I have a pet peeve regarding topic titles in these forums. I don’t like to have to open up a post to figure out what the subject of the post is. I also don’t like it when the title pulls me in only to discover that it has little relevance to the content of the post.

Once I read a posting in one of the GW2 forums (I don’t even remember what it was about) that had a title that implied that the ANet apocalypse was at hand and that the streets would soon flow red with the blood of the unbelievers. Okay, I may have exaggerated a bit with that description. When I opened said post, there was one little trivial thing the poster did not like about some recent GW2 developments. A misleading title got me to waste time reading something I had zero interest in! This is not Yahoo news!

Vague titles like “Can Someone Please Help” or “Does Anyone Else Have This Problem?” I just ignore. There’s a good chance I could help the poster, but I’m not going to waste my time diving into a poorly described topic.

I realize that the title window is small. Maybe you think you need a title like, “I hate how difficult it is to navigate jumping puzzles with my Charr character because of his size and animations.” So, instead of condensing that down to something like, “Charr Problems With JP’s” you write, “ANet hates Charr!” or “GW2 is Doomed!” and we are supposed to open your topic to figure out what you are talking about.

Has one of your postings vanished into obscurity with little or no response? Maybe the reason isn’t poor content, but a poor choice of title.

^ this.

Thank you for voicing it. I’m also tired of the cheap tricks and provocative titles that people use to force us into reading yet another “expension”, mount and “GW2 is dying because they don’t give me XYZ!” thread.

20 level 80s and counting.

Solution: Reddit

Of course, the problems there will only serve to refocus your mind.

This isn’t a problem exclusive to guild wars 2. Unfortunately I think it creates a lot of overhead to have to police the topic title of everything.

There exists other forums where you see the beginning of the opening post of a thread in a popup, if you move your mouse over it. So you can see if the thread may be worth reading. Unfortunately, this forum doesn’t seem to support this.

My current solution is to middle-click threads, so they open in a new tab in Firefox. If the thread isn’t interesting, I type strg-w, which closes the tab and immediately returns me to the tab with the thread list without loading time. Somewhat tedious, but the best solution for me with this strange, basic, featureless forum software, which is not state of the art as support for a top game like GW2.

OP I suggest you change your thread title to “Mounts”.

“Block list applies to the forum as well.” would be nice.

If the forums had an ignore feature I wouldn’t care. Do it once and your threads all end up in my trash bin forever.

Haven’t actually got annoyed enough or often enough to get around to making a Greasemonkey script to do that yet.
