Put the drops back into the game.
I believe a big part of this conversation should be about magic find specifically and the rarity of loot it affects.
If all these blues and greens are to have any real meaning, it has to be in the valuable improvement of magic find.
Magic find simply needs to affect many more things. That seems inescapable.
Black lion key is not something you farm. Its something you stumble upon accidently.
same as a precursor. Its purely an RNG item, its not even an actual reward.
Not only is the chance for a BL key worse than awful, the chance you even get something useful out of the black lion chest is probably even smaller lol.
When you have system that is RNG (black lion chest goodies) WITHIN ANOTHER SYSTEM OF RNG (getting the black lion key drop) , you have something that is UTTERLY and HILARIOUSLY greedy….
What was anet’s motive for the black lion key change? they don’t like farmers. PERIOD.
They want ppl in the gemstore buying the black lion key with real $$, they don’t want ppl farming the key through drops or story completion. That is a fact.
Oh yea anet increased the chances alright.
going from .0005% drop rate to .0010% drop rate is still laughable.
If you think this MMORPG has a good loot system in place where players can farm items they want, you are delusional.
all you do is farm gold at the best rate possible (silverwastes/daily dung speed run/ and chest/champ train) than buy whatever it is you are looking for. You don’t actually go out and have this hope of getting real loot, real drops…
Except BL Keys are primarily acquire via the Gem Shop. It’s an occasional reward as other Gem Shop items are from other activities and included as a very rare random drop in PvE.
You make it sound like drops are the primary method of getting them.
BL keys were primarily acquired from the key run…..(making a new character and getting it to the personal story step for the free key, deleting the character and repeating… ~20 min run after you get experienced with it)
Anet just killed that for obvious reasons (they want users spending $$$ for the keys instead of the farming run)..

I have 92% MF (112% counting the 20% MF upgrade in my triforge) So that’s 2.12x (or 1.92x when wearing the ruby orichalcum pendant) above baseline, yet most recent key was a week before the mordrem event. Got a total makeover kit too then gave myself a kewl green mohawk ^_^
Magic find does seem to need a buff though it’s hard noticing a difference.
I’m sure it’s been said before, but with ANet’s current habit of putting rewards in containers that MF doesn’t affect, it’s pretty irritating that Magic Find is relevant at all. Events can have anti-farm loot tables (champions and other mobs that don’t drop loot at all), and even Personal Story went that way.

It does affect many things; it just doesn’t affect anything that much. So someone with 300% MF will, over the course of 1,000s of kills, get better value from their loot compared to those with less MF.
If they did it any other way, MF would become so important that everyone would grind for it, giving too great an advantage to veterns (with the werewithal to do that more easily than new players) and putting pressure on prices of master/fine items.
bank express, Golems, trading post express, merchant express, tomes of knowledge, All types of dyes and kits, transmutation charges, black lion ticket scraps, tonics, non temporary gathering tools and boosters.
Tome of Knowledge : They never removed a way to get them. They only added new ways to get them over time.
Dyes : You are right. Before we could drop unindentified dye and now we can’t. Tbh I prefer the way it’s working now since dyes are account wide. Still, it was alway nice to drop one of those, so they could have kept it and limit other source of unindentified dye.
Tonics : They were always and are still are special reward during special events. There is no event in the last 8months because of the incoming xpac so there is no new tonics. I don’t see how this is related.
non temporary gathering tools : What?? Are you saying that you could drop an unlimited gathering tools before? Never saw that. Or maybe you are refering to something else. Never hear of non temporary gathering tools either. Are you sure you have the right name?
Transmutation charge or transmutation stone before always dropped the same way they do today. Map completion, daily rewards or gem store. Where were they used to drop that Anet removed?
Black Lion ticket Scrap : They were always from black lion chest, even were they were special unique ticket before.
The rest are all similar type of item and them too continue to drop the same way they used to.
Thank you. Finally someone who gets it! I ’m begining to hate posting here. No matter how valid a point you make 10 white knight trolls jump on the post to try and discredit it.
The game is not fun without drops and that is the way it is.
Grow a ticker skin dude and ignore the trolls because they will be everywhere in your internet life. Get used to it and just continue to exchange with the people that just disagree with you. And tbh, I didn’t see much trolls in that thread, mostly just people that disagree with you.
In the end of the day you are right, but we are also right. GW2 reward isn’t base on drop, but on gold. If you want drops there is plenty of game like that and it’s fine. I prefer looking at my gold per hour and then buy what I want and it’s also fine.

Yes, that’s how it’s designed — it’s meant to be an incremental improvement, not a major one.

I’m talking about how it was designed from ANet’s perspective, not how they are in reality. ANet expected players to pay.
