I want to ask anybody about this new map that i discovered yesterday does anybody ever been here
I called this place Fractals of Mist the Desert of Death

isn’t this just the bug that happens sometimes when you fall in the frctals? it’s supposedly the place where all fractals are (maybe also non implemented ones). Just like ocarina of time was on n64, all the fractals are builded on the same level. Which means that potentially you could go from one to another going “under” the current level.

If it’s not that then well, no idea :O

I fell there once from a fractal and the game ressed me, I could walk around. The pillars are used to mark locations on the fractals which are above in the sky. One of them had “jade” written around it and the jade maw was directly above it (it’s where I fell from).

Here in the background you can see the urban battlefield, from the outside…

I fell from difrent map from flying asura base
Harpy pushed me into the clounds i was falling like 30sec~1min long trought will never gona lend and then i hited the ground LOL

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

I got here when a harpy knocked me off the floating platform in the Uncategorised Fractal. Basically the game bugged out and didn’t put me back up the top, just kept falling until I splattered between some plateau-looking formations.

The Uncategorised Fractal is actually really high up.

The Uncategorised Fractal is actually really high up.

It’s really interesting to think about how large this space is. GW2 has huge draw distance, and all the fractals that are “open” need to be far away from each other so that players don’t see the other ones, even if they fall off.

At the same time I’m kind of sad that I got to see the behind the scenes stuff, it’s harder to get immersed now. :S

I fell down there too. Seems like you can jump down there from the last few floating stones on the last ‘bridge’ to the jade maw platform.

I “do wish” there was a way to die down there, ie even a puddle of lava / water lake / anything so that you don’t waste your fractal run.

Its a big area down there, but not much to see. Would be better if you could die if choose to once down there so fotm party can choose to wipe to checkpoint

This was a weird design decision. Typically you don’t want to load more than is necessary. It just adds time to the loading process and wastes memory that could be used for other things. Front loading all of the areas is more than likely the reason that loading into Fractals from LA is slow, but the time between Fractals is relatively quick.

System wide, they would have more resources available per fractal if the three you would be playing in were chosen in the hub and only those were loaded when you entered the first. Why store information, textures and entities for six fractals that you won’t see?

A potential problem I can see is the eventual growth of the dungeon. With this architecture, the up-front loading time is going to take longer each time they add a fractal, there could eventually be memory issues, and there are some performance costs associated with messaging (but I have no idea how their messaging actually works. It’s not very likely, but possible).

Techniques like front loading all assets, creating all objects , and then hiding them until they are needed are typically reserved for console games since resources are limited and consoles (xbox 360 in particular) hate on-the-fly object instantiation and cleanup. And by hate I mean they are like to start spewing goat blood before imploding in on themselves. PCs get away with the background loading stuff a lot better.

The same thing is done in dungeons, but I can see more of a reason for it. There was a glitch in HoTw that let you complete two paths at once because the entire dungeon and enemies are loaded when you enter. So it was possible to wall glitch and kill two bosses (long since fixed). It makes sense in dungeons since you are effectively playing it before you choose a path. Devs don’t know which path a player will choose so they need to load everything.

Just seems like there would be a more efficient way to handle fractals that would allow for practically infinite growth without a performance hit. But then i’m sure they have their reasons that i’ll never get to know (._.)

Also tell me why when I cross the rope bridge I see things flying around deep in the whole the bridge crosses? I want to know what is at the bottom of the gaping hole, and what is lurking in the Devinities reach sewers.
