If living story is consistent, it pretty much becomes permanent content only with more variety. You can expect the temporary dungeons to come back in fractals, so there’s that.

What is so special about this living story content? It’s nothing but a gated quest, they can’t seriously expect to keep people playing this game by waiting 1 month to have another quest where it’s essentially “kill this” or “press f to burn/activate/shock/whatever 500 times”.

They’ve found an efficient monetization scheme: make a small, thematic update, associate it with RNG box rewards, and make money off of gamblers.

Unless the gamblers change their habits, the method won’t change.

You might have to wait for an expansion for the content you want. Sorry.

I think that’s exactly what they’re doing. They are doing the exact same thing as they did in Guild Wars when this game was announced. They put all of their time in making this game, while providing virtually zero content updates to Guild Wars.

I think they’re working on an expansion and having a small team update Guild Wars 2.

I dunno about that but gw1 in 08 was amazing status, a status gw2 will probably never achieve lol. I find it funny how most ppl posting on this forum tell others how much money they’ve spend in gems… i spent 0 dollars and anet is maaaad lol anyway i agree that absolutely nothing worth mentioning was added since November and i’ve been saying this for quite some time

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.

In 2008, that’s when Guild Wars died.

From that point, nothing was really added to the game. You could quit and come back 2 years later, the game would be identical.

@Chase
If you don’t play an RPG for the story, what’s the point of playing an RPG?

Correct me if I’m wrong here, but in the vast majority of MMOs I’ve played (a good 6 or 7 I’d say, generally F2P with the exception of 2 or 3) usually don’t have any form of major content releases until expansions. You want more story in a game like Hellgate London (RIP) or SWTOR, you are gonna be waiting for a long, long time. Anet has been pumping out story related events for a good half of the game’s release time (heck, even the holiday events had a design so that they each had their own mini-stories attached), which is more than a lot of other MMOs can brag about.

Beyond this, everyone hates doing the same thing over and over and over, but then immediately jumps on the “temporary content bad!” bandwagon (I do agree it would be nice to have more content available for newer folks to do). It’s countering itself!

Anet is working on content constantly. I see you leave out the permanent dungeon addition, which carries with it a new set of armor aesthetics (probably weapons too), I see you left out all the class retooling for balance and build diversity, and I also see you left out the new condition to help make condition-based builds more useful. You people have zero patience these days.

Matter in fact, there’s nothing really new except for another living story which I honestly dislike because to me they’re nothing more than quests.

The fact that you dislike it doesn’t change the fact that it’s new content.

There seriously has not been a good patch since November.

That’s an entirely subjective statement. I’m sorry that you’re displeased with the updates made to the game over the past ten months, but just know that your opinion is not universally shared.

OR…

It may very well be that they are the company that has at long last landed the elusive Days of Our Lives Online contract! That would explain everything. Not only would they be busy busy busy building Salem Center and all its surrounding environs, they’re probably making extra sure all the sands are flowing smoothly (and accurately to within .001 of a microsecond) through the hourglasses that will ship with the Collectors Edition Box. So! You gonna roll Clan Brady or Clan DiMera?

The table is a fable.

I personally like the living story.
You might see them as quests (and yes, some activities are just a simple grind), but I like the feeling of new and a small story that goes with it. It makes the world seem different every month.
also you king of left out
Guild Missions
Spvp maps
WvW updates, etc that we got after November.

It’s definitely a problem I’m glad people are starting to see that. It’s not supposed to be this way. They were supposed to be adding permanent content after launch which is what we were promised in their prelaunch interviews and they weren’t supposed to be dungeons.

Now I do like that they are adding these dungeons in these temporary content to the fractals so people can go back and experience these events as part of the lore of the game.

However , this in no way is actually what people were expecting for the open world content updates monthly, and people should not be complacent about it. This past month they got a free pass from those like me because it was actually a revamp of the original Tyria holiday system, but now it’s time for the big boy content. We need more DE’s more meta events and they all need to be permanent and we need them monthly.

Hire some contractors, get some money from NCsoft from the money you’ve already earned we don’t care what you have to do this is what your customers want. It’s not right to keep putting this stuff out there when you should be doing what you said you were going to do.

Unless the gamblers change their habits, the method won’t change.

This is true.

The thing that is so frustrating is that when they started they said they would use the expansion method because it would require them to make quality content to earn their money & keep the standards high.
Instead they just make the majority of the income of gamblers & whales &have smaller-scale distractions & collection quests. It’s certainly not about high quality content.
If I knew there was an expansion in the works, I would consider the living story amazing. But as THIS is their focus & what to expect, it’s meh interspersed with a ok dungeon that has no armor set rewards.

Content can be temporary or not and the same complaints will be made. The reason is that any PvE based content will become repetitive or boring over time. The reason is that it becomes extremely easy once people master it.

If a content is not temporary it is a nice addition to the game world but after a while it becomes easy and then everyone will get bored and want something new (and at the same time rewarding). So the end result is that people will constant want new things to do. Expanding the map will take time since you have to do the art, scripting, reward system, story (how it fits into the lore), and among other things so to say that new maps could easily be added is silly. Remember southsun in November? That place was dead because there wasn’t really any thought that went into the map to make it interesting like rewards, meta events, and things of that nature.

Balance is awesome regardless of what game mode you enjoy the most. Since you want every profession to be valuable in its own way to any group.

This is more or less the situation. It’s sad that so many corporate gimmicks are so transparent and they don’t seem to be aware that consumers aren’t (always) mindless sheep.

I do think the Anet team cares about their game, but they’re probably strangleheld by the corporate overlords in what they do with the game’s development.
