Hi,

I would just like to ask ArenaNet what a player should do with all these ascended materials: Bloodstone Dust, Dragonite Ore and Emp fragments. I know you are able to refine it into bricks and stars etc, but i already have over 20 bricks of each, and have almost 10000 of each asc material.

Bringing in Mawdrey was great, but i still build up over 2 stacks of bloodstone dust a day. Running dungeons and killing world bosses really racks up the other mats too.

So what are the choices? refine into bricks? or dump? Now i’ve never dumped materials before, but i need to ask Anet, is something likely to use these mats in the near future? i’ve been buying invisible 20 slot bags to store on my alts but they are all full. My bank is almost full. Please advise, as i imagine u never intended for players to dump materials.

Secondly, Having ran Fractals plenty of times, all my 18 alts have ascended rings. I now have an alt who is storing rings because i have no use for them. Does Anet have plans to be able to MF your rings for something? or should i just sell them for 5s?

I know its the age old question, do i hang on in case they become valuable, or do i dump/ sell them?

I say dump what you don’t need, they are raining these mats for players that think it’s too hard to get them.

Since you acquire ascended materials so easily nowadays, I simply destroy them. I see no point in buying extra storage specifically for these things just in case I may one day be able to sell them. I’m just keeping some stacks in case I ever craft ascended gear.

I turn every excess ascended mat into bricks until my collections tab becomes full. The rate of gain Vs use is radically unbalanced right now (although it is still better than a low gain – this at least gives players who play so little a chance at getting mats), but I have learned from experience to never throw things away.

You just never know…

Collection expander is the way to go, if you have the gold. I have mine maxed out to 1,500 and the only problem I have is with empireal stars. The bloodstone dust you can get rid off by using Maudrey. Dragonite ore, I would recommend not disposing of as it used to be quite hard to come about and, only now it is a bit easier.

Refining into ingots has a danger and that is that you use obsidian shards. Obsidian shards seem quite easy to get but, when you start crafting legendaries, you learn how fast it goes away. Same thing with the karma that you need to buy them with.

So, in summary, I recommend you expand at least to 500-750, refine dragonite, use Maudrey for dust and, for now, dispose of stars.

You can stack 250 bricks of each(without a material storage expansion) so I don’t see any advantage to dumping any of the ascended mats before you’ve stacked 250 bricks. You can also revert bricks back to the unrefined form with the Mystic forge. So you could dump the dust after you get 250 bricks.(But I would hang on to a stack of dust as well.)

Yeah i extended mine to 500. I did start making bricks, and used alot of them to craft ascended items, but i still keep getting more than i can use!

I hope the idea about using bloodstone dust in a food happens, and even dragonite ore (i doubt it considering its an Ore lol). I think it’d be nice if u needed 250 Bricks to craft something.

All i want from Anet is some guidance about currently is it worth holding on to, as in they have plans to introduce a sink. Or not until after the new year, in which case i’ll be dumping stacks to free up space.

do NOT refine the ascended mats just to store them.
refining a stack of bloodstone bricks will consume 1,050,000 karma (as much as a legendary) and cost you 37g40s. For all 3, that’s 3 million karma and 112g. If you’re never going to use them, that’s incredibly wasteful.
Now, if you do plan on making an ascended set, refine exactly as much as you’d need and nothing more. After you refine those, you can decide what to do with any excess raw mats.

I agree, this is a problem for me as well, my storage is overfilled with stuff of which I have no idea if I’ll ever need it and there’s more and more stuff coming each day, I have 15 stacks of blade shards, destroyed about 20 stacks already, I still have 10 items alone to craft mawdrey, then I have stuff from the silverwastes to unlock stuff, then I have stuff from drytops to unlock stuff, then I have 20 stacks of dragonite, bloodstone, fragments each – of which I have no idea if they’ll ever be useful again. Even if I had limitless storage, it’s getting really confusing as I carry so much “junk” with me. Please don’t – keep things simple.

I can’t believe people waste storage on this stuff! Just throw it out, its so easy to get if you actually need it.

Yeah. I refine them when I need vision crystals. Otherwise, everything except the full stack in the deposit slot gets fed to Mawdrey or deleted.

And this is why i’ve asked if a dev or Anet person could give us some guidance. I know they don’t design mats that are to be dumped, and there is a huge surplus of asc mats in the game. Mawdrey helped with the bloodstone dust, but then Silverwastes comes along and events and chests galore.

I would hope they will have a sink, maybe for wintersday, all i would like from a dev is a line saying “Within a month or 2, your surplus asc materials will become useful”, or “Currently there are no plans to create additional uses for Dragonite ore or Emp Fragments”

That way at least i can start dumping stock!

the annoying part is that they will keep using the “but there are massive amounts in people’s banks” as a reason not to add something to do with it, but it’s not going anywhere and will only get bigger. They should of had something more from the start, and adding it now would have the same affect as if they had it to begin with. Stop stalling!

It could even be something as simple as an achievement for donations, then open a vendor on wintersday where you can donate stuff to count towards that achievement. ascended mats, blade shards, queen’s gauntlet tickets, all other past LS currencies, other mats, junk, items, etc. could all be donated and count toward the achievement. You could complete the achievement 100 times (like that entropy achievement) and every 1000 value donated gives 1 AP. after the 100 tiers, you get a title: ‘Generous’. you just adjust the value of each thing donated (ascended mats would be 1, blade shard would be 5, an exotic trinket would be 200, jute scrap would be 10, etc.)

Well, there’s a new backpiece coming out with every recent update and preparing that backpiece takes at least 10 bank slots as all of the materials aren’t recognized as crafting materials. I still haven’t decided which one I want to get, so that’s why my slots are overfilled with crap and that’s what annoys me.
Bloodstone dust can be fed to mawdrey 2, imperial fragments are crafting materials for maize balm (not that it is wise to craft that but they get a use and who knows what other use the other stuff will get) – and since one needs so many of these materials to craft one next tier material it’s filling up everything. And that’s what annoys me, plus of course all the mats not recognized as mats.

I think this is a great idea, theres so much of past mats and items i’ve got that i don’t know if its worthwhile holding on to!

Having a donation of asc mats/ previous instead of gold for wintersday would really clear up people’s inventory and banks. Imagine a stack of dragonite ore being the equivalent of a 50s donation like we had to do last year to heal-o-tron.

The way I see it if it’s so easy to get that you’re being flooded with the stuff then it’s safe to throw away. If a new use comes along later you’ll build your supply up just as quickly.

The only way it’d ever be an issue is if they simultaneously added a new use for it and drastically reduced the drop rate, and that seems highly unlikely.

I keep enough of the refined mats to make a full set of ascended armor (which for me is very excessive, I’m not likely to ever need that many at once but I had obsidian to use up) and 250 unrefined, because that’s how many the material tab will hold.

If I need more I can get it easily so there’s no point wasting storage space hanging onto it just in case.

I am now starting to throw away mats as i simply cannot store them. I’m also not sure whether to hold onto ascended rings. I have over 20 stored on 1 char with every other of my alts with ascended rings. It would be nice if Anet made a MF recipe so that by throwing in 4 rings u could get an armour piece or something
