The Herald is only available to Heart of Thorns owners. So no you don’t get the complete Revenant by purchasing only Path of Fire.

You sure about that? All I see is that it’s an elite spec for the Revenant that requires Hero points to unlock at level 80. What content in the HoT is required to unlock it?

Edit: just checked my alt account. It does require HoT

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Herald is part of the HoT elite specs. You can’t play Tempest or Daredevil if you do not own HoT, likewise you can’t play Mirage without PoF.

Q: Do I need to own Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™ in order to play Path of Fire?

Owning Heart of Thorns isn’t required to access Path of Fire content. However, some content is exclusive to Heart of Thorns.

You must purchase Heart of Thorns to unlock and use the gliding mastery, as well as all other masteries introduced in and exclusive to that expansion. You will be able to complete all of the content in Path of Fire without the use of any Heart of Thorns-exclusive masteries.
You must purchase Heart of Thorns to unlock and use the 9 elite specializations introduced with that expansion.
Path of Fire includes access to the revenant profession, but not the Herald elite specialization. If you only own Path of Fire, you will be able to create a revenant character and unlock the Renegade elite specialization.
You must purchase Heart of Thorns to claim the new guild hall released in Path of Fire, and access the Scribe crafting discipline to fully upgrade your guild hall.

Fine by me. Almost every single company I can think of that offers a service offers new customers a far better deal than existing customers.

It should also be noted that new players will have to spend to get access to LS2 and 3, whereas most veteran players I expect to have all of those unlocked purely by virtue of logging on when those episodes were active.

This same argument was thrown around non stop when the game went F2P (wah, wah, what about the people who spent money on the base game!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111111111111111111111oneone)

Resident smug Englishman on the NA servers, just because.

Ah, I see.

I went and checked my alt account, and you’re correct. It requires HoT. I expected it to be grandfathered in.

I thought it would be standard to include rev in new expac as well for people who dont have HoT due to the elite spec. Although they should’nt have glint like other HoT specs.

“It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg,” as Thomas Jefferson once said.

I don’t see why anyone would have a problem with it.

I will never understand how people can get upset about other people getting nice things.

When I bought the game on launch, I knew what I was getting and decided it was well worth the price.

When I bought HoT I knew what I was getting and decided it was worth the purchase for me.

That’s all that counts.

Why should I care that people get the base game for free now, or that Rev is included with all further expansions?
If it brings just one person to pick up the game rather than not, that’s good for the game I enjoy playing and therefore good for me.

It’s a player to play with, and money for Anet to pay Devs to make more content with.

What’s not to like.

I already got thousands of hours of entertainment for the full price that I willingly paid and the Devs get to make more content with it that I will continue to enjoy.

I didn’t see the issue when HoT came out (and came with the base game), and I don’t see an issue here.
