Everyone seems to add their 2 cents on what they want for GW2 so here is mine. I would like to see every creature in the bestiary capturable for a Hunter’s Pet.

I also post on guildwars2guru.

I’d like to see the Pet F4 skills interchangeable between the different pets in a family.

Surely adding more pets would be a little redundant? The only difference would be the aesthetic.

If I’m not mistaken, all boons/conditions are covered by the current selection of pets, so unless new boons or conditions there would be a load of overlap between pets.

I guess the only way to mix it up would be for new pets to have different stats. E.g. a new “burn” pet would have different stats to the already existing Salamander Drake, the new one would be less tanky and more offensive, for example.

Using the above idea would be fine for a new collection of pets, but I don’t think it would make sense for every beast in-game to have a charmable version. There would surely be problems if you could equip a huge creature like an Oakheart or Jotun and it would also be strange if you could charm the more intelligent races like grawl, ettin, skritt etc.

I’m seeing no problem with that. Yet everyone wants to talk about mounts.

I got my “if the game doesn’t have it I’ll throw my computer” pet, but I do still love collecting them. I’d love more.

I don’t see anything wrong with more pets but implementation i think should be done differently. Make a base pet for all the current pet families and you can just apply new pets as skins to that base.

The base would have interchangeable f2 skills which you can pick from that family regardless of skin choice so a sylvan hound can have the krytan hound immobilize skill and vice versa. Since the other 4 random skills remain the same in the current system across the pets in one family not much would need to change.

Risen drake with lightning breathe anyone?
ANYTHING other than moa for your source of fury lol?

I’m not sure about “all” of them. I mean, who’d want Asura for a pet?

No.

Whats the point of adding pets if only a select few is useful.

5x Warrior, 5x Ranger, 4x Elementalist, 4x Engineer,
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant

I would like to see more people using the correct term ranger, rather than the WoW equivalent, but that’s just me. lol

On a serious note, while I’d like to see more pets in the game, I don’t see the need for every pet in the bestiary. Seems like a lot of work for one profession out of what is soon to be 9.

Agree, and not just more pets but make more interesting skins for them. Sorry I have to bring it up again but have a look at WoW (best hunter pet system I know of). There should be many different skins, all those pets should be all over the world (none in the cash-shop!!), some very rare ones, some that are extremely hard to tame. So also make the tame-process something more as just ‘press f’, make a more dynamic and interesting tame process.. I think my first time I suggested this was back in the beta forums.

And also give some more control over pets like the ability to send it to a specific location, defend an area or simply let it sit (or else some other default animation that maybe already exists for the beas).

That would be great.

Yes it’s some additional work for just one profession, but why not. True hunters, yes I said hunter because that is what I did mean.. those who like to hunt pets, like that sort of things, that’s why they become hunters. Once you have the system in place it should not be a lot of more work to add a new pets / skins once in a while and it’s not only for them, having a rare animal running around sometimes at some places is also a nice addition for the game-world.

A ranger doesn’t have to be a hunter and in fact, I don’t see a ranger as a hunter. I see a ranger as more like Aragorn in Lord of the Rings. While I have no doubt he could hunt, I sort of feel he has more of an affinity for the natural world. That animals would be more likely to trust him. That he could sort of communicate with them on a primal level.

I don’t think hunting in the sense of firing a bow or rifle at an animal is one that makes one a ranger.

I think a ranger ranges the wild. Like an animal he has a range. You know, home, home on the range.

How come so many topics in this forum that are about adding new things to the game have somebody talk about “no, anet shouldn’t waste resources on things that are purely aesthetical”- whether it is about new legendaries, new ranger pets, new armor, new races, new weapon designs, new anything, that isn’t a new skill, map or function (well, that actually goes without saying.)
This game is soo much about asethetics and style. You can have a norn warrior covered in pink armor with cyber-glasses, two Moots, and you can roll with it.
When I was in a thread about a new race, people said “This won’t add a thing to the game except visuals, no need” – but think about it – a new race brings new lore, new story bits and pieces, new (if only a few) racial skills, a new city and starting area to explore, and, of course, new visuals, but that is not one of the main reasons.

As for pets, there is still a lot of untapped potential. Ogres can tame griffons, which is for whatever reason impossible for smaller than the ogres, yes, even the charr. Though you can buy the Ogre Pet Whiste, which allows you to summon a random Ogre Pet. And if you’re lucky, it’s a Griffon. So no problem there.

Then there are those two Asura from the PS in Orr, and I have no clue who they are and what they do (since I don’t give a chainsaw about Asura) who have a raptor with them that even has a cute little name.

There are so many interesting creatures that wouldn’t be too big for your average ranger, where I don’t see why we wouldn’t be able to tame them.

And heck, make it harder to get certain pets. In Gw1, in order to tame the black Moa, you had to have done a certain Kurzick Quest and then be fast enough to tame it, similar as with the White Moas, who had a low chance of spawning once you exited Sifhalla in EotN. This concept is hard to do since there are no instances in GW2 – except for Dungeons. And a slim chance of encountering a special pet in each dungeon is a nice Idea. Make the RNG on encountering it not too hard, and boom.

Or add pets at the end of dungeons. Add them at the end of JPs. Add them in Certain Parts of the PS/LS Instances. Give us something like the Zaishen Menagerie. That was a calming place, like an adventure Zoo.

There is a lot of ways you can implement pets that don’t just stand there – that actually are kind of challengeing and make the pet something “special”. I kinda feel that way about my reef drake, because I didn’t really like the SSunCove, and had a hard time finding it.
For the Raptors you could for example have an event chain which ends up opening the way to a Raptors nest with lots and lots of raptors and a broodmother, and once you are done with them, you are able to tame the juveniles.

Shrieksy!

First appears in the Statics storyline, or so I’ve been told.

With a little bit of work, it certainly could add something new. What I’d imagine is something that has the activated skills of moas (like the raptors we see in the wild do, although their Dazing Screech is much more potent than ours… the same is true of wild moas), but with the basic attacks of drakes. Possibly replace Tail Sweep with a charge attack as well, and give it stats between drake and feline.

(I have a feeling that raptors were probably held back as potential pets because they were seen as being too close to moas, but moas are so support-oriented it would be easy to see raptors doing something very different in practice.)

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

The whole game is based on farming new skins and buy aesthetics. So why not?
