People are confused, scare me as well :(
You aren’t banned without reason. You are banned because you break the terms, which you read when you accept them on account creation.
End of story.
Hmm.. i’m not banned. Because i cannot write here if i’m banned :O
I’m more curious about Trading, naming and that sort of stuff :O
Hentai Promstar? Well, hentai is a word that in itself pretty much breaks the naming policy, and Promstar? Sounds kind of like Pornstar to me.
We do not permit names that:
Have offensive racial, ethnic, or national connotations.
Include hate speech or bigoted slurs
Reference sexual acts or real life violence.
Are pornographic.
Make inappropriate references to human anatomy or bodily functions.
Reference illegal drugs or activities.
Reference religious or historical figures.
Reference real-life people.
Reference names of copyrighted or trademarked characters, materials, or products.
Use misspellings or alternative spellings of names that violate any of the above rules.

1. Not the full story.
2. It was an Exploit.
3. That name is indeed borderline offensive. Common sense is all it takes. I know it’s rare, but we can all find a little if we try.

ok if not the full story.. So i can send someone 350-400g and i will not be banned or?
If you send a person 350G expecting to get a precursor in return you will likely just end up 350G poorer.
There is a trading post for a reason.
m8 i’m talking about guildie. And what about recipe. They said that they cannot give it to me because they cannot see that i get it.. How they can see who did exploit?

ANet made their TOS in a way that it can be interpreted in any way ANet feels they want, and that’s wrong.
This goes for the name as well. There is no clear definition of what is or isn’t considered an offensive name.
For the example that Jehuty gave, Hentai Promstar, people see the name ‘Hentai’ and instantly assume it means some Japanese porn or something. In reality, the Japanese definition for the word ‘hentai’ means more of an abnormality. If used like ‘hentai seiyoku’, on the other hand, means a sexual perversion. ANet doesn’t know this, because they rely on people who are quick to judge and don’t even research what a name means before laying down their ban hammer. As a child of Japanese decent, I am a bit offended that ANet would generalize a meaning like this and assume the worse in its meaning. That is an unfair judgement on their end.
ANet, please rewrite your TOS to include more concrete meanings to what you consider exploits, and what is considered offensive.

Do you think most of the playerbase sees Hentai as some innocent Japanese word, or as the animated porn version? Especially combined with “Promstar” which could refer to a) pornstar or b) an underage girl?
Tbh, I didnt even know Hentai could mean anything else but the porn.
Taken this into account, do you still think it’s unfair to ban for this?
Because hentai is generally used as a definition of japanese pornographic comics and animation. (at least in the western world). That the oroginal meaning might not be refering to the same thing is a completely other matter. This is also something that is up to the person naming the character to research before naming their character.

There is some draconian enforcement of rules it seems. People were banned for sending gold to someone on another account. To further the confusion even Anet’s own junior staff questions whether this was an exploit. There was no warning at all, Anet could have used two things instead of banning people permanently like a PTR and a rollback which I’m sure they have the tech and coding to do easily.

Yes, because it’s not my fault you think that way. Just like a person being banned for using the name Lucifer, even if it’s his real name given to his parents. Jest like having Jesus banned because someone is offended by Christian overtone in this game. Guess what, Jesus is still a widely used name in many countries.
To ban or hate someone because of a name without really looking into it or understanding it is, by literal definition, prejudice.
Your name also can’t reference real life people. Have some originality with your name, it’s not hard.

I guess when people scan over the user agreement to make their case they overlook this small little line:
You understand that NCSOFT may in its sole and absolute discretion terminate Your ability to access or use the Game for any reason or for no reason whatsoever
Doesn’t get any more plain than that.
inb4threadlock. Seems to be an influx on it…even on very well mannered threads.
The censorship brigade is in full force today. I guess they double the forum moderator staff after a ban wave.
Ignoring the character name issue, which is lols, I think you’re absolutely right that playing this game without gettnig banned is very confusing.
Not allowed to send too much gold, not allowed to do anything profitable, not allowed to buy gold from any website except Arenanet, drop rates are so insanely terrible it’s impossible to make any high end gear without either exploiting, buying gold or botting.
Weird game tbh. They want you to “have fun”, but ONLY IN A CERTAIN WAY. Yet there’s not really a tutorial or instruction manual for the game so you have to discover what that certain way is… somehow…
It is not confusing- I have never been afraid of being banned and I have been playing since the start. I’ve had a tremendous amount of fun.
I am not afraid of being banned because I don’t exploit, try to work the system or get while the going is good- my husband and I do send each other gold- but that has never concerned me.
It is really simple, play the game, enjoy yourself and if you should by some miracle get wrongly banned contact support- end of problem
Hi everyone,

Thanks for your understanding.
