Tengu: These seem to be the easiest to do, and I think they could be interesting and fun.

Skritt: I know there’s problems with them due to lore, but I think that can be written around. For a starting city, you could actually have them crawl out of the fallen area of Divinity’s Reach. Or, if the Tengu come first, make it clear that they’re there too and then use that as a starting place when the time comes.

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

IS there another race that’s small? Besides Skritt, since that apparently has been said no too.

LARGOS. I would so roll a new alt if I could make a Largos.

Tengu will very likely be added imho.

When, or if, willl there will be new races? The only ones i really enjoy are Human and Norn. I just couldn’t get into asura, sylvari, or charr. Ironically, my only 80 is a slyvari.

I would like to see Dwarves return from GW1 lore, but i think i read somewhere they are becoming extinct in lore, so i don’t know.

Which other races would everyone like to see?

Asura genetic engineering could bring the Dwarves back

But the Tengu seems to be the most likely first race added to the game.

My opinion:

The polar bear race “Kodan”. Can be added a great storyline within it’s story background of the race.

The dredge would’ve been nice but since we’re against them mainly in the game.. I guess not so scratch that out.

Tengu – A great playable story with it can be achieved too.

Also if possible, add in a skritt voice and playable race of skritt. Bound to be so fun and learn alot more in the skritt story as you play them.

A serpentine race like the Naga(Krait won’t be playable) would be something I’d like to see, simply because non-humans are far more interesting by default, and with their undulatory locomotion, their armor design would be really unique.

But Tengu seem to be a given.

Things we’re very unlikely to see:

1.) Races whose bodies would make them need unique or extra equipment, and who couldn’t base animations off of the same rigs as the existing races, like Krait and Naga with no legs, Centaurs with extra legs, Ettins with two heads, or Forgotten with no legs and extra arms. Largos, with their need for breathers on land, and the probable incompatibility of their big fluffy fins/wings with most back gear, qualify for the first part as well. Quaggans and Hylek, who don’t really have necks to speak of, would also fit this category.

2.) Races that have qualities that couldn’t easily be made into a Racial Utility Skill, like the Dredge’s permanent immunity to Blindness, a Mursaat’s near-permanent invisibility and intangibility, a Harpy, Mursaat or Seer’s flight, a Centaur’s higher base movement speed, a Skritt’s fluctuating communal intelligence, or an Ogre’s permanent pets.

3.) Races that are currently included in the Order Stories as “lesser” Tribal cultures. Skritt, Quaggans, Ogres, Hylek and Grawl, all of whom are quite a bit less technologically and culturally advanced than the PC races… except Skritt, who don’t reliably understand higher tech.

4.) Races that would push the maximum size scale even bigger than Norn and Charr, like Kodan, Ogres, Ettins and Giants.

5.) Races with difficult to customize appearances. The Kodan are neat and all, but there are only so many things you can do with Polar Bear Person, especially since the couple models with tattoos seem reserved culturally for very high positions.

6.) Races the developers have already stated they considered, then deliberately avoided. So Dwarves (to distinguish themselves from the generic fantasy pack) and Centaurs (because of animation problems).

7.) Races whose very existence is a big secret, which having hundreds of them running around as PCs would spoil. Seers and Mursaat obviously, but also the Largos. Also races who have potential access to story-breaking secrets, so pretty much everyone who was around for the last Elder Dragon Uprising – Seers, Mursaat, Forgotten, Jotun and Dwarves.

8.) Race’s homeland is underwater. It would be interesting, but unpopular enough that I really doubt ANet would do it. Quaggans, Krait and Largos.

This leaves Tengu, and only Tengu, as the sentient race positioned for easy transition to PC status. I’m not saying any of the above is impossible, but I am saying that they offer challenges that make them more difficult to implement.

Former Guild Wars 2 fan. RIP, ArenaNet’s integrity.

Well if there’s no Skritt then i’m not overly interested in much else, if i can make a dwarf similar sized to a Asura then i’m all for Dwarves getting a look in..

1. Tengu. I love their Asian-influenced culture and the fact that they are an “honorable” race. They almost certainly will be the next playable race, and I’ve already got plans for a Tengu Thief.

2. Skritt. Sadly I doubt we’ll ever see the Skritt as a playable race due to their unique communal intelligence, but I can always dream about a Skritt Engineer who just runs around hurling junk at big nasties. XD

3. Krait/Naga. I’ve always been a big fan of serpents and serpentoids, and to my knowledge no RPG has ever allowed you to play a serpentoid before. (Reptilian humanoids, yes, but no serpents.) Models already exist in the Krait, and the Krait Witch shows that male and female serpentoids look visually distinct enough from each other for them to be viable player characters.

Tengu and Largos seem most likely because they could easily accomodate most armor currently in the game.

What race do I want?
Largos.
I just think that they look awesome and it’d be interesting to have an entire city underwater.
I also want to learn more about them.
I might even re-make my lv80 Thief as a Largos for it.

What do I think is coming out?
Tengu due to the fact that they already have a city and talk about having trouble with the Destroyers.
Later Largos, who have trouble with the Deep Sea Dragon.

Popular races that probably won’t be playable:
Skritt.
They aren’t intelligent enough to embark on a quest to slay a dragon alone and actually succeed.
It’s too much against the lore and they are considered a lesser race.

Quaggans.
They are mostly pacifists and their body shape means that all armor would need heavy modification.
In addition many skills would be a huge pain to animate properly.

They do have warriors, but the Quaggans are considered a lesser race.
The Personal Story parts for aiding lesser races would need some weird modification.

Hylek.
They, too, are considered a lesser race.
They are tribal and don’t seem to have quite enough organization.
With that said I don’t consider it a completely outlandish idea unlike Skritt and Quaggans.

Third place goes to the Largos, who would be troublesome because they have to wear breathers on land, and because those big floaty manta wings would be kind of obnoxious a lot of the time.

I don’t remember a Largos ever explicitly stating that they need the masks for breathing on land.
They wear the masks underwater as well, so they might actually lack gills.

For all we know they might have air pockets inside their buildings and constantly wear masks underwater.
Real-life example: Frogs, dolphins and diving bell spiders can’t breathe underwater, either.

Largos, Tengu and Kodan have the best chance. All have been talk about for and against for months, I have not seen anyone bring up anything new about them.

I think Largos just wear the masks to look cool. It’s a fantasy RPG game, and we don’t need air breathers. (Actually, we don’t. You could remove your mask underwater!)

ANET probably wanted to design a bunch of different underwater helmets, but didn’t have time to make them widely available. So they they just threw them on a future underwater race in the meantime.

I always liked CoH extra 2 classes, which you could only get once you had a full level character. They were never Overpowered in fact they were probably the worst class out there. But it gave someone something to challenge themselves with after they hit max level.

I would love to see something like this added, with the races being something like Krait. So what if your starting area was underwater, all your racials helped more underwater and your hit box was screwy for jumping puzzles. You already have a level 80 that is fine for normal content.

I want Skritt. but have your character act as 3 skritt that all work together as a team, rather than 1, and share the same hit box. That would not be confusing at all..

Hylek won’t be playable, in the collectors edition book it was stated that if they ever need a lesser race in despair, Hylek were made to fill that gap.

Tengu are a given and a must considering their past presence in lore and everything already have been set up, plus they were originally going to be included but the team settled on five being enough races.

Only playable races I think they are going to add…Tengu for sure, this has been hinted at again and again. We know that Primoudeous (spelling?) has reached inside the walls of the Dominion of Wind, so the Tengu have a connection to wanting to fight a Dragon.

The Largos have also stated that Unknown Horrors have driven them from their home, AKA Bubbles. Another race with a reason to go join our Dragon Killing Pact.

An expansion focused around the Largos would also give us the content addition to Underwater Content

Devona’s Rest – [Tsuk]
Ajini – Thief – Commander

The underwater content was one of the main reasons why the game got held up, I think the largos were made to be a future playable race to highlight the underwater world they want to make. So the Largos were made close to the end of development is my guess.
