Pistol makes 0 sense for Warriors..it’s already senseless, why they gave them at all Rifles and Longbows in the first place.. but thats just a game design decision, so that every silly profession in this game is able to have Melee as like also Long Range Attacks, because Anet didn’t wanted to design different classes, where a class is more specialized in melee combat and another maybe more in ranged combat.
They wanted all classes for combat to be as equal as possible, so that the players always can decised to change quickly situational between going more into melee combat, or if needed to stay at range.

Main Hand Shield makes for Warriros alot more sense, not only because its easy for Anet to implement, cause its an already existing Weapon, but also because Shields aren’t something, that can be used only for defense.
You can wield a shield also in an offensive manner to attack with it a foe to deal damage and thats so far sadly something, thats in the combat design of GW2 not really possible to play with a Shield offensively, because so far, Shields in the game cound only like a defensive secondary weapon for more defensive offhand shields and those few skills that are able to deal damage, are totally weak, have slow cooldown times and due to this, shields aren’t viable to use to work on your Shield Master Achievement, as it takes ages to make with Shields the Killing Blow, unless you want to farm for a long time white creates with that Guardian Shield Skill, that can damage up to 5 creatures.
However, all weapons, that have an auto attack are more easier, because you can actively deal damage with them to go alot easier for the killing blow, without having to wait every skill silly 25 seconds, until you can attack with the shield again >.> I don’t have to mention, how ridiculious this is, or ???

So the simplest solution is to remove this idiotic design barrier of makign certain weapons only offhand weapons and make simply all 1H weapons usable with both hands , because it makes simply absolutely zero difference, if I wield a shield, a torch ,a warhorn or a focus atefact with my left or my right hand.

But in regard of game design and especially build diversity it would make up for a great game improvement.
We could have then shields, torches, warhorns and focus artefacts with more genuinely offensive weapon skills and I easily can see somethign like this added via Specializations.

its just one another option for Specializations to add more new Weapon Skills, before Anet would add completely new Weapons, like Great Axes, Polearms, Whips, Claws, Flails and the like which would require of Net to make new animations, alot of new weapon skins and other things for them and thus require more effort to be implemented.

From all Weapons that ANet could give the Warrior, just Torch and Staff make only sense, if Anet doesn’t want to male Staff mele Combat via a seperate more fitting Weapon Category, the so called Quarterstaff, because currently all Staff Skins in this game are Magician Staves which by designed aren’t made for melee combat
Quarterstaves which look alot more like simple poles are alot better balanced for melee combat andwould have completely different combat animations anyways..

But I don’t see Warriors fighting with Quarterstaves.
Thats something that fits for Thieves, as they are basically GW2’s Martial Artists with the Acrobatics Trait Line that would fit perfectly for a Thief Specialization aroudn that with fighting with Quarterstaves in a martial artistical style. (think on Ninja Turtles > Donatello) xD

So my best bet is, Warriors will get with their first Specialization Torches, as its also the Weapon, which naturally symbolifies War/Balthazar as the god of war and fire.
With Torches I think Warriors could get one of the most iconic GW1 Skills back for GW2 ^^ Dragon Slash, so that the Warriors would have with it a melee way to deal Burning. Currently they have burning only for ranged combat when using the Longbow.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

You can pretty much confirm thief rifle and guardian longbow, because their ranged options are pretty terrible.

I think Warrior will get a “Soldier” specialization, giving them pistol off hand, and new trait line dealing with ranged mastery, giving new trait options for rifle as well.

If they are only releasing a few new legendaries, and likely ones that will be alternatives to silly ones, i would thing new pistol instead of quip, new focus instead of minstrel, and new shortbow instead of dreamer. They would definitely include at least one new option for each profession, and warrior likely wont be getting magical weapon like a focus, and if they got shortbow, they would have more ranged options than ranger and that’s not cool.

But sealing the deal is the fact that just like Trehearne wielding a greatsword as a necro since the original launch, RYTLOCK has been using a pistol offhand SINCE LAUNCH. Doubt they are going to move Rytlock over to revenant without at least giving us his original specialization, because he was an awesome warrior.
