If the drop rate is higher, the few destroyed blooms will not matter either – the inflation will level the loss.

Im irked this Q regarding blooms as future currency and access to the rewards in future events was never answered – the event was a cluster kitten

- especially for people like me who had the sanity to walk away from the event the first 24 hours – PRESUMING a day would be tagged on as that would be the decent thing to do….

It was only one weekend and suffered from flaws including the deep encouragement of event tagging and moving on while others did the hard work so you could reap as many blossoms as possible to buy stuff from the NPC. You might be glad to have missed it

It was a flawed event in terms that it unintentionally encourage tag and dash play as players who started and finished the each instances usually ended up with fewer rewards. On top of that the best rewards would require players to play nearly continuously to earn enough event currency.
