PoF - naysayer's feedback
Well it is good you guys are making conclusions based on a demo that is only part of a map without all events, meta’s and who knows what else.
That’s kind of the point of a demo: to sell the game.
Exactly. It’s easier to draw conclusions based on what we can currently see, as opposed to speculating a best case scenario that we have no idea about. Of course it’s just my opinion, and I would never cancel my preorder, but I don’t believe this map sells the game. I ran around on my mount for 10-15 minutes and saw the same 2-3 non-chained events and nothing else.
Most people are wise enough to know that a demo is just a very small taste of what is in store. Most people…
3. I actually like this. So I have to be contrary to your opinion here. Having the environment so large feels engaging and even more grand than before.
Hm, yes, truly engaging and magnificiant…
While you don’t have to agree with me, your misquote and utterly off base picture add nothing to the conversation. If you have something to actually contribute, maybe you should actually say it instead of being trite.
If the glider isn’t going to be of use in the expansion that is a serious road block to my desire to purchase it. I love gliding. It is my favorite thing about HoT maps. I don’t care at all about mounts. In fact, if that is the biggest thing going for this expac I am going to wait until buying and see what else it might offer that would make the purchase worthwhile. The demo was unimpressive. I didn’t find the mount to be intuitive or fun to play with. You can’t use it in combat. It just seems useless and like anet was attempting to satisfy those begging for a mount. Kinda makes me sad, but I was thinking about taking a break from the game anyways.
Vertical maps were cool, but that was a feature that HOT explored. This expansion is going to do something different to make exploring Elonia unique. That villager said “you will need” the raptor. It’s not just going to be a way to travel over flat terrain quickly.
The question in my mind is whether they will succeed at making these mounts feel the way gliding felt. Gliding seemed a part of the HoT maps. It never felt contrived. As I leaped over trenches and broken bridges that seemed placed in my path simply to give me a reason to use the raptor’s leap ability, it did feel somewhat contrived. But I want to give it a fair chance because I do like the feel of the raptor mount so far.
Having said that, I definitely wish I had some hope of seeing vertically layered maps in the HoT style. As I said in numerous discussions on the topic prior to the expansion announcement, I’ve been hoping for a compromise: a mix of flat and vertical maps. Unfortunately, it appears vertical maps are out in PoF. And that’s a big letdown for myself and anyone else who loved HoT map design.
I realize plenty of people didn’t love HoT map design, but a compromise (a mix of flat and vertical maps) would have been preferred. Not to mention gliding was almost universally popular, and minimizing it as a factor was a risky move, in my opinion. I hope the mounts pay off as well as gliding did!
Well said Ophidia. Unchained events, no real glider sections, rather flat map – i feel this is queensdale 2.0 in the desert. Something that could be accepted as core GW2’s very safe 1st expansion.
But not after HoT that dared to innovate, gave us gliders, vertical maps, masteries, adventures, outposts and incredibly beautiful lush and deep environments you just wanna loose yourself in.
I dunno as for rest of PoF, but the part shown in demo was quite unimpressive, especially given how lots of stuff got blocked (no elite specs, only raptor mount etc). A demo should hook you, grab your by your ….you-know-what and leave you salivating for more.
Here it got me wondering at best, not salivating. Lotta stuff gone (outposts, glider sections, verticality), others trimmed down (masteries, amount of adventures maybe). What’s left is mixture of a core tyria map with LS3 “redoable” hearts map style, that doesn’t leave me begging for more.
