So it begs the question, why have levels at all.
Why not simply have an end game , where all the effort of the game designers goes
into making Ënd Game content .

This gets worse.

“End game” was originally a bandaid. In MMOs of yore, the “main game” was about the character power progression, as in, the leveling. This is inherited from pen&paper RPGs, though ofc the mechanics dealing out experience had to be abstracted somehow (leading to “the grind”, as you could get XP just for repeatedly killing stuff which your GM would never sign off).

But once you hit max-level, this mechanic ofc falls apart. And RPGs had issues implementing something not having a level cap at all. Hence the “end game”, an attempt at recreating the continuous power gain of the character, usually via items, sometimes via spell upgrades (EQ1).

GW2 tries to break away from that, and I <3 it for that, but yes you can notice how it’s fraying at the seams. Then again, end game focus isn’t working out well conceptually, either. In the end, both face the issue that they’re trying to recreate something which requires an active game master to babysit your group.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

1. Create new character
2. Go to your capital
3. Walk through portal to LA
4. Walk through each of the other capitals’ portals
You now have a WP in each capital

In all fairness, I’ve just read the opening comment and come straight to the bottom but if you have spent all your life in the city and have not traveled this is the price you end up paying for not exploring. A major part of the game mechanic is exploring. I mean, leveling up in the city and that’s it? Where is the fun in that? You have to get out there and SEE the real Tyria … or sadly, and ultimately it will be a case of wanting it all but seemingly being unable or unwilling to work for it.

Who says your definition of fun is the same... After map completion 9 times I rightfully don’t want to explore.

No one is saying explore if you don’t want to explore. However taking one or maybe two play periods to get the waypoints you need is not expecting too much of people who are playing a mmorpg. There’s not that many of them and it doesn’t take that long to do targeted runs to needed waypoints.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Lots of options for getting around. You only really need them in Orr where the monsters are designed to discourage straight-up running past them.

Thanks, I forgot about stealth and such. I am used to figuring out a clear path and booking it past any monsters (my ele is covered with sigils and runes to grant more speed).

Through either the wiki or a prior character you can know ahead of time where the WPs are at and any gotchas around them (like champ spawn points). I still take the strategy of zipping around a zone when I first enter it and only am concerned with getting the most waypoints unless I can not help it … it makes things so much easier the next time I am in the area, especially if the WP I wanted to use is blocked because of a battle.

Think of all the casual players, they work all day, have kids and want to enjoy playing in the evening. Clearly unlocking relevant waypoints is asking too much of them. I think all WPs should be unlocked on first character creation.

Maybe not on the first character but for the following ones for WPs you have discovered. Even if it were only a subset (like the ones on either side of a tunnel/gate) it would be handy.

I saw a page in wiki for a possible gemstore item. It would allow you to learn one waypoint per device. Whether it will ever become available is unknown as well as if it allows you to select any waypoint or just one particular wp per map.

There is an item like this- https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Teleport_to_Friend

It doesn’t unlock a WP unless your friend is at the WP. They are quite useful on alts. The catch is they only come from black lion chests.

Yah. I have a couple of those. They might be useful for moving an alt deep inside the HoT at a later date. The item I saw though was something not yet in game but mentioned in wiki. I wasn’t able to find the page again, so maybe it was removed, but it said it would allow that char to learn one waypoint.

Oh, that would be nice if we could purchase something like that outside of RNG. They’re really handy when you decide spur of the moment to run a dungeon (or go anywhere) on an alt that has no map completion.
