Guild Wars 2

I received the game for Christmas. The physical cd in my stocking. Do I qualify for the free upgrade for the Digital Deluxe Edition? Or is that upgrade only for those who purchase the game through the GW2 Website? If I do qualify for it, should I load the game from my cd or should I download the game via the GW2 Website?

Ok, after doing some major digging for an answer in the forums, I came across this answer:

You can purchase the Digital Deluxe upgrade for both Standard and Digital Editions of Guild Wars 2. To upgrade your account to a Digital Deluxe Edition, follow the steps below.

Log in to Guild Wars 2.
Go to the Black Lion Trading Company Gem Store by pressing “O” (the default hot key) or by clicking the lion head icon in the upper left of your screen.
Select the Upgrades category on the Gem Store home page.
* Select the Digital Deluxe Upgrade item and click Confirm to purchase.

Please note that once your purchase is complete, your account will be upgraded the next time you log in to Guild Wars 2. Once your account is upgraded, you will receive an in-game mail message with your items attached.

However, what concerns me is the word purchase. How do I know I won’t get charged for doing this action? Will it automatically know I’m a new user and give me the DDE free or will I get a charge on my credit card for what ever the original upgrade price is?

Unless you’re purchasing gems, the BLTC will never directly charge your credit card. I’m not sure how they have the system set up but I imagine that any serial codes redeemed before January 7th will automatically be upgraded to the Deluxe Edition. If you find it doesn’t, then send a ticket in. I’m sure Anet will have no problem sorting it out.

Purchasing it from the gem store is only for those users that have already been playing and have the basic edition.

Actually, now that I’m searching the forums, it looks as though the free deluxe upgrade is only for purchases through the Anet site.

You get the deluxe for free when purchasing the Wizard Edition of the game. Since that edition is purchased through buy.guildwars2.com, I doubt you have it.

The deluxe upgrade is purchased through the gem store, it’s currently on sale for $20.
