Because the idea is bad and you should feel bad.

A lot of teenagers play this game. So marriage/dating is a big no-no.

e.g. 44 year old male player nicknamed “OldGuy” is dating a 15 year old female player nicknamed"MeSoHot".

See a problem?

Thing is, without marriage option they can still be dating. With marriage option they’re still not married legally and know nothing about each other in real life.

Good lord, THREE pages? I laughed my kitten off at the comments on the first page alone. I did, however, like the comment about a buff for the warband. Our charr PS sort of leaves our own PS warband in the dust- NOT what a charr would do. Bonus buff if all toons in the party are charr and in the same guild. Maybe a ferocity buff, when that arrives. But then, of course, we’d hear all the “not fair!” comments from other races. Krewe buff? I’d be good with that, too.

wait what? marriage? you want your pixels to marry another persons pixels go find a korean or japenese free to play game. If people want to do a rpg and act as a couple thats their business but I would drop this game in an instant if they resorted to creating some kind of marriage system for a few extra bonus stats. Anet has much more important things to do then even consider this as possible.

Other than harder gameplay, none of those other things are “needed” in GW2.

I will have to say no because of the obvious ramifications, political and sociological implications not to mention humanity is not an asexual race, opposites attract while similars repulse enough said.

This is a bad idea as well… I can just Imagine the pain in the kitten grouping and the LFG tool would become with something like this. “LFG lvl 80 experienced Norn Zerker Warrior Couples only 10,000 AP+ speed clear”….uhhhgggg

I don’t think that bonuses should be given with these titles. Because I mean you don’t see LFGs at the moment asking for a specific title unless it’s dungeon related.

Only if I can marry one of my minipets because that’s the only way I’d ever want this to happen.

Plus, I see absolutely no positive reinforcement for this. I guess I could apply marriage to one of my friends on the game but the idealistic standard that I actually give a kitten about anyone that much in the game? I have friends, I have guildmates and I have acquaintances in the game but my relationship with them comes pretty far down my list of priorities; much farther down than, say, a relationship I have with my neighbor or, even more importantly, a boyfriend/girlfriend.

I mean I guess it’d work…but it just seems like self gratification for people who try to make relationships in the game when for the thousands of us who, like, don’t bother pushing our lovers into playing a video game or don’t care to build an e-relationship lose out on a buff.

If the idea were implemented at all, it would have absolutely no bearing on the gameplay whatsoever. Like all of your other personal decisions, it should really hold little bearing over anything in the game’s function. Why? Because that’s fair. Lowest common denominator will always be fair.

I’d like to see Mounts as well.

I also agree on harder gameplay, although I don’t see harder gameplay coming out any time soon without more instanced content being implemented. Simply because the game lacks much ingenuity in content that is “difficult” as is. A game with “difficult” content that almost purposely isolates bearbow or staffmentalist because of efficiency is not exactly “difficult.” However, in the same regards, it can be difficult. Try running AC or Arah with 5 mediocre players – it can be a challenge if not every person immediately resorts to the most efficient build as being the only “viable” option on the table, as many players like to mistakenly believe.

I’m not proposing there would ever be an actual solution to this, but the game’s designed currently so someone using bearbow, staffmentalist or conditionmancer can actually do something other than get in the way of an objective. Efficient? No. Viable? Yes.

Difficult? Well, that entirely depends on how much efficiency vs. viability is going on.

Only way I’d like to see this implemented is that if you ‘divorce’, all your gold, badges and other currencies get thrown into a pool then divided 70/30 for the woman/man, just like in real life.

New items in the Gem Store!
600 gems: Prenuptial Agreement
Requires: Female must sign while not under CC, witnessed by non-guild member, not applicable to legendaries even if soulbound.

Newsflash to misogynists, women get messed over in divorce settlements too and are increasingly often in need of prenups to protect them as well.

aaaaaaaaaand back to the real world now.

Oh lol, this thread has gotten so serious. A lot of you must be no fun irl if one has to get passionate over the tenets of marriage on the internet.

I mean really, in a game where pixels are allowed to KILL each other, and suddenly marriage is inappropriate? Maybe I’m just indifferent, since I don’t see the characters depicted in game as me so it’s not like I’m marrying someone online much like if I kill someone in pvp/wvw, I’m not actually stabbing them with a flag.

Yes, in a game that lacks critical features such as guild halls and needs improvement elsewhere, this isn’t a priority. But it’s not like they’re mutually exclusive or anything. I mean I hope people realize that the team that fixes bugs is not the same as the people who consider balance. Can’t we file these suggestions under “things to do many years later”? Or no, that makes too much sense?

For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards,
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

There are a lot of games that allow you to get married and do even more after that. If virtual marriage is so important to you check out Second Life. You can even dress up in clothes made up of lion fur or wear a hat that looks like a penguin, or anything else you can imagine for your wedding. Enjoy.

Worst idea ever! Played games with marriages and it causes more problems than it’s worth. You have crazy people with no “real” life that take it serious. If this gets into gw2 I will likely find another game. Not having marriages is one of my favorite things about the game. It causes unnecessary conflict and “game drama”. I would hope guild wars 2 is above such nonsense. If you want partner buffs get it some other way not marriage.

While the general principle of marriage in a game is not bad or wrong, and I can understand that some people would like it… it really would cause more issues than it’s worth. I’ve seen too many friendships, alliances, etc broken up because of ‘game dating.’

If you’d like your character and someone else’s to be married, buy name change contracts and set your last names to the same or something. There are ways to work around the lack of this feature in the game.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I have enough trouble keeping my RL wife happy most of the time. Not convinced I’d fair any better with a Tyrian spouse.

Woo can you imagine what your rl wife would say if that Tyrian spouse was not her? Game or not, I know many that would classify that as ‘cheating.’

Of course, there are some who wouldn’t too…I’m sure. I don’t know any, but I’m sure they exist.
