No Dungeons = No Money ?
What server are you on for WvW?
Do not go it alone, stick with a group, and aim to survive. I’ve made plenty of cash in WvW. If you stick with a group and capture points, you will gain rewards. You have absolutely no reason to go alone. Best way is look for a commander icon, or ask in /m where help is needed, and just follow the largest group.
Did you not read all the forums telling you to roll a thief , Played my 80 exotic ranger today for 45 mins in wvw never again no risk/reward all risk / gold sink . Back to my thief he makes some good coin in wvw as I go days without dieing even being the last man standing in a lord fight on d and I can still get out. 100% wvw , take that away from my thief and I’m gone
I’ve never WvW without scoring a profit, except when buying siege. So concentrate on playing well and having fun.
In terms of making some gold, clear out some of your collectibles and put em on the trading post. If you fought your way to 80 (either pve or wvw), you’re sittin on a pile of wealth.
Dungeons are not actually a great way to make gold. It’s ok, but no better than wvw.
I like to keep a character or two parked at the world dragon events, and then log over to them at the appropriate times. 6-item chest, even if they’re blues n greens will have you come away with a dozen silver.
errrrmmmm Fight better in WVW I make plenty of silver in WVW to repair my gear and i often come out of it with a profet. not a huge on but one none the less
You don’t necessarily have to leave WvW to make money, but if you go into PvE you don’t have to spend that time in dungeons to make a buck (though it can be rather efficient in terms of coin/loot you can get for your time). A good explore mode dungeon group (or any group for that matter) can be a little tough to find with lots of folks being all for the fractals lately… Plenty of world map stuff to get you coin (heart quests, DEs, farming ore/wood, etc).
Playing well will hopefully come. Standing away from action so you don’t die isn’t fun.
A dozen silver from a chest ? That will pay for 2 deaths so not exactly a mother lode of wealth.
I had some cash when I hit 80…..I guess a “pile of wealth” is subjective. I did upgrade equipment though when I hit 80 but have no reason to PvE. At best I break even in WvW so I guess I am doing it wrong.
He is a new level 80. He prolly got mostly greens and maybe some rare.
Meaning he prolly get 2 shotted by thief or other glass cannon. The early stage in WvW is hard if you didn’t gear up prior to 80.
When I’m out of money I just go to Orr and do some dynamic event. You should be able to make money, buy gear and be more efficient in WvW.
Don’t forget to loot bag in WvW too.

Hilarious how many people say they made money at WvW.
Well good for you. You are another pointless WvW player who never bought an upgrade in his life then. Without upgrades you lose WvW. The tiny number of us who pay for 100% of every upgrade ourselves (thanks for failing Anet) are permenently BROKE because of WvW.
Thats why lots of people have quit WvW.
And OP- yes if you wanna make money you have to do dungeons and fractals. Also if you wanna get the best gear YOU HAVE TO do fractals.

Exploring maps and doing world PvE is probably the most reliable way to get money. Following a good zerg in Wv3 will get you a good amount of coin, you need to find out when the zergs run on your server. This means playing more Wv3 to get to know your server peak times. Dungeons can net you coin, but it really depends on how well your group is working. It will be a profit vs. wipes, so it there is a lot of uncertainty going that route; not to mention the time it takes to find a group.
I really wouldn’t worry about it too much. Just keep staying active and enough coins will be there to cover repair bills at least. Eventually, you will make enough karma to improve your gear and money will begin to flow a little quicker in your direction.
edit: if you want to make a gold or two in a day, you can get to 100% on a high-end map. The 75-80 lvl zones seem to be giving two exotics lately. Sell those on the TP and you should get a little bank to keep you going.

Or you know, you work with a WvW centric guild that has a pool of funds dedicated to upgrades? No one person should pay for an upgrade on their own…
Malchors Leap is is 75-80 zone. Dunno how to get there though

Keep heading south from Lion’s Arch until you reach the Straits of Devastation, then head west.
Borlis Pass
I see it and I am right beside it in the Theatre of Delight zone. Don’t see the way in and hard to explore to find a way when there are a million mobs in the way.
New to the game. Just hit level 80. Probably half the levels were from WvW
Bought some new equipment a couple of days ago. Died a few times today in WvW and realized I have enough cash for 8 more repairs only. So apparently I need to do dungeons or something to be able to WvW ? …even though I am not interested in doing dungeons or waiting in line to join some random pug only to get wiped over and over ?
How else to make cash ?
(and yes, I die often because A: new player B: Ranger )
Best thing you can do IMO is to go to Cursed Shore and do the dynamic events. The Pent/Shelt and Plinx events are pretty descent just make sure you group up, which is very easy being players are always looking to group up. Most nights I do this while waiting for friends or guildies to come on for either wv3 or dungeons and make at least 1g in less than an hour, some nights I get very lucky and make significantly more, its crazy how all that junk in your bag adds up to some good cash!
As a ranger, my favorite strategy to pown a warrior:
1. Take a longbow (even lvl 3, doesn’t need to have stats).
2. Run until you find a cliff.
3. Place the warrior close to the cliff and press skill 4. Enjoy!
Another one:
1. In the WvW jumping puzzle, choose a jump place.
2. Put a trap on the extremity of this place.
3. Wait for an ennemy to come. He’ll come on this place, make a step back to calculate his jump, begin to run, activate the trap, jump… and die from his fall! (if you choose your spot carefully, you’ll never stop laughing xP)

This is a good way, but one problem is everyone is doing it. Even in a group, mobs die before they can be attacked practically. So it takes timing with skills to get the first hit. I’m a ranger and use traps to help tag the most. I even got my first exotic drop there last night.
If you need gold, do events in Orr, not dungeons.
I’ve only run 2 early dungeons since the betas (CM & Ascalon). Not my thing. But I manage to keep 5-10 Gold split between 8 characters by harvesting everything I run across then selling mats I either don’t need or are bringing a good price on the trading post. And by selling loot. Mostly by selling loot thru vendors or the TP.
Not getting rich, but I am maintaining.

Or, you know, some of us are financially responsible people who don’t spend money unless I have a reasonable amount so that I won’t go broke. If you’re so broke you can’t repair your armor, then I suggest you lay off buying upgrades/siege weapons for a while.
Or you know, you work with a WvW centric guild that has a pool of funds dedicated to upgrades? No one person should pay for an upgrade on their own…
Upgrades should be free and automatic.
Lordrosicky.5813 said it. All of the ppl who love wvw , end up broke.

I have well over 12 gold…. and I play WvW almost exclusively…
The only people who should be doing upgrades on towers and keeps should be the guilds claiming them. Individual players should not really be breaking their bank for an upgrade.
Done WvW with both my necro and my elementalist (very squishy), both have exotic gear and yet still what I earn is more than what I spend repairing. And I do die a lot. Do not buy equipment or upgrades if you have no money to spare and you should be going to the + side of your wallet.
No grind (any type) = no money.
GW2 is a “money makes the world go round” game. GW2 is a grinding game…an ingenius one that hides it well…atleast at the start. Then u realize they lied to us when they said “no grinding” in gw2.
No gem shop, no money, since they nerfed drop rates across the board apart from FotM.
~ nothing is constant but change~
Currently: 3619 kills ~ all for Piken Square
WvW does require gear for you to be efficient. Spvp is where there is no grind and unfortunately you don’t make any money there. So I would recommend buying some karma gear from the WvW vendors, I believe they go up to rare. That alone will give you a ton more survival since I’m assuming you’re still in greens or worse.
ANet has nerfed every farm the public has found even though they deny being against farming, which is hilarious at best so enjoy the slow grind, what this game is all about.

This pretty much sums it up.
We (Me) would prefer real “content” than the druggery of a grind.
I don’t get it. You said you die alot in WvW, and you ran out of money for repairs, and you think the only way to get gold is doing dungeons for WvW?
You do not have to do dungeons for WvW. There are many places to earn gold, not just in dungeons. Take a break from WvW and play the PVE game. Do events in Tyria, do map completions. Just running around killing things for map completions, you can cash in all the vendor trash loot to get some coin. Completing events gives some coin.

This bears repeating. WvW is a large gold sink – mitigated only by the fact that large WvW guilds pool their gold for the greater good. Whether a players pays for it completely out of their own pockets or not isn’t the point.
Also, sometimes no one buys upgrades. Every WvW player has been there. You pay for the upgrade or it simply doesn’t happen – even the cheap ones like Dolyak supply. Players like Lordrosicky should be encouraged, and not told to “find a WvW guild”.
Playing well will hopefully come. Standing away from action so you don’t die isn’t fun.

What?
I have near full exotics, and it’d take everything broken to cost me 12 silver to repair.

No ones telling him to find a guild, but not to take it upon himself. The upgrade system wasn’t designed for a single person to upgrade.
Alot of guilds take it upon themselves to take care of it, and if they don’t upgrade, there is usually a reason (ie. hotly contested tower that will change hands often, why would you waste resources to lose it 15 minutes later)
After buying absolutely everything for my character I ever wanted I honestly have trouble figuring out what to do with gold. I farmed undead mission in Orr for 7 days few hours a day. I earned about 2.5g per hour. So I think that’s a good way to make money. I love dungeons but never considered good money source, they’re fun but not whole lot profitable. Also the other way to make money is to resell at AH.
Another possibility is investing in Magic Find gear, and farming certain event areas. Great cash hob lift between 10-25 g a day. Should keep you going.
Totally depends what drops ofcourse but with current TP Prices, its a bless.
Was pretty skeptical about MF at first…

Didn’t read the therad but if you’re a new 80 just go 100% the 70-80 Norn zone with the hearts. It’ll take you like two hours tops. Buy a few onnomberry bars and burn through it. No risk of dying unless you’re an awful player. Will net you about 1 gold in cash total, a bunch of drops, and two level 78 exotics. Probably a total of about 4g by the time you sell everything. Will give you a decent cushion to start with.
Spend an hourish every few days running through a 70+ level.
Also if you’re not crafting, empty out your collectables bank and sell everything in it (try the auction house first, and vender the rest). I bet you have 3 -10 gold worth of stuff in there.
failure is still a monumental success, assuming
losses remain within acceptable parameters.
