Please fix the human female left leg.
The second screenshot uses the masquerade boots which also has a line somewhat. Sorry if the screenshots are kind of hard to see but thats as close as i could zoom in without cutting off the feet.
The last one is of the character creation screen with no armor visible so you can see the anatomy of the leg and how out of place the foot really is.
I actually never noticed this, and now it can’t be unseen.

Oh dear, I have 4 human females and never noticed that before… Now it is going to bother me forever.
I hope it gets fixed soon.

it actually can be done with the human body. However it is a contortionist effect, and unless you are double jointed, it hurts like hell. I also wouldn’t recommend maintaining it for a long period of time unless you are double jointed as it would cause significant strain on the leg muscles to do such a thing.

Maybe she was just born that way
gee…thanks… I never noticed it in over a year of playing…
now it’s going to stand out like Rudolph’s nose ever time I look at my human female characters…
lol… it is kind of funny, though. It’s not like the leg is out, it’s like the knee is aimed wrong. Everything else looks ok to me, but the knee is mounted on the side of the leg…
wow… just wow…
my feet do this.
it is known as “ten-to-two” feet.
it is common.
you need to look at other peoples feet more.
Everyone’s an anatomy expert!
Thanks for your attention to details, I want my characters to stand like heroes.
That said, this may be a tough fix, depending on how the animation cycles were created/implemented. It makes me wonder if there is a mocap actor with this horrible gait, polluting the game industry…
Fingers crossed.

I think humans can stand to take a backseat in the consideration department for a while. There’s four other races which are not catered to nearly as lovingly as humans.

Yes, yes indeed. All my characters will now be forever flawed until this is fixed. C’mon developers! Wow. Quite obvious now. Thanks to the OP for pointing this out.

^ this. Oh man this.
How did this go unnoticed for over a year on the most played race?? I wish it were still unnoticed. My eyes!
Thankfully, I only have 1 female human character and I don’t play her anymore.
Do the female norn suffer the same “deformity”?

So that’s the reason behind the weird running!
Yep, GW2 animators have no idea how to bone a mesh -_-

^It is quite different.
I know I can’t do that with my leg.

Aside from the recent bug with female running, the animations in this game have been pretty superb.
Overall, I must agree with DarkWasp.. the character animation in this game is top notch.
The male asura’s right arm is also a bit messed up as well. I don’t think it’s a matter of a quick fix though I could be wrong.

I was referring to this “bug” actually, though animation and rigging are 2 different things.
You can have a perfect rigging and an awful animation (like many games) or have a fluid animation and still get pretty weird results (like this “bug”).
Anyhow, I’m pretty sure this is not a bug and “someone” mess with the rigging but well, whatever.

This has to be a poor joke. It is clear the character’s “weight” is simply shifted to her right leg. I’d much rather ArenaNet fix all the clipping issues than waste time on these delusions of physics experts.

It isnt at all an issue of how weight is distributed. I’ve taken anatomy classes as well as many art classes and it is clear that the person that did the model made an oops. You can see this because the norn female also has her weight on her right leg but yet her left leg isnt contorted and broken. Anyone that has taken any anatomy class and knows how the bones are positioned can see that this isnt correct. You have 2 bones in your lower leg and even if you do move your ankle to the outside the bone that creates the shin will move towards the outside as well and not the inside like is shown in the screenshots. You can even check yourself in game if the screen shots are hard to see.
I dont see any other issues with any of the other races its just this one stuck out. I dont think it would be too hard of a fix since the animation from standing still to running is pretty quick. If anything they should address them all at once. And this isnt a “physics” issue its an anatomy issue, nor is it a trick of the eyes. It is what is in game at the moment and should be fixed at some point in time along with any other graphical bugs in the game.
Also with the 2 pictures, both models have on high heels along with the toe being the only thing touching the ground in the leg that i assume your referring to. In the case of the model in game, both feet are planted on the ground and you can clearly see the muscle on top of the foot that would tilt the foot upward is contorted in a way that i have never seen before in my years of art and my class of anatomy.
Maybe she was just born that way
Maybe it’s Maybelline!
I’ll have to check after the holiday when I get back home then, and especially observe it animated.

much ado about nothing
I prefer they spend the resources on something more worth while like a dungeon or some new content… instead of fixing something that 99.9% of people will never notice.

You mean like living story, and more scarlet? Or perhaps, you meant more resources towards quaggan backpacks and other useless vanity items. Go visit the various threads, such as, dungeons, suggestions, etc., and you’ll see things that haven’t been fixed for well over a year.
Character models should be the #1 focus for any MMO. It’s the main controller to the virtual world. It needs to be flawless, and this is why WoW is generally considered to have the best in the industry. I’m not talking about graphically either, but actual physics, movement, rotations, camera-views, jumping, server-client response time, etc. It blows GW2 away in those respects.
Reminds me of the saying “one eye is going into the shop, the other is coming out with the change”
It’s a sad state of affairs when we’re using WoW as a graphics yardstick.

I just thought it was the girl characters leaning one 1 leg like girls do in real life. Very female look I thought.

No I was thinking more like adding real raids and new dungeons things of that nature. They where really that concerned about character models why not fix Charr? They have maybe 3 armor sets total that do not clip horribly on them.
No I was thinking more like adding real raids
Excellent suggestion! This should be Devs main priority! Then they can focus on mounts and then on a new gear tier every 6 months and finally they can work on new races like Orcs and Elven. Maybe add new zones full of pandas
And when that is done, they can focus on rename the game, something like World Of GuildCraft maybe?
/sarcasm

You’re absolutely right. I apologize for my quick and unhelpful remark.

There wont be raids, the closest thing GW2 has to a raid is Teq and you see how well that turned out. Also there has been new dungeons, the only thing is they were all temporary which there has been quite of bit of anger at that. With graphical bugs like clipping of these broken ankles (yes they are both like that depending on which leg doesnt have weight) it wouldnt take long to fix them in a couple of months.
Now to address what i said in brackets, yes depending on which leg has the least amount of weight on it has this effect. That tells me that the model creator didnt know much about the female anatomy or even just human anatomy. A little test everyone can do is to act like they have to go to the bathroom with their knees pointed inwards. Once you do that, try to twist your feet in the opposite direction. You will either hurt yourself or if it does twist the degree in which it does move wont be as high as in the game model. The pose it seems like they were going for is one of a relaxed feel like the 2 pictures someone else posted, the only thing is when you have a pose like that your foot tends to tilt. Your foot doesnt have the range of motion like a ball and socket has like your shoulder.
To do major game changes they would have to do an expansion just because theres so much that would need to be changed or fixed. They also wanted feedback and suggestions on how to fix it to speed up the process and I have done that.
