At least one definition of malcontent is someone who is not content. So yeah, if you’re complaining, you’re not content, and therefore you could be classes as malcontent. Admittedly there are other connotations and better words could be used, but it’s not wrong.

It’s inflammatory. Which is why your previous use of the term was removed by the moderators. No one is debating whether the usage matches a definition listed in the dictionary. It’s wrong on the metric that counts: having a decent conversation.

Watch Guild Wars 2 Manifesto, then go in game and play for couple of days, then watch it again, then compare it to GW1, then try guessing why.

Yep that’s why I’m here talking about the problems in the game. I don’t tend to make those one sentence posts tho, usually mine are long.

Some people however do that on the regular and I can understand some of their frustration but at the same time surely they know no one is going to take them seriously when they do things like that.

If you’ve got criticism for the game fine, just present it in a way that the devs will read it. Blasting them with names isn’t going to get anything done honestly.

I agree with the OP in one sense but in another there were promises made and many of them were the key reasons why people like me bought the game, I expect to get what I paid for. Until that happens they’re just going to have to deal with the constructive criticism. The trolls will complain about anything and unfortunately they aren’t going anywhere.

Which is why I said better words could be used. Why disagree when the dictionary does have that definition, after I’ve already said people could choose better words?

It’s not “technically” wrong, but it isn’t the best choice because it has other connotations. Or do you just contradict me because it’s me?

Well, I explained why I responded. I don’t know why you’re taking it personally.

SkylightMoon, may I present to you two proven recipes to lighten your mood, depending on your temper you will find one or the other more effective.

This is number one, for the more energetic types (you will need sound):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgDrJ5Z2rKw

Or and we can all do this together now, for a more laid back version:

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse
When you’re chewing on life’s gristle
Don’t grumble, give a whistle
And this’ll help things turn out for the best

And always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the light side of life

If life seems jolly rotten
There’s something you’ve forgotten
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing
When you’re feeling in the dumps
Don’t be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle, that’s the thing

And always look on the bright side of life
Come on!
Always look on the right side of life

(…)

“Whose Kitten is this?” – “It’s a Charr baby.”
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

You know what, I’m a 90’s child

I’m a 70’s child. Nice to meet you.

I’m a 60’s child, and per killcannon. Paul just qualified for fanboy

I’m a fanboy now? Christ how the hell did that happen. Fanboy of GW1 yes but not this game

per:

Some call them haters, but they are usually just fanboys of something else. Take for example the constant posts about GW1 vs GW2. Most of the originators of those kinds of posts are GW1 fanboys/girls. Or you have WoW fanbots, or insert game name here. It’s not that they hate GW2 per se, but that they hate it compared to other games they really like/love. Most of the back and forth on the forums can be linked to someone being overtly and blindly loyal to a game or form of mechanic somewhere. Mounts, raids, vert progression, dailys, farming, rng, casuals vs hardcore, elitists vs bads…most of this is related to other games or play styles people really enjoy.

The thing is, people are more likely to speak up (ie post on a forum) when they’re dissatisfied than when they are content. That immediately swings the bias towards disgruntled posts rather than yay-happy ones.

Secondly, if 20 years of MMO gaming – and thousands of years of human civilisation – has taught us anything, it should be that making everyone happy all the time is unachievable because different people are different, and like different things. There will always be people who view any change, or any stasis, from diametrically opposed points of view because, well, they’re different. This is in no way unique to GW2, gamers, or anything other subset of people.

And yes, as a survivor of the World of Warcraft forums trust me, it could be a lot, lot worse. Talk about a community that is not just disgruntled, it’s often outright toxic, and deliberately exploits the lack of moderation and mod presence to ‘act up’ on weekends and bank holidays with spam and hate speech posts.

These forums are full of ppl who no longer play and have nothing better to do but to post how bad GW2 may be because there is nothing else for them to do in the gaming world. Even after major games have come out that ppl where saying would be the end of GW2 (mainly going f2p) they still seem to be unable to find any happiness. If find this type of person will only find true happiness in them telling ppl how bad something is and why other should not play it.
The average gamer is 30 ish and depressed about there life etc.. this IS our gaming community they will never be truly happy.
Now the in game community IS the best out there in the online world for gaming we have our trolls but there are very few in number and we have means of keeping them away from the real meat of a lot of events. So they MUST work with other humans and keep there “torlling” down to more of a fun a games type and not the full blow “i am going to make your life bad.”

True to a point but when you have the same ppl wright manifesto on how the game has failed they have stopped talking about the game and more are talking about there skills at writing and as a reviewer. They are taking the focus off the subject and making it more about the reviewer them self.
