Personally, I’m a fan of housing. Mounts, I haven’t put much though into but I’m not going to say they can’t do it in a new, interesting and overall ‘good’ way.

The waypoint system works, more or less. Maybe when this plotline with Mordy’s done, they’ll stop wrecking them. Otherwise, mounts are merely aesthetic and quality-of-life. =P

Side note: Broom + Asura = Fun. I think I saw a Charr surfing on one, which was adorable.

As for housing, it’d be nice to have a spot of my own with a tree garden (in case I gem-buy it), and a rock garden for my candy corn and assorted mining nodes (in case I buy those), and a spot where my warband can hang out.

So long as it’s not like FF14’s real estate system. Yeesh. o_O 1.5 million monies to buy it, and you still pay rent. It’d be better to have some kind of gold-buy for certain home-instance conveniences like a vendor, repair shop, Asura gate.
How’s that for a gold sink?

Many alts; handle it!

Yeah, I definitely wouldn’t want mounts to replace WPs.

For housing, I’d hope they don’t go the rent route. After all, that wouldn’t be too far from adding a sub to the game as far as feeling like you can’t take a break when you want.

I have an idea of how I’d want housing to work.

Set up the custom home point
Provide services that have to be activated:

Vendors – Probably just the basic kit/tool vendor would be enough
Crafting stations
Black Lion Trading Company
Bank
Mystic Forge
Repair
Asura Gate

But none of them would be permanent. You buy time with in-game gold for the convenience.

Of course, the big question would be where to put it.

Many alts; handle it!

lol.. here’s the thing. You may not realize it, but you are the one repeating yourself.

You limit your discussion to saying " it would be cool, it would be fun… I want it."

it would be cool… for you
it would be fun for you
you want it. for you

None of the above are compelling reasons for their inclusion in game. There are valid reason that those of us not wanting mounts, do not want mounts.

We do not want this game we enjoy playing to have mounts imposed on us. We do not want to see mounts, we do not want to see the crappy culling that comes with mounts, we do not want to see the lousy combinations that come with mounts ( the charr riding a poor bunny-wabbit * squish*) we do not want server lag that would result from it, we do not want the frame rate drop offs. etc etc etc etc etc….

All you’re side does is disregard what are valid arguments and say over and over and over..( hence why I say that you are repeating yourself.) " But I want it!"

You say :

Repetition is the last refuge of the person that has run out of ideas.

You might wish to rethink that.

@ Nerelith.7360:
Are we still talking here with a real person, or are we talking again with your robot version of you in repetition mode?
Please, for gods sake, finally stop with your distraction nonsense, only because you have no arguments anymore and can hide yourself only behind your childish status quo that you keep on repeating nonstop!

Natsu and Rauderi have very good and valid points which are on the same level of argumentation, like you keep on doing it all the time.

We have delivered you already tons of reasons and arguments, for WHY ANet should implement Mounts , what kinds of benefits they could bring to Anet, the players and in general the game, but all what you do is only belittling all these arguments and reasons down, so that you have it easier to pidgeon-hole all of them into your 3- way scenario that you come up with permanently.

The examples of Natsu and Rauderi clearly show you, that we can also play your “We belittle down every argument of the opposition into pidgeon-holed wordings of your opinions and reduce them to nonfitting statements-game that can’t be taken seriously at all.

Are you still living in your personal dream world thats saying that a dev statement from 2 years ago that counted for the momentum of “at game release” counts for you personally as “forever”?
Thats at least the impression one could get from you, when you read your nonsense about, that if our reasons would be compelling, that we would have mounts by now

WoW, what an argument!
The time it takes to implement something absolutely has nothing to mean about it, if a reason for implemention is compelling or not.
An argument for an implemention can be totally compelling and the result of that reason could still end up being implemented first in like 3+ years later.
Only because something is compelling and a developer agrees maybe to it, that its so compelling, that they want to implement it doesn’t automatically mean, that on that project has to be worked on instantly to get the thing in demand implemented ASAP – or riot!

The implementation of projects like mounts could be at any time also be DELAYED out of various reasons and get at any time later implemented, when nobody basically thinks about it finding its way into the game as a backburner project that was maybe for a real long time in the backpipe unmentioned secretly due to delays, or other technical proplems maybe that occured, which had to be solved first in order to progress with their implementation.
This is exactly what happened basically with precursor crafting.

Now do I repeat myself – for a one last time – Colin Johansson self said last year.
If they ever will implement Mounts, then they don’t want to give this game a feature, that are standard mounts, like we know them from alot older games.
They want them to be special – something that makes them in their eyes unique for GW2 and innovative.
Giving the game something, that hasn’t been there before in the way how that feature works, whats also a reason, why Colin didn’t rule out mounted combat as one of many possibilities, how they could try it, saying by his own opinion – THAT IT WOULD BE COOL

Naturally you could say now, that this was typical PR speech, but it was his own words and when a developer – and we speak here not about any normal developer, we speak here about one of GW2’s lead developers!, uses the same style of argumentation that you and your group of mount haters despise so much, then what the frigging hell should still be compelling at all, if not “its cool”, which is a full legitimate compelling reason to implement something new into the game.
As long this is compelling enough for the developer to implement something to make their game “cooler, than it was before” with it, then nobody cares anymore about the pointless “why”.

Because the answer is so simple as the question then – because the developers find this feature cool to have for their game. They don’t need any more reasons basically to add anything. Its their game and they decide, what gets added to it in the main place.

If the developers should ever go so far to say, they find the feature of mounts so cool and intriguing enough to make up for the try to implement them in a new innovative way so that they think it would be an enrichment for this game – then thats all what is needed for their decision making.
On top of that making additionally also money with that new feature is just a nice icing for them, when that feature gets so well implemented, that it will sell itself in the gem store like hot cakes and buying mount skins would be in the end the same thing, like buying weapon/armor skins.

If you repeat yourself now one more time with your same posting, then I guess its time again for Gummy to smack you one left and one right to smash the stubbornness out of you again :P (however he successfully did that xD)

There are no compelling arguments coming from your side as to why, we need to have mounts.

You seem to give a Lot of detail, as to HOW it should be omplemented. But None as to WHY it should be implemented.

You lable my posts a distraction, when in fact I am trying to keep YOU focused.

See You, and rauderi are simply trying to distract from the fact that you have NO compelling arguments as to WHY….. Gw2 would benefit from mounts, other than

1. it would be cool
2. I want it.
3. why not?

None of those arguments are compelling arguments for " why we need mounts?"

Say what you wish. You can repeat over and over." we gave compelling arguments " except if you had….. we would already have mounts.

After two years of the same tired repeated." But it would be cool…. I want it" we still have no mounts.

Think about it.

Here’s a good thought experiment. Ask yourself." why hasn’t Anet given us mounts yet? If our arguments are so compelling… if we have answered why?" " why hasn’t anet given us mounts?"

I’d Like to see what reasons you guys come up with.

Gummy provided a plan, that not only took into account the develoeprs balance issues… ( no speed boost), and also addressed those not wishing for mounts..( we do not wish to see them) …by allocating an optional zone… one no one else needs to ever visit, unless they wish to partake of mount combat.

Mount combat is what the developer said " would be so cool."

he also said there would not be Mounts as people thought of mounts, for speed boost.

Here’s the thing. You guys seem to wish to hang your hats On an 18 month old video.

In 18 months if " it would be cool" were a compelling reason, don’t you think we would see mounts In game?

if anything it proves that

1. it would be cool.

is NOT compelling. Think about it. One of the developers thinks it would be cool….. and….. 18 months later…..

it’s NOT in the game.

Know what that tells me? Even with one of the developers thinking that “Mounted Combat” would be cool… it’s Not enough to get it in the game.

BTW he did address speed boost, and said it is Not what he sees as being a part of what mounts would be about.

So the very video you refer to, argues against you.

Something to think about.

Lastly: Ad hominem attacks do not score you any points, they just show ythat you lack confidence in your arguments. Or in this case…LACK of arguments.

You try to distract from the fact that you never answered the question? Why is it you don’t answer it? Why try to distract from it?

18 months from the day that Colin said " it would be so cool" to havemounted combat, we still have no mounted combat. Also remember In that very video Colin addressed speed boost. he said that that was not part of what they were thinking about for mounts In the game.

So… 18 months after Colin mentioned How cool mounted combat would be, where he says speed boost won’t be part of mounts, and we still do not have mounts.

why?

Because it takes time and is nothing, that just gets ASAP easily implemented?
Because Anet maybe just waits for the right time and moment, eventually linked together with the Living Story to implement them
Because Anet waits, if not with the Living Story for the right Feature Pack to implement them.
Because NCSoft maybe says them, that Moutns should be kept back as one big feature, that should be hold back for the first real Expansion that might come perhaps 2015
Because technological problems could have lead to a massive time delay to implement Mounts sooner, like various problems stopped precursor crafting to get implemented 2013, liek it was basically planned.

sheesh.
The reasons for why something doesn’t get as fast implemented, as someone might wish are so obvious as like diverse ranging from simple reasons to more complex ones that nobody of us can have any clues about, because Anet doesn’t just tell us about these things – what leaves us all again at the point, that we all can just only speculate about it, why something hasn’t been implemented yet.

The game also hasn’t yet implemented announced features, like Polymok, Bar Brawls and Shooting Range as like many other minigames, where I can ask myself also just only “why” and these things should also have been in this game from begin on 2 years ago …

Do I question in now, that polymok and all those other things are out of the sudden not compelling features anymore to be implemented somewhen later? NOOOOOOOOOoo >.>

In two years. You hang your hats On the above?

Don’t you think with the fact that this has been tossed about back and forth they would have at least..made an announcement that they were working on it?

See the last I remember was Anet saying they had no plans on providing mounts. The Colin video you seem to hang your hat on… said how cool it would be to have combat mounts. But in 18 months not a single mount related comment.

Don’t you think if Mounts were going to be part of the next expansion, (which they have not announced they are working on… ) they would have said so by now?

" We are thinking about the mear possibility that maybe…some day… maybe before your grandchildren have grandchildren…. providing some sort of mount…"

Have we seen anything at all from anet, that promises even THAT small amount?

Anything?

Mike O’Brien seems to indicate that they will not disclose any information that is still in development or in consideration. Only content that is ready to be rolled out will be announced. It makes no sense but that’s how it is – status quo stuff. See – anyone can mindlessly hammer out an “argument” like that.

It’s an arbitrary response to justify opposition against an arbitrary request.

You and I know mounts won’t come because there’s much bigger fish to fry. Why, then, do mounts have to be a bad thing? Why must there be a stipulation of functionality associated with it? It’s as mindless and arbitrary as wanting any other cosmetic or mechanical system to be tweaked/[re]placed.

Ya, same as much as valid, like you hanging permanently your hat on it, that GW2 will never get Mounts (forever), because of Anet saying, that they didn’t want to give the game Mounts at game release, what you seem to take as a statement, that means for you forever

But as you see, promises mean nothing. ANet promised theoretically precursors 2013. See, what has happened out of that?
Anet basically promised with the announcement, that GW2 wold have at its game release date as playable features minigames like Polymok , Bar Brawls ect. , so that every single visitable town in this game would be a place full of live, where players will always find something relaxing to to there – reasons why you want to visit each town, what Polymok would basically be – a good reason, why I should want to go visit Rata Sum. In 2 years – nothing, not even one single mention about it, what is the reason for this massive delay of this announced feature and what anets plans are about these missing things uptil today.

Don’t take anything in a game like GW2 as a promise. It will be only a curse of the sword of damocles, that will always hang over your head causing only frustration for you, if you take something for promises in MMORPG’s and they cause a heavy burden only upon the developers, when the community is in believe, that somethign has been promised to go out instantly with pitchforks and torches out onto the barricades for riot, if they think a promise got broken.

OS no, ANet never yet has promised anything about Mounts beign implemented ever.
But still uptil today they also never ruled them forever out.
Since game release, and thats the reason why many people always come up again with mount threads, is, ANet also never said, that Mounts will be never implemented.
They keep the door basically open for two years now, the chance that they will be implemented as a backburner project as basically “surprise feature” is still given.

Not maybe with this Feature Pack, maybe with the next one. Maybe not. Perhaps as like I speculate for why we haven’t seen Mounts until today is that NCSoft says anet, they should wait with this feature for the first real Expansion 2015.
Who knows, all just speculation, because nothign else is it, what anyone of us can do only … but it are valid reasons for why a company can just not implement something instantly as quick as much like the community might wish for a feature beign implemented.

See how long it took Anet to implement now with the upcoming Feature Pack something kitten simple looking, like the Commander Color Tags. – Over 2 years.
Now its maybe just time for you to think about the difference between the effort, that such a Commander System Change took ANet, and for how hard much more harder it may be for Anet to implement Mounts then.
Moutns are no easy task, that do you know as well, as I do, which is also the reeason why I keep telling you, that I know fully well, that ANet should work currently first on other thigns with higher priority, because adding Mounts is no simple task and we don’t know, how Anet would implement Mount,s what kind of massive rattail that feature might have with all the content they would add with them (including maybe mounted combat), which could also be reasons for why it does take so long out of the reason, that Anet wants to get sure, that Mounts will get implemented as unique and innovative as possible and this naturally without causign the game to get countless of new clipping issues and other bugs of course )

I hang my hat on Polymok so long, because these things were part of what ANet envisioned for GW2, how cool and fun exploring all the kinds of cities would be with all these features, because certain things were already also part of GW1 in regard of Polymok (The poor asura workers in rata sum are working on that Asura Gate to the Polymok Arena now for 2 years and nothing happened there…)

However, I think it makes no sense to discuss this out any further.
I think its time to hear a final official word from Anet about this, they are the only judge, that can decide over everything. They are the only people, which can say if something is compelling or not and they are the only ones, which can exactly answer the why-question, for why we have yet no mounts and if they maybe are working on something like mounts in the future and what their plans with that feature would be, if thats really the case, so that we would get a good impression about it, what we can expect from mounts being in GW2.

Unless we don’t know, what we can expect from this feature, everything ends up only again in speculations over speculations and it stays a never ending fight between pro and contra for or against mounts.

Don’t you think with the fact that this has been tossed about back and forth they would have at least..made an announcement that they were working on it?

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Communicating-with-you

Why, then, do mounts have to be a bad thing? Why must there be a stipulation of functionality associated with it? It’s as mindless and arbitrary as wanting any other cosmetic or mechanical system to be tweaked/[re]placed.

Because there are many players that play GW2 that dislike mounts. It’s that simple.

Gw2 was designed so that mounts are not needed for swift travel. There is swiftness for that ( see what i did there?)

The game was designed so that differing professions have differing access to speed-boost. This was a decision BY the game developer. They decided that speed-boost should be a feature, around which the difference of profession skills, armor runes, weapon sigils, and traits should revolve.

That was a decision made by the developers 2 years ago when the game launched.

This is also a reason many of the people playing like playing Gw2. No Mounts.

No Mounts is part of Guild Wars Lore, and part of Guild Wars’ Brand.

To provide speed-boost mounts goes against all of the above. so unlike say adding new armor or weapon skins, for which the game has already been designed. Adding mounts would require a Lot of time, energy, resources, rebalancing of speed-boost between professions, redesigning sigils and runes, etc etc etc.

one doesn’t launch such an endeavor " just because we happen to think it would be cool."

it is a LOT to do, just because one group in the playerbase thinks " it’s cool."

Plus you will aggravate a very vocal subset of the player base.

That is why those that want mounts need to give arguments as to why it would be necessary, or beneficial. You need to come up with arguments because you want Anet to change something around which a LARGE part of the game engine is already designed. Waypoints are there, so no one needs a speed-boost mount. Professions have been balanced around the idea that some professions will have this amount of speed-boost and that type… etc….

All of that would have to be re-thought. A lot of work. So No…

1. it would be cool
2. I want it.
3. Why not?

They aren’t enough. if they were, we would have had mounts a Long time ago.

The amount of work required would be monumental, the opposition vehement, and the reasons offered for the change,…. frivolous.

Looks like a non-starter.

Orpheal, you are making a strawman argument so i won’t bother addressing it.

I never said " No changes ever …" this is you putting words in my mouth you can then form your arguments against.

What I did say was, that since I do not want mounts, since I am supporting the status quo, I need no arguments.

I wanted to have sub-classes in the game. I wanted the skills to Not be locked to weapons. I wanted a change to the status quo. I realized I…. needed to make compelling arguments to show that these changes would be either necessary or beneficial.

I also understood, that those NOT wanting these changes did Not need a single argument for wanting the status-quo to remain.

All they need is " I do not want the changes you want, I am fine with the game as it is."

It is the same here.

Those that want a change from the status quo, need to provide compelling argument as for why the change they desire is either beneficial, or necessary.

Pointing to a List of changes that Anet promised and did not deliver, is NOT a compelling argument for why MOUNTS are necessary or beneficial.

Pointing to a Long list of changes to the game since launch…. is not a compelling argument for why MOUNTS are necessary or beneficial.

Pointing to a long list of things Anet has added to since the game launched…. while it does show that Anet is willing to add fun items to the game…. is NOT a compelling argument for why MOUNTS are necessary or beneficial.

For 2 years we hear :

1. it would be cool
2. I want it.
3. Why not?

THOSE, are not compelling arguments as to why mounts specifically might be a good addition or change, a beneficial addition or change.

Simply repeating over and over " it would be cool, I want it" is not enough. if it were, we would have mounts by now.

The fact that after two years of " it would be cool, I want it" has not gotten you mounts, Kind of proves that " it would be cool, I want it." is not compelling Anet.

In science, denialism has been defined as the rejection of basic concepts that are undisputed and well-supported parts of the scientific consensus on a topic in favor of ideas that are both radical and controversial.3 It has been proposed that the various forms of denialism have the common feature of the rejection of overwhelming evidence and the generation of a controversy through attempts to deny that a consensus exists.45

No. 5 in the Racial Mount series: Norn!

…I dunno, a ram or something. Norn are kinda boring and deserve a boring mount. =P

But fiiiiine, I’ll be nice. They could get a Minotaur mount. That they have to hunt and tame. And then share a beer with.

@Nerelith You are the one the keeps these mount threads alive. Look, just let it go. Let the few people that want mounts say so and watch the thread fall off the page. Good grief, this is getting old.

I’m anti-mount myself but every time we continue to argue with the pro-mount crowd all we do is bump the thread.

Mostly I feel that it is best to have just one thread and keep it alive, so that we can tell the new " I want a mount" player what thread their " I want it" post was already addressed, seen, read, evaluated, and then ignored by Anet.

See what will happen if this thread drops off page 1. and ends up Not seen, is… some new Player that wants Mounts won’t bother checking the history, and we will see " suggestion: mounts? # 243,987,079,457,……..

lol..watch I’ll let it drop off the page, and $5 gets you $10 that within a week of thise dropping to page 2….we see at Least a new mounts thread.

The mind is its own place and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.

His words evolve around “I don’t want you to have things you want to have”, “I just don’t want X because you could have fun with it and I don’t.”, “I don’t want you to have fun, ffs!”

- He doesn’t care that he wouldn’t have to use Mounts.
- He doesn’t care that there are graphics settings.
- He doesn’t care that it would be an additional income for Anet (Skins?).
- He doesn’t care that it could open up new game modes (like fighting or racing), which adds to the variety of GW2 and the horizontal progression.
- He doesn’t care that it would broaden the immersion, especially for roleplayers – because mounts ARE in fact a part of Guild Wars’ lore. (Do your homework, please!)
- He even doesn’t care that there are already mounts in this game (Golem? Broom?)
- He doesn’t care, that most people that want mounts, would be totally fine with them being just cosmetical things. Anet just would have to add some more variation, and many people would be happy.
- He doesn’t care about any other thing we provide.

All he wants is to not see mounts in GW2 because … broccoli …

And that frankly is the point where every other word is wasted.

Aaas for mount ideas … Sylvari could ride on their hounds. Norn get Tauntauns … ^^’

I’m not saying mounts should absolutely be a thing, and probably not such a big project as combat mounts (because it would turn into yet another #1 spam fest sadly) but housing definitely. They need guild halls houses they could make it a location that’s contested so that people could do whole guild battles, or they could put the personal housing in gathering/farming instances but they definitely should do something.

I can’t tell you how much joy it brings to decorate your home from various rewards from doing adventures that are part of the overall lore of the game. It’s so fun to show off trophies from bosses you’ve killed or gifts from faction societies you’ve helped. When I was in LOTRO that was the most fun I had with Housing.
