[cut]
As part of our guilds recruitment, a majority of our existing members decided to make all matching characters and dress them alike and give them similar names and appearances. We use these toons for random recruitment events, and ultimately would like to use them in WvW at later levels.

Last week we all lined up and sync danced and provided guild buffs and shot off some fireworks and had some little events around us in hopes of recruiting some new members. We don’t want to limit our recruitment to dancing every weekend, and would like to vary it up a bit. What we would like to do, is run some quest chains, so people can see us and because there would be 5 or more of us all dressed alike, we would stand out, which is what we want to do. The problem is everyone is paranoid of getting banned for “botting” or “Shadow Boxing”. Obviously everyone is controlling their own character and moving their own directions and can respond to chat, but to a random person in the world seeing a bunch of people dressed alike, they instantly assume it’s bot’s and will more than likely report us as such. How do we avoid risking uneeded account bans (even temporary ones), or how do you check to determine if it is indeed bot’s or if each person is actually at their computer?

No one wants to get banned for any amount of time, but we want to have fun and do things as a guild on our newly created characters. Please respond, so that I can let our guild know.

Thank you,

I understand that you are querying a specific person however, it appears you question could be viewed as “how can I get around being tagged as a bot”. Not trying to be critical of you or you post and I can certainly understand your concern.

Personally I think that’s a pretty grand idea. Good luck.

Pretty much. Our thoughts are a team or two full of mesmer’s all looking similar in WvW with the ability to pop 3 clones on command would literally dissuade attacks on a tower by simply appearing to be a much stronger force that what it actually is. My guildies & I just don’t want to risk getting banned. It’s a sad day when we can’t even enjoy the game and do what we want to have fun (not breaking any rules) and still have to worry about getting banned.

We did this for a while with Charr warrior character, using the same karma skins and guild tabard for WvW. It was fun. We had one female norn warrior goddess among a bunch of beasts. We got noticed and were able to recruit a number of like minded people. Even now at level 80 a few of us still have those skins and we’ve never had a problem with Anet or anyone else.

My posts are facts as I know them, or my own opinion, and do not represent any guild.

Danke Herr Friedhoefe, We enjoyed our “presentation” if you will as well. We are still paranoid that we’re going to get slapped with a ban though. I’m hoping someone from ANet can actually speak to this, so we know we are safe or not.

Wear expensive armor and midnight dyes. Bot handlers don’t dress their bots up, since the reason to bot is to make gold, not spend it. This should tip off people with a working brain that you aren’t bots.

That’s easy to do at lvl 80, but when you’re level 5’s you have a ton of levels to go where you can be reported.

when i don’t see team appear and disappear at nodes or with funny names but they do act like bots i simply ask them: are you bots?
if they answer i assume they are not.

I doubt you’ll get reported for botting for a dancing as a group of identical characters. During one of the beta weekends, a guild did it as Charr Mesmers, made a video for it, and say they even got a dev to join in.

Enjoy… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPkXrro3HBI

You can always make the characters look really flamboyant
I doubt you have to worry though- generally these days people don’t report people for looking alike but teleporting at nodes.
Great idea btw- sounds like a lot of fun

Thanks Roxy. That video was great!!! I shared that with my guild to hopefully put their minds at ease with it. I really enjoyed the Char and the Lions King music, that was priceless! How many people in your guild did you have participate in it?
