What could you possibly fill 12 bank tabs with?

Anything and everything that doesn’t allow stacking.

The question was more along the line of how and why someone would need that much space unless they were a serious hoarder (ignoring items being held as investments).

Investing is a major impact on this. So are items like Black Lion Salvage kits. You get even more than 1 of these and you are losing space somewhere. Get 50+ and then its even worse. Let alone if you are acquiring material for mas crafting or other activities. And yes then there is the junk or siege or boosters…fills up fast.

There are people that hold onto items that they’ll likely never use.

My guess is that it’s a mentality brought over from other games, to some extent.
GW1 for example- you’d have plenty more bank panes/slots as standard than in GW2, which allowed for such hoarding
.

Moreover, other games may not have such a quick and efficient trading post. So if you merched that stuff, it might be really difficult to buy back what I sold previously.

The TP is the reason why I don’t hoard too much tradeable stuff. I know that it doesn’t matter if I sell it now, as I can just re-buy it and get it almost instantaneously. I might lose out on a small % of gold, but for me that’s worth de-cluttering my bank. In addition to this, there might be a chance that I won’t need that stuff again, which means I’ve de-cluttered AND netted some useful gold.

Of course, I wouldn’t sell anything that I believed to have some kind of investment value.

Guild Wars 1 only has 160 slots (8 panes x 20slots) and 36 material slots. They did release one more pane for the 4th year anniversary, but I don’t think you can get it now.

They made it so you can get it during the annual anniversary event.

Once a year then, during that event. For some reason they didn’t want to make money selling bank tabs.

It’s none of your business.

Sure it is. It became so when the topic was brought up on a general discussion board.

That said, sure. Add more tabs. Have the costt of additional tabs be scaled up based on how many tabs you already have or something to discourage true hoarding perhaps.

There was no way to increase the stack size for material storage either. I think I still have piles of rocks sitting in one of my characters’ inventory

I would be screwed without using characters as mules. Infact it actually hampers my playing because of how things currently set up.

11 slot banks – almost all full. Had a bit of a clear out to make a little room. I have a vast range of character bound items (wvw that cant be salvaged yet but can be soon), food which i never know which character I want it on, event currency (ie blooms) i not decided what to spend on, B.L salvage kits, tomes/scrolls/writs, bday gifts such as dyes, utility buffs, boosters/orbs etc, agony infusions etc. Runes/Sigils/Rare staffs/GS that gathering to forge on mass (2 tabs there alone often). Half a tab of fractal weapons, and then we get onto the big one!

Multiple tabs of Ascended equipment for Reaper/Revenant etc . cant put anywhere else as characters are already equipped with what they currently use and cant waste their inv for spare gear dont need yet.

The problem comes with characters though

I have about 300 ascended rings on mule characters, One of them is a bank character but the other is my thief whom now is unusable as he overloaded with storing stuff.

Warrior: Unusable as he got all the emp.frags/blood dust/dragonite and overloaded.

Ranger: Random stuff that I wish to keep for future (SAB tokens, tonics etc)

My playstyle has me using all classes at some point and 3 of them are marked unusable currently. . . And this with me using 2 guild banks to store crafting materials.

Given I dont really have a “hoard” compared to a lot of people I can understand the issues with space. Only reason I know where things are is the simple fact I tried to batch similar things together and put them on same character.

I’ll admit it’s borderline hoarding, but with all the keys I’ve bought and BL salvage kits I have they alone take up 2 bank tabs, used to be 3 but I’m eventually getting through em. Then there is another half tab of just boosts. Then I have 3 tabs of ascended gear (which will get salvaged!!!!!!) and another 2 tabs of WvW gear (that I can finally salvage soon!!!!) so that’s 7/12 tabs taken up before the gear of 19 toons are put in to effect.

There’s also all the toys, tonics, royal air ship passes, sigils, runes, foods, siege, ambrite fossil skins, other skins, crafting mats that don’t have a mats material storage, ascended insignias, ascended recipes, PvP armor boxes, PvP weapon boxes and so on…

3 years of the game and bank is maxed + toons as mules, I plan on playing this game for another 3 years if possible, would really appreciate more bank space to accommodate for that.

(I’m confused as to why people are against the idea, it doesn’t effect anyone in a bad way what so ever? If you don’t need it, then great you saved money! But I needs it, and so do others apparently.)

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.

The reason you’re confused is that no one has actually said they are against the idea. The responses here have explained why some folks don’t think it’s as big an issue as the OP.

  • The game already offers lots of storage, so those who are running out of room are much more likely to have a hoarding issue rather than a lack-of-space issue.
  • Presumably, ANet has done the cost-benefit analysis on the needs of the data infrastructure to support more slots/account versus the number of players that would spend cash to buy them if they were available.
  • Similarly, there’s some cost|risk to updating various items or updating mechanics to make it easier to manage certain aspects of inventory. The game already has some excellent tools, including the “deposit all” option, the wardrobe for skins, the wallet for tokens.

tl;dr I don’t see people that are against adding more storage. I only see people explaining why it’s not likely to happen and/or there are things we can do now to manage our inventories.
