Yup Sanctum of Rall server has now beaten Grenth. He isn’t overpowered he is just at hard challenge.

How does one survive the ceiling drop?

Being there on my necromancer, I can say it was a truly awesome feeling even if the fight is borderline unfair. Actually that sort of made defeating him all the sweeter.

You just have to get lucky and watch the animation when he is casting and hope you dodge the correct way.

Or use death shroud to survive.

Very impressive, this guy is a beast now.

Glad we have a fight were its actualy kind of a big deal when a group beets him first

we should have threads like this so we would know where to guest when we want a type of a gear. or someone make a website that records the beaten temples in different servers.

What stats are on the back piece?
I’ve been trying most the night vs Grenth (8 times) and we didn’t win. I tried explaining in /map about portals to get aura to damage Shades, but still few did it. I think some came just to revive after the event failed, for the daily… 0o

A small tip is that shades do take condition damage. While it is far better to just go into the portal to damage them sometimes it isn’t an option so if you have aoe bleeds / epidemic just throw it out there to help all you can. Also staying clumped is asking for a full wipe. Try to stagger spread so only 1/4 of your group dies each time, and don’t forget swiftness for the run back!

twice, I was beating the Veteran, with his accompanying mobs of spectral hammers, that comes up from behind Jones when he reaches Murdered Dreams waypoint, and when I and maybe 2 others finally kill them, we turn to Jones and saw nearly everyone wiped in the middle and Jones surrounded by Shades. /cry

Yes, it’d be great if more would spread out… or not run directly to Grenth ASAP.

I think that spineguard is available at all temples. At least I saw it at Balthazar’s.

In my day we paid 5g for rare pow/vit/toughness backpacks from the guild backpack guy and liked it.

all temple’s (Arah is not a temple) have back pieces (spineguards), but they have different stats.

But…but he’s impossible and deserves a nerf says mostly all the forum people!

Bosses scale in HP (and IIRC Damage) based on players near them. This affects pretty much every monster stronger than a veteran. You may find grenth is easier solo than with a large party. I know back in the day I preferred 3 manning him, as it only spawned like 2 wraiths, which 1 person could np solo while the others were assured to keep grenth away from jonez.

Generally if you are standing far away from him dodging backwards will make sure you won’t be hit. Dodging to the sides is luck based.

For a concentrated group effort I would say :
Stand in a ring around him.
Once he starts rotating his staff in the air turn around and start running
After 2 rotations of the staff (1.5 ish seconds) dodge / shadowstep away.
Replace above with a mesmer portal if you really have good coordination.

Having a couple dedicated ressurectors with either the necro signet or the warrior banner could be useful. As long as you are full hp you should just be put into a downed state (was my experience).
