I keep hearing the argument " it doesnt fit the class blah blah blah" , then please, tell me how you can imagine Gandalf running at the orks with two daggers, yet we all accept it, because Anet had it there from the beginning.
Tell me how a mage that works with mirages and lies can use a pistol to shoot magical beans, how does that “fit” the character?
How a knight in shinning armor has blue fire and bats a scepter like a magic wand and shoots little blue balls that hit hard?
see my point? MAGIC, this game doesnt need to “fit”, specially elementalist who are the MOST MAGICAL CLASS IN THE GAME, they can do whatever they want, we already wield a [bad] ultimate which is a RANGED GREATSWORD, dont tell me ranged GS doesnt fit ele………
also, who cares so many classes already have GS, for all I care everyone should be able to use whatever the heck they want, without having to deal with people who want to feel unique. I love eles, I love GS and staves, why cant I have it all, specially since the only counterargument is; “but i wanna feel special!!!!”
There’s a lot more cooler weapons that could be introduced for Elementalist’s playstyle, for concept or for lore. Besides, you yourself have acknowledged Ele has a greatsword elite so no real point in making another version unless it will be a complete diversion from the elite (i.e. a non-offensive support weapon).
You bring up Gandalf but he didn’t use a giant sword, he used a one-handed sword. This would support the need for a sword main-hand weapon. A dueling/defensive weapon to trick/trap enemies with elemental forces while unleashing harsh close-ranged damage.
Torch has heat/fire on it. Logically, the class that handles fire should be able to use and morph the flame on a torch better than anyone. Using flame and heat to fuse into the elements of water to create steam, rock to create sulfur and gas and air/lightning as a catalyst is a lot more original.
Ever heard of Stormcaller, the horn that can call rain and winds when blown? Using a warhorn to literally call localized storms like fog banks, hurricanes or shake the earth with a loud call.
For a Greatsword…the rational never centers around what a greatsword would do for an Elementalist, just that it has the weapon skins some people want which is hardly a proper reason to put the effort into making 20 skills for elementalists.
Also, if anyone thinks that a Greatsword should be ranged, they should be smacked. Ranged Greatsword makes nearly no sense and only works for Mesmer because they’re just weird (and alter time and space so whatever) and for Ele elite, it’s a conjured mass of fire magic, not a greatsword.
If you want more ranged weapons on an Elementalist, bows come first for logical reason. Guns after that and then axe and dagger.
Try and have some originality, people. I bet you’d like GS to also have high damage too? I thought so.
