Lol. It matters not what ArenaNet does…it will be wrong.
Forum isn’t a singular entity. Lots of players means lots of differing opinions. Also, in this instance it is a case of a changing context. Recycling of content, to me at least, can be very fine if the content is good and enjoyable, particularly in the pre-expansion period. We know a lot of new content is on the way, so a good few are happy to accept a rerun of older content as a means to have something a little different to do other than the more static Tyria we have in the said pre-expansion lull. That isn’t to say people would be happy with recycled content at the expense of new content, as is the usual complaint with things like the holidays and such. Here a fair number see it as an easy way to give a little distraction while the expansion is finished being made.

Anet did not all of sudden decide to make an expansion just because some people complain. That’s really not how this stuff works.
If anything the reason they are switching to an expac is probably because NCSoft needed an increase in revenue for stocks.
Excuse me, but they say otherwise and have said so in various interviews. That’s exactly how it worked.

it became clear players wanted an expansion doesnt mean they decided based on the forums, they have always said they dont make decisions based solely on forums.
Also, in his speech he doesnt talk about expansions replacing living world, but rather them existing side by side.

Call me impatient or whatever, but I’m SO over waiting for the expansion now. I mean, when most games announce something so big, usually they have a price and a release date which follows the announcement, and with most new legendaries for HoT not even being in the beginning stages of conception, worries me a lot.
That’s why today I decided to use up all my tomes of knowledge on my re-rolled engineer, because I have a feeling I’ll be able to get a whole bunch more before HoT is ready, let alone has a release date.

CureForLiving summed it up. People demanded a “real” expansion and they will get it.
I am eagerly waiting to see if this “real expansion” is as big as a traditional expansion. For now i see a new class but no new race. New specializations which is ok. “End game content” which is iffy….and no news about how many maps&dungeons we get which is the backbone of any expansion….and so far they religiously avoided the answer for this. If we get just 1 map kitten that.
Well we kind of have some sort of idea when it comes to the map. Apparently there are 3 layers to the “map” or area. So even if it is one large area, we will have 3 large “maps” at the least.
To me it sounds like it is going to be as large as standard expansions, do we know how much it will be? Lets not forget that we also do not have to pay a sub fee on top of it. I have a feeling it will have just as much content as the expansions we got from games like WoW.

I have enough stuff to level the Revenant to 80, the mats necessary to instantly gear it in full ascended of any stat but Zealot, and I’m amassing spare Tomes to instantly max mastery points as I unlock them, while waiting.
At this rate, I’ll probably be able to max out the character within hours of the expack’s release, as will many, many others.

Its got a slew of cool stuff for sure but its becoming more and more unlikely that we’ll get any new instanced content we can play with our friends. Just more open world play-by-yourself-in-a-crowd, laggy, zergy, blah. But hey we can keep playing AC with new specializations… yay!
Its not one or the other either. Other games manage to add new complex zones with events while also adding new instanced content as well.
I just want more pvp maps. I haven’t even played it much and already the same maps get boring.
I’d personally perfer to have no content for a few months and get the expansion faster than slow down HoT production for a few extra living story fillers
And also it gives me a chance and opportunity to get things done I’ve been meaning to but haven’t gotten around to in the past because of the aggressive content schedule.

Given the huge backlash that they got in WvW for adding Ascended gear, you can imagine what happens if they add that….
I’m sorry, I didn’t realize I was talking to someone who believes marketing speak.
I’m going to just say ‘pass’ on this.
I’m noticing a trend that when you bring actual evidence to the table, the naysayers always offer their opinion and snotty comments instead, rather than counter proof, and say not to believe our lying ears or eyes.
Excuse me. Are you, or are you not, getting an expansion because of the nonstop demands of those vocal players here and elsewhere? Have content updates pretty much stopped because of it? Did you miss the point of this thread?

You are honestly probably not the majority. Im not saying there arent alot of you who will do that. But there are many many more who do not, or will not do that. I know i wont be. Why? i just dont have the tomes to level my characters nor will i by the time HOT gets released. I still have stuff to do in the base game, even after 3000 hours played. Get all my characters stories done, both living world and PS. Get all mapping done, get all the PVE achievements, get all the dungeon achievements.
I have no clue how people have nothing to do, but if you want to rush through any content they add to the game that is your choice, and while there is nothing wrong with it, it just doesnt seem as fun to me!
The pvp community reminds me of what Obi-kittenenobi describes Mos Eisley as from star wars.

Difference is, im doing it at my own pace when i want to do the content. Hes going to use scrolls insta level his character, do the entire HOT and all the masteries as soon as they are available, and then have..nothing to do, and then probably(Most people who do this do the following)blame ANET for not adding enough content… Meanwhile, Ill still be doing that content probably weeks or months after hes done, not rushing through it, getting the masteries as i get them, as i want to get them.
Now theres nothing wrong with his way of playing, if thats how he wants to do it then so be it!

Now the same “reasoning” returns. “The LS team is working on LS for after the expansion”. Hah! The LS team is probably in crunch mode together with the rest of ArenaNet trying to adapt Season 3 in an expansion.
