Im currently playing the game, and recently had some trouble setting up my small guild to do Guild Events… Being able to post a large “Message of the Day” is GREAT! Dont get me wrong, however some, if not most guildies I know of never pay attention to it. I believe by adding a pop up at the start of you’re gaming showing the “Message of the Day” would not only be beneficial for any size guild, but would add orginization to them as well. As I stated at the start, im currently playing, but nothing to fun sending mail to two people at a time every so often to give them a heads up on making sure to read the text, is not the most efficient way. However it is the best way of making sure guildies dont miss out on something they die to do every weekend. Unfortunately having odd timezones or bad cordination seem to ruin what could be a great oppertunity at becoming a tighter, more social, and overall funner community of people. This way we can all participate in what we would all truly desire, A large guild event, rather than the few you managed to call upon, and those who decided to read the “Message of the Day”. Guild Wars 1 had this feature… I would LOVE for it to come back.

You mean a pop up on screen or in chat? If on the screen then I can totally get behind that. My guild apparently changed mumble servers when I was away for a few days and I didn’t realize it until I saw the new port number in the message of the day. If stuff like that would pop up on the screen the minute you log on then that would be extremely useful/helpful.

Seems like a good idea. Should be added to list of things for Guilds to have.
Guilds need:

  1. Message of the Day
  2. Last online
  3. Guild Halls
  4. GVG
Ranger; Warrior; Mesmer; Elementalist; Guardian; Engineer
[GWAM] and [LUST]

I have a custom pvp server and i get notifications when i log in telling me how many days are left on it, or when it expires, how much time I have until it will be deactivated etc. It pops up in the chat window. It would be amazingly helpful to have the Guild MOTD pop up in exactly the same fashion.

As a guild leader, I don’t know how many times I have had people ask me when Guild missions are or when Guild PvP starts. I can tell them to look at the guild message, but I think that having the MOTD pop up in the chat window when you log in would be a great QoL upgrade.

MOTD should pop up on login or represent in Guild Chat.

It should also pop up on screen for anyone who is logged in when it gets changed.

Make sure whether it pops up or not is something that is selectable by the leader/officer AND blockable by players, too. I know that unless popups were both extremely rare and definitely one-time-only (ie. no repeat once viewed), I’d likely instantly leave any guild that had them.

I definitely would leave a guild that popped up trivial unimportant things like voice server changes, who won the lotto, etc.. Popups are just plain evil and need to be used very sparingly, if ever.

For example, nearly every single instance where the game currently has an “OK” popup that you have to clear to continue playing needs to have that popup removed; eg. overflow announcements and entering the home instance.

OP is on the right track but a popup would only be a band-aid on the core problem here: guilds have little to no in-game tools for setting up events. I lead a small alliance guild on my server and Message of the Day and whispering everyone just doesn’t cut it.

Why is MotD the only place where I can list guild info? I need a separate space for that, preferably on the Main guild tab where everyone can see it. I would also love a Calendar tab where I can post events. It would make things so much easier.

Guilds halls would help this too, particularly if you could get a big signboard and post events to it. Anet, you said you wanted us to self-organize and we’re trying; but you need to give us the in-game tools to do so or it’s going to continue to be an uphill struggle.

I like the spirit of the idea, but that implementation turns me off. Maybe, instead of an obnoxious pop-up as soon as you log in, there can be a little alert button on the guild’s icon like there is for the BLTP and Mail? To remove it, just click on the guild icon and click on whatever guild changed the MotD. Less intrusive, but still gets the job done!

Thats a great idea, honestly. However I still think it would be a great addon to the game to have a pop-up in the chat box, but please note, that I would ONLY like to see it pop-up in gold text (Guild chat). Which can easily be disabled by going to the chat panel and unchecking the guild box. If both you’re idea (honestly never thought about that, but would be amazing) and the chat box pop-up through guild chat were added I gaurantee seeing Guilds running more proficiently, active, and more cordinated. That of course not including the self-sustaining guild community you would build simply because more people logged in and joined in on Guild missions/events/pvp/wvw you name it. Lastly guildies who would otherwise never talk to eachother due to lack of group play, would have a great oppertunity of getting to know one another, thus increasing guild rep, and influence gain, ultimately providing the funds to dish out guild buffs/bonuses on a regular basis.

In GW1 the ‘Message of the Day’ popped up in your chat window as soon as you logged in on a char. It was very efficient and, I’m assuming, would be easy to code for whatever guild you’re representing on that char. Even an option somewhere to turn the function on/off would be nice to go along with it for people that would rather not have the notification. It WAS a very great tool as everyone in the guild would be guarenteed to get the message and for such important ones as TS changes etc could be posted with the heading “Attention:” or something of the sort. This would also be very helpful for new players who’s time/brains are going in a hundred different directions just trying to get used to the game and take it all in. Then again, if we could have so many of the things GW1 did RIGHT, a LOT of things about GW2 would be improved tenfold. So here’s hoping that this doesn’t get swept aside as “Oh, GW2 is it’s own game whiners!” and we get so momentum towards bridging the tremendous gap of things we shouldn’t still be asking for.

I like this idea.

Speaking as a former GW1 player the messages in the chat box in that game where a little too subtle. They were very easy to miss, especially if you logged in to a busy town or outpost where chat was moving quickly.

But a pop-up on screen would be both too obnoxious and too easy to close down without reading, like the overflow message.

A little alert on the guild button is a great compromise. It’s noticeable right away, but also easy to ignore until you’re ready to read the message.
