Enough to ‘buy’ them, but you need the achieve the rank before the NPC will actually sell them to you. So yes you’d have the currency required without playing WvW, but not the ability to spend it.

That must be a new addition because my current WvW Rank is 6 but I already have the Gift of Mastery which requires the Gift of Battle to create

The Wiki says you need at least Rank 14 which I have not hit
and I know I am only Rank 6 since I hit it last night.. but I have had this gift for about 6-7 Months.. so it must have been added recently or I must have hit the required Rank in the past and never even noticed then Ranks were reset or something.. I dunno I don’t pay attention to the WvW news
either way I have the gift I even logged in and checked while typing this

If I remember correctly I got it after I aquired the Spear Precursor since I already had the required Items on hand and I wanted to get rid of some Obby shards since I had around 1000 of them at the time and needed the bank space

You know, just a suggestion. If you’re going for map completion over 10 toons, you should take each one and gather each vista and point of interest each time you change colors. Finish it while you’re doing map completion, not at the end.

I’m sure you were red plenty of times before that stretch of not being red. If you took one of those opportunities, you would not be having any issues.

I could do that but most of my toons are not even level 80 yet so they would just get destroyed in WvW
not to mention the sheer boredom of running the same 4 maps over and over with 8 different toons specially when 3 of them are identical O.o

but to be fair you do make a good point that would save me time in the long run so I’ll gladly accept that advice

If you wait for a zerg and run with it for little bits of time, you will level up incredibly fast in WvW especially with a good commander. My first map completion I did not do WvW at the time and just watched for the low population times for the opposing servers and snuck or ran past guards and got what vistas and waypoints that I could. At that time the map rotation was very slow so I started running with zergs to get into some of the towers and keeps I needed and for the rest I waited on the rotations. Eventually I got everything and figured out some things about WvW and how to follow a commander. The other two times I have done map completion on my other avies it took barely a week to run through WvW since I do go in regularly now. I have learned to enjoy it a lot more, found my fighting skills actually got better and I got to know who to follow that would get me into the keeps and towers I wanted more quickly.

If you have friends who do WvW ask them what commanders they like and go in when they are on, follow them and pay attention to their instructions. Most likely you will get your completion a lot sooner than you think and probably a heck of a lot of loot to boot…

I definitely think the wvw maps should count towards map completion. However, the way the many of the current wvw match-ups tend to go ends with a large chunk of the wvw maps being inaccessible to the losing servers. For example: CD (and NSP, to be fair) has been against HoD for weeks now. HoD has a lot more people on constantly, making it difficult for our smaller wvw population to hold things, let alone take much in their territory. So, unless we actually get a new match-up, anyone who doesn’t have stuff constantly held is kind of SOL. Luckily, we’ll have new servers next week due to the season, and hopefully those who have missed out will have a chance.

To be fair also, doing the entire PvE map over and over must be just as boring as doing the same maps over and over in WvW. You do the same hearts, the same vistas, run into the same NPCs, come across the same events. Talk about boring. At least WvW can change up and be different ACTION.

I recommend trying to find a few others that need the same thing and as a group, go roaming off PEAK hours. You’ll be surprised at what you can accomplish. My kids and I did a whole WvW map on an early Sunday morning. It was dead. That being said, you may have to be more patient now that Season 2 has begun. It’s pretty intense on my server (silver league) right now; then again, we’re up against the top 2 in our league. By reset tomorrow it will probably be better.

I agree… and I disagree.

First, WvW should remain as a part of map completeion because WvWers who come to this game for pure Realm Vs Realm combat are forced to PvE.Have you ever tried to kill an enemy player while running through Toxic Alliance?

And that’s just the start of it. It gets far worse when they have to maintain their income, farm the materials for their end-game, gear, etc. All in PvE.

On the other hand, the problem should not exist to begin with. Everything that is possible to do in Tyria should also be possible in the Mists. The Mists should have been a more fully featured world rather than a serious of cloned maps.

Until it becomes more plausible to accomplish PvE goals in WvW alone, WvW must remain as a part of PvE map completion for fairness.

Actually my server is utterly dominating the competition at the moment
im on Seafarers Rest which is a quite an active WvW server
We are currently beating Riverside by 260k to 190k and I feel sorry for those servers if there are people currently doing the same thing as me and trying to complete the maps

like you said going in groups is an easy way to complete the map but doing so means you first need to get a big enough group in the map (not easy with ques) and then once you’ve managed that you and your group are taking away multiple places on the map that could be filled with players who want to be there to help the server

it stems back to my point of map completion in WvW not benefiting anyone and if you keep dying you are only helping the enemy server that killed you..

Granted though Pve Is boring once you have completed the map once I agree with that completely
its why im always looking forward to new PvE content
and yes WvW does bring action no denying that but at the same time I could relate WvW to the Champion farms
running around the same areas capturing the same series of outposts..
that is just as boring to me as running around the same Champion events in Frostgorge or Queensdale..

add to that that WvW is a PvP area and personally I do not like PvP gameplay.. on any game for that matter
I like Co-Op multiplayer not PvP multiplayer
also add to that that dedicated Pvp areas are not added to World completion and that only supports my opinion that WvW should not be counted for Map completion either
specially since PvP maps contain unique areas while WvW contains 3 maps that are near perfect clones of one another..

in all fairness I would have less of a problem with this is PvP Pois and Waypoints were added to Map completion as well

If WvW must count for world completion then I agree with those who say that PvP should also count but since it does not I stand by my opinion that WvW which is also PvP content should also not count towards World completion either
that being said I agree that both of those opinions are totally justified even though I obviously support one of them more than the other

Many of us on T1 servers feel the mile long queue could be made drastically shorter by removing map completion from the game.

To keep legendaries legendary you could add an alternate but equally hard way to get WvW segment map completion. Like 3,000 dungeon tokens from each dungeon, or something that would take a month or longer to complete.

Teratus: my advice was to take a few people at non-peak times. As I mentioned in my post, me and my 2 kids completed one whole BL map in about 30 mins on an early Sunday morning. There was just no one around. We weren’t taking anyone’s spot. One person called us cowards for running from a small skirmish, but whatever. We were having fun, and not there to fight. I do plenty of that in peak times with my guild

That’s cool but everytime I have looked at the WvW maps there are always ques
my Server is highly WvW active so rarely there isnt a que for the Borderlands maps and I have not noticed EB without a Que since… well.. ever there is always at elast 50 people quing for it at all times of the day
there is also the case of people who simply do not have access to WvW at certain points of the day
currently I can play anytime of the day although that will be gone starting next Monday since I am starting a course that will only permit me to play afternoons and weekends for the next year at least
so playing in peak times will be my only option..

this is one of the problems the Megaserver will hopefully fix though but still it is a problem that does effect a lot of people
the easier solution is to simply make WvW not count for that 100% marker

WvW is currently the only thing holding me up from map completion. Having stuck my nose in a couple of times…not likely that I will complete the map. Alas…

That said, I am completely okay with the situation as is. For those players who do get into WvW and get map completion…my compliments to you. You deserve the title. If I ever reach the point where I just have to have map completion, for whatever reason, I will just have to suck it up and get into WvW. Until then, I will simply admire those who do.

In WvW you take the gear and items you have from PvE with you in order to take part. Whilst in PvP you are levelled up to 80 and given access to everything you need for free, as opposed to being upscaled based on your gear. This makes the PvP seem like a seperate entity and thus shouldn’t be included in the map completion, whilst WvW keeps that connection to WvW.

Despite how much of a pain in the kitten it was to complete those maps (which I did back in a time when I despised WvW) I don’t think they should be removed from the map completion. I also don’t think PvP should be added to it. I do however agree with what someone posted earlier that Dungeons should count towards it because these things share a link with the PvE part of the game.

Just to point something out: there are many people that only ever want to play WvW because that is the game type they enjoy playing, yet they HAVE to go into PvE to get the maps and mats necessary to get their legendaries and map completion. Is it fair for them to have to do PvE content? Honest question for you OP.

The difference here is that us PvE players are not harassing the WvW players for being in PvE.

PvE players don’t want to be in WvW
WvW players don’t want PvE players in WvW

The only cooperation I got to finish my 100% Explorer was when I said:

“Help me get the last 3 POIs and 2 VP and I’ll leave so you all get another WvW player. Until then I’m sitting here wasting a slot.”

I got a zerg escort to what I had left, I gave them all my siege prints and they told me to GTFO and stay out.

And I have 9 more characters to do this with.

As it makes no sense whatsoever to have a PvP area in a largely PvE achievement, I don’t expect this to ever change. It would then be inconsistent with everything else that doesn’t make sense.

Requiring all portions of the map to be completed to have map completion makes perfect sense. If anything, HotM and dungeons should need to be charted as well.

You obviously don’t understand that pvp and pve define two often distinct populations. That’s OK, so did Anet.

The title stands for itself

honestly I am tired of it
I am not someone who plays WvW content and when I do I find it severely annoying and entirely lacking in entertainment

im just not into PvP

WvW is treated more like PvE than PvP which makes no sense at all considering its PvP content
I am requesting that the Map Completion be removed from the WvW maps so that 100% map completion will be gained once all PvE maps are completed

there is no need to force everyone into WvW to play content we do not like or enjoy and those who do enjoy it are probably sick of us lesser equipped players taking up place on the map.. and nagging people in the chat to help us capture that last Poi or Vista..

its non beneficial for everyone and its annoying for everyone who enjoys WvW and for those of us who absolutely hate WvW
there is nothing fun about running accross a map alone and getting utterly destroyed by 50+ players
not to mention having to complete 3 maps that are pretty much identical..

please just remove WvW maps from world completion
it will benefit everyone in the end whether you are a WvW fan or not

This should’ve always been the case. WvW should never have been required for map completion, and no devs, trying to strongarm me into doing WvW, which I despise, won’t work. I have two level 80s that have mapped everything in the game but WvW, and I guess that’s where they’ll remain stuck forever, because I’m not jumping through your hoops. I found the PVE map WAY more boring to complete than WvW. My third round of completion I ran and got all the waypoints and poi and areas you needed to find as well and doing the odd hearts to level up as I went on all the maps. Then I went back and filled the rest of the hearts and/or any events I needed. It did help change it up enough so I was encouraged to get through the PVE portion. The first time I did the WvW it was OMG but I got it done and it did take a while because I did it here and there as I was doing the PVE maps and not really knowing what I was doing in WvW. Second and third times I ripped right through it. So lot is attitude about what you are doing and let’s face it… How badly do you need it yesterday? I was probably more satisfied the first time even though I had to wait for rotations etc. I found the struggle worth it in the end and certainly more rewarding the first time. But at least I had an idea the second and third times through the WvW parts so it was one heck of a lot easier.

this much has been said by several people in the thread as well

the problem is that WvW is a very competitive area full of elitist players who are really into the content
when hundreds of us PvE guys are running around trying to explore the map we are just wasting player slots on the map thus annoying ourselves when we get mobbed to death multiple times while also annoying the WvW players who are trying to gather people to take a well defended area

I would just like to point out that many of the people saying ‘you need x rank to buy the gift of battle’ are mistaken, despite what the wiki says. Echo this, so hard. I don’t necessarily want to just rip WvW out of map completion (that’s the easy answer), but having to be on at just the right time when there simply isn’t one for many servers means that getting map completion on one character (much less all of them) is practically impossible.
