question on this, does keyboard macros fall into the category of being banned? I have a g510 keyboard and utilize some of its features, will i be under suspicion and be banned for using its features?

Just saw this thread get bumped – missed it the first time a year ago – thanks all! Lots of great stuff in here. Some stuff already on our backlog, some new stuff we added after checking this out.

i am not sure if that got already suggested here but you know… stuff like the engineer grenade and mortar kit use ground targeting on all attacks including the auto attack, means each time you wanna toss a shell or a few nades out you gotta press the button and i tell you.. this starts to hurt after a while. Any chance to add a feature that allows you to keep attacking where you target by just holding down the button?

Summary of Anet’s policies over the years, GW & GW2: Anything that gives an advantage over other players is against ToS. Effectively, remapping is fine as long as 1 button = 1 action. Anything automated is against the ToS

I really hope that these quality of life changes do come soon. I don’t know about other GW2 players, but I have a disease called Rheumatoid Arthritis. If you have never heard of this, google it, but short version is that my body attacks my own joints. Especially the hands. All the clicking and holding down the mouse buttons really take a toll on my hands. Please, please, please make things easier on your players’ hand health!

I attempted to go for thirst slayer achievement the other day. I had all the karma for it, but I had to stop at 25,000 drink points. My fingers started getting twitches and knew it wasn’t good for me to continue.

Over 100,000 continuous mind-numbing clicks simply can’t be good for your hand. During all those clicks before I stopped, I was thinking to myself ‘why can’t there be a buy-X option’, along with ‘I can see why players resort to changing the way mouse clicks work in order to save their hands’.

I can see why players have to resort to other means, but they shouldn’t have to. Also, who’s to say their account isn’t flagged for suspicious activity (by this I mean that mouse click thing) simply because they don’t want to get RSI? I for one don’t want to risk being falsely flagged for something that would save my hand, so I’ve never done it (and never will, because it’s an advantage over other players that Anet hasn’t confirmed is ok to do), but I also don’t want to get RSI, which is why I’ve simply put the ‘thirst slayer’ achievement on hold until something IS done about it. Because it’s unnecessary for all those clicks, it really is. And there is no glory in the ‘this player destroyed their hand for this title’ achievement. Devotion to getting achievement by destroying their hand perhaps, but certainly no glory. Definitely needs changing.

+1 to “Open all”.
Also, I often find myself rearranging items within an inventory bag because I dislike empty slot gaps, so a “Compact this bag” option would be nice too.

Might just be me but having an option to slow the camera movement down when realigning to follow character on a slider would be nice too. I like to look around a lot while exploring and having to either hold right click or keep dragging it is awful.

I’m personally just utterly baffled why we don’t have context menus for use multiple or buy options for multiples, given how many stacks of consumables you can get (especially luck). They really should have been in the game at launch, like every single other MMO

Great suggestions from the OP, really hoping some of the things suggested will be implemented.
I find concerns about the negative impact of hand health when playing GW2 is a legit one and comes down to some game design flaws.

I’ve been playing games for nearly 10 years without any problems related to hands being strained but one month in GW2 is starting to give me some serious trouble.
The huge difference I notice is that GW2 lacks tools that other game developers have implented to reduce the amount of strain on your hand.
For example, ingame macros use keystrokes for commands instead of mouseclicks and some games support the use of mouseover-macros which further minimizes the strain done to your hands and the stress on your actual mouse aswell.

The amount of loot that is given out in lootbags, which every single one of them requires double-clicking to open them up. After opening up there is more clicking to be done if you want to salvage or sell the items.
Silverwastes, as much as I enjoy the zone, is a serious issue in this regard. Not only the opening of bags and salvaging (for mats that you want/need to craft for!) you are given tons of Pile of Silky Sand, Ambrite, Essence of Luck (which is still putting tons of strain even after crafting them to higher qualities)…etc. The list goes on and the clicking really never ends while playing this game.

Any sort of help or input is appreciated because I find I will have to limit my gaming experience due to not wanting to risk some long-term injury. I’ve already tried the Numpad-trick (Alt + Shift + NumLock and then + on numpad to salvage), and it would work if I wouldn’t have been a leftie (silly…I know) and have to change my primary mousebuttons around, i.e it won’t salvage unless I constantly keep changing the mousebuttons around when I want salvage, consume luck etc.
I’m not really computer savvy so I’m not sure what is really allowed by Anet when it comes to macros or how to even run them so yes, anything that helps me play this game without having to click insane amounts of times during one playsession is very welcome.
I really enjoy this game and want to keep playing it but not on the cost of my hands.

Thanks!

I’d like to see an option to toggle mouse look, instead of having to hold down left/right mouse button to rotate the camera.

Right-click once to activate camera rotation, right-click again to disable. Ground targeted skills could be a problem, but perhaps they could always orient along the camera’s z-axis and moving the mouse away/toward you will adjust the distance of the AoE.

Agreed, I mean this should be pretty much standard in every game….lol

Make it so Anet!

Here are some changes that I think should be done to improve hand health while playing this game:

Crafting improvements:

  • Adding items to the recipe discovery panel and the mystic forge should be simple clicks, not double clicks.
  • Every time a recipe is used for the first time in the Mystic Forge, it should be added to a list, much like with the other crafting panels.

Vendor improvements:

  • Vendors should get spinner number boxes to buy in bulk, instead having to click each time. Of course, it’ll stop automatically if you run out of inventory space, and you won’t be able to set a value to buy higher than you can pay.

Inventory improvements:

  • Stacks of one-time effect consumables like essences of luck and potions of karma, and containers like loot bags should get a right click context menu option to “Open all”. Choosing that option would open a small panel that looks like the bottom half of the crafting window in the crafting panel, with a progress bar and a cancel button, and stopping automatically if the inventory is full.
  • Transferring items between the bank and the inventory should require single clicks from the bank panel. Same with the collections panel.
  • Hidden tabs or closed bags should be ignored when transferring items between the ban and the inventory by clicking them.
  • Empty slots in invisible bags should be the last to be filled by the system (e.g.: Looted items, crafter items, items from loot bags…). If there’s any other empty slot in the inventory, getting an item should put it in hat other slot instead, giving priority to the player to use invisible bag slots.

Salvage improvements

  • An option to bulk salvage would be added. For example, clicking a bag’s icon on the side of the inventory with the salvage cursor would attempt to salvage everything in the bag, as long as the bag isn’t an invisible bag.
  • An option to bypass the salvage confirmation dialog would be added. For example, with Shift+click.

Autoattack improvement

  • When a ground-targeted skill has auto-attack enabled, holding the left mouse button or skill key down should keep the ground target marker visible and attempt to continuously use that skill on the target marker instead having to repeatedly press them.
  • A toggle option could be added. So using the skill once starts autoattacking, and using the skill again stops autoattacking, instead having to holster the weapon to stop.

Autotarget improvement:

Toggleable Ctrl and Alt:

What other features you think could be added to reduce strain in our hands while playing?

I noticed , recently, that the TP is a lot easier to use. Why? You can sell items a lot quicker and you don’t have to scroll back down to the next items you want to sell if they’re close to each other in your inven’.

With 100’s of champ bags, it’s quite a time saver. Feels a bit quicker and smoother too.

I really wish that the recent addition of Consume All button worked on boxes and food, not just the drinks. My RSI has flared up very fierce for the past couple months because of HoT and Festival boxes.

The limited inventory slots is what I figure to be the reason for not adding Consume All to champ bags/chests/etc, but a way to workaround that would be to treat it more like Craft All. Once inventory is filled up, the system stops opening the chests.

Here’s hoping this is relevant enough to the topic to make it worth bumping.

Adding some more ideas on hand health ideas for mystic forge. All this clickety-click hurts our hands a lot:

  • The mystic forge would ignore items in invisible bags. It currently doesn’t.
  • The mystic forge would get a list of recipes learned as they are discovered. Now that we have account recipes, they would be saved account wide like recipes learned from consumables, making the mystic forge a 10th crafting discipline that doesn’t require a discipline slot, but has a list like the rest.
  • Adding and removing items to the discovery slots should require just single clicks, not double. Same for discovery in all the other crafting panels.
  • For simple recipes with fixed ingredients and no ‘variable’ parts, like exotic weapon skins and material promotions, mystic forging would work like a crafting discipline, unlocking a recipe that can be used to craft in bulk if you have the materials. You select the amount, press the craft or craft all buttons, and the station crafts it.
  • For recipes with ingredients that are too varied to have a recipe per variation, (e.g: weapons, runes, amalgamated stones) the unlocked recipes would be most generic variation (e.g: Weapon gamble, armor gamble, rune gamble, sigil gamble, crest gamble, crest/gemstone/doubloon gamble, etc), and they have would instead a “Fill” button on the recipe list. The ‘crafting results’ panel would have a different “Repeat” button.
    • Pressing the “Fill” button would attempt to fill the recipe with items in your inventory, starting with the first matching item in the inventory. For example, if you had several fine, master and rare weapons in your inventory and the first one was a masterwork one, pressing the fill button for the ‘weapons gamble’ recipe would pick first that masterwork weapon and then look for other 4 masterwork weapons, if there are no 4 master weapons, it will pick the next weapon of a different rarity and try again, then the recipe would fail to pick anything if there’s no matches. So by having just the weapons you want to forge (e.g: Just rare greatswords), the Fill button would easily fill the recipe.
  • Pressing the Repeat on the crafting results panel would work a bit differently. It would search your inventory (but not bank and material storage) to try and refill the slots with valid items for a recipe that would have the highest chance of having the same result as the previous one.
    • For example, if you threw 4 exotic greatswords in the mystic forge, the Repeat button will first try to put 4 exotic greatswords, then 4 rare greatswords, then any 4 exotic weapons, then any 4 rare weapons, then give a red warning message tellingyou that it failed to ‘Repeat’ recipe.
    • If you threw 4 rare runes, then hit Repeat, the slots would get filled with another 4 rare runes, then masterwork runes.
    • If you threw 3 crests and a pile of crystalline dust to get amalgamated gemstone, Repeat will try to do the same with more crests, then with just gemstones or just doubloons based on what it finds first in the inventory, then try to mix them up starting with those that appear first in the inventory.

When comparing how many new mouses i had to buy in order to replace the worn out ones i came with those numbers:
GW1 (whole life span): 1 mouse
GW2 (release till present): 3 mouses

Then i thought that stating those facts to anet would be sufficient to help even their village idiot understand that, with that much clicks in their game, Quality Of Life was still a winner compared to the fear of making the life of gold sellers easier, or the desire to make the devs life happier.

But it seems that nowadays you have to finger point everything , hoping that they will look at the moon instead of your finger. Obviously, simply stating “Aim for eliminating any un-necessary extra manipulations from the UI, because it’s so much common sens that it is a recurrent rule hammered in every platform Technical Requirements and Guide Lines” is not good enough.
