Quick Survey: Gems Bought / Hours Played
Not going to take your survey. I bought more gems (several hundreds of dollars) during my first 100 hundred of so hours of play. I was new and found things exciting, but that was back in 2013 and when they still sold armor sets in the gem store instead of outfits. Since then, and after being very disappointed with HoT, I don’t feel like Anet has earned much more of my money. I still buy $10 worth occasionally but it is mostly to send gifts to others.
Also your survey is not going to be very accurate because for example players that played 0-100 hours or 101-500 hours probably quit and won’t see this even if they bought gems during that time period. Also there are probably people that played 500 hours and spent say a hundred dollars on gems and people that have played 3000 hours and maybe spent 10 dollars on gems once. So again, this is not an accurate survey as you only ask if someone ever bought gems.

I’ve never purchased any gems with real world money, but I’ve received many of them as holiday gifts from relatives that bought them for me. As a result, it’s hard to accurately respond to questions about buying gems, since I can honestly say I’ve never personally bought gems, yet I’ve used many that were gifted to me
I think your survey needs more detail to actually be informative. As it is you’d group together someone who played for 1,000 hours and once spent $10 on gems 2 years ago and someone who has played for 500 hours and spent $2000 on gems. (Yes I’m sure there are people who have spent that kind of money, and probably more.)
Is that really enough detail to draw any kind of conclusions?
Edit: And yeah, it would also be helpful to distinguish between gems bought with gold, gems bought with your own money and gems given to you as a gift.

Did you mean ‘in’ Guild Wars 2, as in-game?
Or did you mean ‘for’ or ‘to use in’ Guild Wars 2, as I’ve purchased Gem Cards outside the game at retailers.
Your survey may need re-examining. Good luck.
The general basis is for a project to determine / show that people who play more, are more likely to buy gems.
At best, you can ask, “is there a correlation between time played and cash spent on gems?”
- Some people with jobs have more disposable income to spend — this group plays little and spends a lot of cash (for gems to convert to gold).
- Some without jobs have a lot more time than cash — this group plays a ton and won’t spend any cash on gems.
Those aren’t very good survey questions. It’s ‘did you buy gems’ y/n and ‘how many hours played’? With that, 800 gems and 1000 hours gives you the same response as 80,000,000 gems and 1000 hours. It also doesn’t separate gold bought gems from real money bought gems. I can’t see how you’ll get any information of worth from that survey.
ANet may give it to you.
I play all the time, but only buy Gems in October, but I buy like $100 worth, then, so not sure how that works out :P

Even then that’s only really the two ends of the spectrum.
I have a job, and I do buy gems with real money sometimes. But I almost never buy gems to convert to gold (I’ve done it twice, because I needed gold quickly, then I ‘paid it back’ by buying the same amount of gems with gold). I also spend a lot of time playing GW2, over 3,000 hours last time I looked.

I’ve played two years and i spend about $300 in gems a month most months, sometimes more, especially around christmas (for friends) or my birthday.
