Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
Really need a dueling menu

No, because the pvp forums would become one big “Balance Dewling” festival.
In that case, there should never be any updates at all.
Because they will all discuss about the latest updates. Very disgusting.

Dueling will never be implemented in the open world because it annoys too many people. The response against it is too vocal. Anet has gone out of their way to make a COOPERATIVE PvE experience rather than a competitive one. All competitive things in this game are walled of in their own areas, including minigames.
The only way it will be implemented is in it’s own area, because logically, it’s the best compromise Anet can make.
ANet needs to get rid of Scarlet blades because it annoys me.

well my concern is, is there a way to try builds (mostly traits) besides in spvp?
What I find funny is I’m balancing game time between Wildstar and GW2. Wildstar has a dueling feature. In no way am i bothered or even spammed with duel invites, or being trash talked in anyway. And I don’t think any game is really balanced on a 1v1 basis. Gw2 you can certainly spec for 1v1s if it’s your preferred play style.
Though I really don’t find it a acceptable way to duel against your friend, by having to either buy a Custom Arena with a lock and going through a loading screen(Open servers are prone to be trolled/interrupted.), or going to OS where the duels are server based. Meaning if you aren’t on the opposing side of the person you want to duel, you can’t unless you transfer severs which is a huge waste of gems unless you actually want to be on that server. Everyone else that’s against dueling probably paranoid about being harassed by that “bad guy” spamming duels at them and trash talking.

Duel Purpose
LOTRO has a dueling system that allows challenges to be turned off so you never see them. Played it for five years, never had any problems, and though I’m not into dueling as a rule, it was indeed handy for testing out PvP builds and tactics with friends.
Granted, public dueling can be somewhat irritating at times, but if “dueling mode” made players and their combat effects invisible and inaudible to everyone but each other, that would solve the problem without requiring duelers to leave an area where they may wish to wait and kill time, such as for a big world event or to queue up a group for something.
I’m pretty sure there are ways to implement dueling that wouldn’t take too terribly much development time, that would give duelers what they want, and that wouldn’t impose on anyone else.
And I’m pretty sure ArenaNet can do it, if they think it’s worth doing.

Since before launch the design and implementation of GW2 has allowed for, even encouraged it ni some cases, 1 v 1 play. Those arguing that the game was not designed with it in mind are mistaken.
5v5 actually. One of the reasons they didn’t implement dueling was that it would give undue focus to disparities between classes in duel settings, where they’d been designed for their roles in 5v5. You’d be an idiot to take a staff ele to a 1v1 against a decent player, for example.
That said, there are a handful of arenas in the open world that could be reasonable venues for impromptu matches. The Bane in the Black Citadel, for example, is sitting there doing nothing at the moment. There’s at least 3 other arenas in the charr lands that I can think of, near Butcher’s Block, Ashford Forum and Steeleye Span. There are a few norn arenas as well, human training yards, and even Sparring Rock in Dry Top would provide some novelty value… but there’s still that problem with some classes being more powerful than others. Anyone who’s tried solo roaming in WvW will know exactly what’s going to happen.

Class and skill balance, however never was (and likely never will) done with 1v1 in mind. In fact, 1v1 can be, depending on classes articipating, hugely unbalanced. Which by the way was the reason Anet supplied several times as an explanation why they don’t currently plan any 1v1 arenas.
I’d also like to point out, that in the PvP game modes that offer 1v1 play (sPvP and WvW), defeating the opponent is never the main goal. It’s even entirely possible to “win” such a fight without ever getting close to seriousy hurting your opponent.

He is referencing that empty sPvP servers are good for dueling, but also that they want to do in-world dueling.
I would love to see dueling. It’s one of the big that I really feel takes away from GW2. sPvP and WvW are serious business. In a duel you are fighting to 1 hp. Your not dying, you are not respawning, it is just about the friendly ability to fight your friends anywhere.
