On the loading screen of Frostgorge Sound you can see a Tall Ship with red dots on its square sails on the right side of the picture.
Whenever I go to FS to check out, if Jormag eventually put my pre cursor in his Claw´s lunch box, it reminds me of a Tall Ship that I have been sailing on in 2007.
I was wondering, if the artist who designed that loading screen put that vessel into it as a homage to SV Concordia, which unfortunately sank 3 years ago off the coast of Brazil.
The red dots on the square sails are quite distinctive for a sailing vessel and the SV Concordia had big red acorn leaves on hers.
I also found a picture of SV Concordia that looks just like on the loading screen:

Dunno.. when comparing a photo found on google with the Frostgorge image, I don’t see any similarities at all cough
The attachment didnt go into the original post, so here again the picture of SV Concordia:
That’s a pretty cool find, whether it’s coincidence or not, the resemblance is definitely there.
It’s been shopped? :o
It’s almost as if it was lifted from that photo. A bit of blur effects and viola!

Picture of it if any one is too lazy to not check it out in game or google it to compare.

My mind has been blown.
Wow. That totally looks like the same ship. Great find.

Using and painting over real images is a technique digital artists use, so it’s not surprising to find something like this. They do browse through stuff like google images to find pictures that fit and sometimes get in trouble for using them without permission. Some artists are so lazy they’ll even take an image and just slap their name on it and call it their own, hoping that nobody will find out, since they stole it from somebody that isn’t well known.
Another example of using real images is in the concept art for the Hounds of Balthazar, where they used images of camping fires to create the flame effects. The watermark of the original image can still be seen under the jaw of the hound on the right.
that’s a pretty awesome find there. i never noticed heh.

Thanks for placing both images together, no doubt that shi kitten V Concordia.
Thanks to everybody else as well for the helpful feedback on practices of using googled images in game design and copyright issues.
I dont mean to bring anybody in trouble for copyright infringement but I would still like to know if the artist used the image because s/he simply googled pictures of “sailing ship” or put in that image in it for a sentimental value.
There is a pretty good chance that one of the former students that were sailing on Concordia is working at Anet now.
I recognized the resemblance of both images months ago but never bothered to do the research. One of the reasons why I realized it is because i think the exact same image hangs as a painting on a wall in my mothers house. I think i received it in either 07 or 08 with the yearbooks or in 2010 after she capsized.
Next time I visit mum, I will check it out.
And to the artist, who put Concordia into that loading screen:
That boat has been my home for a year and took me on an incredible journey half-way around the world. You show me an image of a place that doesnt exist anymore and means alot to me everytime I log into Frostgorge sound.
You make my day. Everyday.
I hope I never find my pre cursor and you got my vote for Employee of the Month.

Right under the jaw in the fire it says “The Essex …” which is a remnant from the original image. This image was released before beta, so it sparked a lot of theories to what it meant.

Hah cool, I see it now. Very good eye. Or I am mostly blind, one of those

FYI The Big Red dots are Red Maple Leafs not acorn leafs ROFL the SV Concordia was based out of Lunenburg Nova Scotia, Canada used as a sail training ship for West Island College. The Red Maple Leaf is a symbol of the Canadian Flag. All the same good catch on noticing it.

You´re right, its maple leaves, of course. Probably the only reference to a national flag/symbol in the game.
