Need Advice - Class Suggestion for HoT
You’ve got Mesmer already which seems to fit perfectly with your playstyle and with chrono spec you get a permanent 25% speed boost as one of the traits. They remain super fun to play in PvP and you will love the it even more with chronomaster. I do tend to find it a bit underwhelming in PvE.
Engineer is quite fun as well, although scrapper is all about the hammer so you have to get up close and personal. You still have access to the kits/rifle/pistol if you want to stay ranged but give the hammer a try, I’ve loved it. They are really fun to play both in PvP/PvE, although not as relaxing as playing a Necro or Ranger.
Those are my two favourite profs and I’ve got one of each.
It sounds to me like mesmer is the way to go.
- Plenty of mobility— speed with clones and temporal tricks, portals and blinks — check. If you go Chronomancer, you get alacrity. Whee!
- Escape — torch stealth, veil, and decoy, for sure. If you go Chronomancer with HoT, there’s continuum shifting.
- Balance — mesmer is generally considered stronger in PvP and WvW, but far less so in PvE. That said, mesmer has a lot of utility in many aspects of PvE. Everyone loves to see portals, reflect bubbles, and time warp.
- Playstyle — mostly ranged. GS is primary. Most go sword/torch to pop in and out of melee, but you could go scepter/torch or scepter/pistol for more range.
Whichever you choose, enjoy and have fun!
You sound like that annoying thief that always kills me on Forest of Niflhel… :-)
I agree, chronomancer is going to be amazing, and you’ll probably really enjoy it. Revanent might be a good option, too. With 5 different legends to equip, it does have the potential to get caught in the balance loop that you mentioned, but it’s so new it’s hard to tell at this point. However, shiro sounds like it was designed for you.
Can’t speak for the scrapper since I don’t play engi, but I fought one in a PvP match this weekend. 2v1 and we couldn’t get his health bar even to 75%… In the right hands, the scrapper looks to be deadly.
in fact, we’re going to put the goons to sleep.
Meanwhile – we dig.
Thanks so much folks! This is why I love the GW2 community – always willing to help!
I actually started GW2 as a Mesmer then later deleted her. What a mistake! I got her back to 80 now and she has almost all ascended trinkets and a couple other items.
I didn’t know that the chrono had that movement bonus! This means I’m not forced to use traveler’s runes anymore??!! /goofy dance
I actually did a test on my mesmer against the jungle dragon and she was able to kill him faster than my pew pew ranger. I totally didn’t expect that!
The obvious answer is Revenant. Sword/Sword, Staff includes a targeted port and jump back and charge for mobility, along with perma swiftness in Herald.
Escape is basically the same as mobility, staff can also condi cleanse to get the immob, chill or cripple off.
It has a lot of options for all aspects of play.
It is seriously lacking in range. But it’s a lot of fun up close anyway.

Ooshi, do you by chance have a link to this build for HoT?
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vhAQNArfWlknhy0YjawONwsGLqGFZAUBFXdzOtZLa1NUZHA
That’s just a random build I’ve created to allow you to look at the new chronomaster traits. “Time marches on” – You move 25% faster and movement impairing conditions are 25% shorter duration.
That website should also allow you to have a peak at our new well utilities and new elite skill, be advised that as it is still beta everything there is subject to change.
Have fun.
I’d say Revenant or Daredevil.
Daredevil has access to shortbow and pistols if you want range, plus all the stealth and shadowsteps we all hate thieves for. Not to mention powerful physical abilities and an extra dodge roll.
As for revenant, staff offers a good mix of power and utility, with a little bit of everything. Hammer is a nice ranged weapon to carry around, though a bit slow.
@ Kheo,
I actually looked into the Rev and really didn’t like the class much at all. The Daredevil was interesting but I’m not overly excited about the changes to the thief class. I was one of those that was hoping it would get a rifle.
@ Ooshi,
I see what you’re saying now. Thanks for posting this!
UPDATE:
Thanks so much for suggesting I go for the Mesmer!!!
I ran 2 builds using a PU concept that stacks blinds/reflection with one being a power/crit based and the other going full confusion/condi. Both were freaking amazing with a bit of planning! I actually chased this power ranger around a PvP match doing little more than reflecting/blinding him. Every time I would use my heal spell, the poor guy would try to burn me down. I’m not sure he ever figured out how he kept killing himself.
Again, this has been a ton of fun! In WvW, I had half a zerg chasing me for awhile until I ran into a small roaming group coming the other way. It was a ton of fun going in and out of stealth, using ports, and constantly spamming blinds on everyone!
