Why is my game patching? I played 2 days ago and can’t find patch notes for March, it looks like the patch is somewhere between 2 to 3 gigs? ._.

Aha I remember wanting to hear my Asura in French, so that’s why its doing this thank you, was worried I was getting some rinky dink patch that wasn’t suppose to be out yet.

Are these QA testers new hires, or were they there nearly three years ago when the game got released with a broken camera?

Leaked info, jewel crafting to 500. It has something to do with the new precursors, and are getting it in place early. They didn’t want a massive market shift so its been kept hush hush.

Also, SAB is 100% back after last year revolt against it being removed.

Actually, I used to live here, and for me “armour” really does have two “u’s.” I have to consciously remove the second “u” in all sorts of words. (One of the founders of ArenaNet gently told me we needed to go with “armor” back when I first started writing website content.)

I didn’t book time off work specially, but it just so happens that I’m off all this week (thanks to an idiot driver who pulled out on me, knocked me flying and didn’t bother to stop). I was really looking forward to getting some of the previously impossible jumping puzzles and other things made nigh on impossible by the broken camera done to alleviate the boredom of being partially housebound.

As an IT professional, I always get a kick out of this question.
The answer is always “It’ll be ready when it is ready”.
It’s not baking where you put it in the over for exactly 30 minutes and it comes out golden :P

You can bet the people working on it have given time frames to their supervisors. No successful business uses “It’ll be ready when it is ready” internally.

Any professional, however, has a rough estimate for how long something will take unless they are fresh out of school with no experience.

There is a big difference between internal due dates and promise dates. The former has a tendency to be wrong, and the latter needs to always be right.

This is quite amusing, anyone that knows how A.net works would understand this with their process of iteration after iteration, they are constantly making changes and testing things right up until the very end…so a delay like this though not normal is something everyone should be expecting at any time.

I expect it, but I can still be disappointed. It is like when a toddler knocks over a glass or water – you don’t want it to happen, but you know it probably will.

It amazes me how many people here are “disappointed” that we didn’t get the patch/update today. If I’m correct, I think this is the first time A-Net has ever had to push back a patch so close to it going live. This includes during all of GW. So that’s once in the last 11 years that an update/patch has been postponed.

You are most definitely wrong, I remember it happening a few times. Sure it doesn’t happen often, but it does happen occasionally.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Valve just recently did an interview in which they openly addressed the fact that they have been far too silent with their fans instead of being more transparent and they want to remedy that.

Now, I wouldn’t go so far as to say I believe any action will come from the words, but if they prove me wrong, they could end up proving us both wrong. Maybe they’re developing HL3 for their new VR. They did say the reason no news was announced for HL3 was because the technology wasn’t where it needed to be yet for them to do what they wanted to do.

It actually doesn’t matter that much. It was just an innocent question due to idle curiosity. What obviously does matter, is that you that I think that I think doesn’t matter, so let it be that…

Going forward this pattern is likely to continue until the expansion is released. Do not expect much in content and do not expect it on a regular basis until that point in time.

If you ask me, an update patch like that would be best served if bundled into another feature patch.

Patch is late? And what’s so important in it to be late?

This game is ridiculously unbalanced & empty. I don’t think it would survive without mega server, which made it barely playable with other people.

What a negativity…. I have faith in the Anet team in what they do! I prefer a patch that is tested enough to avoid bugs and is late instead of an early patch with a lot of errors. Im playing gw2 since release and i love playing the game. We aren’t going to die if we have a late patch…. Theres enough to do in-game and in real life.

I would like to help the Anet team too with their beta-tests ( which will be given to a limited amount of ppl.) I’m born deaf but i had 2 operations at my right ear and i wear a hearing aid (i can hear yes). I can help them with the in-game sound of the beta because i can adjust my hearing aid sound with a lot of options!

@Gaile: do you have an update about the patch for us?

I’m pretty sure the extra day made it already ready (or at last tomorrow), their planning can’t have been more off I think, cause this is first time they delay a well known to be released patch, as far as I know.

I think the bigger problem is, (for wathever reason), they are addicted to releasing the patch on Tuesday, wich will make it 1-2 weeks delayed, but delivered on that day.

Anet rarely delays patches (I think this is like the third time in the company’s history), so I’m quite content with giving them the benefit of the doubt.

They say they need more QA time, that’s fine. I believe this has to do with the new streaming feature, which can be rather icky if it doesn’t work right the first time.

As an IT professional I love last minute bugs that pop up out of nowhere! It is seriously the BEST part of the profession! Cause then the clients get all grumpy, and kitteny, and start demanding new date for release, what will it take to fix the bug? Can we release stuff that are not the bug? Well too tell the truth, we can release everything around the bug! It is no problem! You know, we just wont move the bug over. Why didn’t we think of that???

I give kudo’s to ANET for at least keeping us all informed on the state of the game update. I was SUPER looking forward to this, but I completely understand wanting to release a complete update rather than half kitten it.

These situations are just as bad if not worse for the developers. They DO NOT WANT to miss a release date.
