So, raids?..
The raiding in gw2 is spamming auto attacks with 50+ other people on sponge bob bosses with virtually zero failure chances. That’s gw2 raiding.

Hardly… this is why:
“Hi, wouldn’t it be nice that cars fly?”
“Cars go on 4 wheels on the ground. That is a car”
“/thread”?
Nope, thread is still open as long as people have ideas and not when someone describes reality as it is today. This is what forums are for, toss opinion and provide new constructive ideas. How things currently are is something everyone who took 30 seconds to post already know (and the reason why they posted).

It’s like I’m really back on the ranger forums again.

No raids thank you. We have enough zerg fests. What makes you think a group of 40 people spamming 1, will be any different to a group of 80 spamming 1?
Also I wouldn’t like to see LFG filled with ‘LF 1 ZERK MES, 39 ZERK WARR! NO GS/AX+MAYS = KIK! NO NUBZ’

should be 38 warr or no lf mez because we have to assume the person creating the lfg is going to be part of it and is one of either those two classes.

Also what is a raid exactly? is it actually just a smaller zerg?

I watched one of those leeroy jenkin video about WVW, ya i think so. 40 players doing a mission?

Ah. Guild Missions. The once-a-week guild-only zerg that takes scant minutes and only a cursory knowledge of the ‘boss’. Don’t forget you’ve gotta be in a guild to get any credit worth your while. Because the pittance you get when you’re not in that guild is kinda an insult.
I’m in a guild that was donig these every week … but even that’s starting to fall apart.
I still need the commendations though so I guess that means I’ll have to find a “once a week” guild that specializes in them and hopefully doesn’t kick me just b/c I’m repping a WvW guild the other 6 days of the week… (which ironically has nothing to spend the Influence on b/c it can’t get its own member to run Guild Missions anymore)

No, its actually kind of the opposite if you considering the interface to see who is and who is not in the raid and organizing groups according to classes to get the best of each group and coordinate different assignments to each group. While a zerg is a mindless swarm that just spams 1.

If you want a good guild for that, I recommend Carnished Toast [Yum] on Tarnished Coast (big surprise, I know). They don’t kick you if you don’t rep ‘em and they’re quite friendly.

There are already games on the market which focus their end-game on raiding. I specifically decided to play GW2 becouse I dont want to get over all the hurdles associated with raiding (like scheduled gameplay, reliance on the squad rather than mostly yourself etc.). I dont say that raiding is a bad system, but some people prefer something else. Why should Arena focus on trying to outperform other established competitors in doing something that those competitors already do well? Let them focus on their philosophy and try to win the crowd which likes that philosophy. For people fond of organized raiding experience, there are other options available. Why not pick one of those?
Thank you for making the distinction between outdoor and instanced raiding.
Ah np, it had to be said. Although I never played DAoC beyond a trial later on, I already had long running subs to both UO and EQ1 at the time, then later long time in SWG as well as player classic/retro servers of the previous two. I did study the DAoC system though, since I have an interest in the development side of things. WoW just wasn’t my cup of tea heh, though I didn’t play vanilla WoW (beyond for four months later) since I had SWG and later EVE among other indie and AAA funded mmo’s.
But as I see it, there are a lot of things that can be fixed by polishing the open world stuff that exists as well as introducing 30 man instanced raids.
Such as for Orr temples which are very raid like, I noticed that at times it’s hard to get enough people involved in the whole chain, since all one needs to do is come in at the last possible moment and hit the last boss a few times and get full loot drop. This encourages players to be lazy, and if the chain should fail by the five doing the chain wile the 50 look on waiting for the last boss to appear, then they just go zerg some other world boss, or three or five of them while they wait to someone to bother with the temple chains.
Now I wouldn’t say to remove that as it is, let them still hit the boss a few times or whatever, but clearly those that added to the chain from point to point should have a greater % of a better drop from success at the end of it all. I mean how often do we spend 30m to over an hour working our way there then 100 people come in at the end and start linking the exotics they got while those that had been there only wound up with a couple rares at best? And those 100 came in from doing three or four world bosses in the time we worked the chain all the way down, or from champs.
I seriously believe that some adjustments could be made to the structure of it all, polish, to avoid this, and at least draw more people into doing the chains rather than just skipping it all and wait for someone else to do 98% of the work. That would seem more raid like anyway, and a % that would possibly drop an account bound ascended armor pc. when they look for ways to introduce them into the game. They need to figure a way to introduce the armor into the game other than how they did with the current weapons anyway, just like they did differently with trinkets, right?
As for instanced raids, I say 30 because that is the size of a commander squad. I know they have been talking about doing something with commander in pve content, what better purpose than to be the raid leader? No need for scaling instanced raids, just set them for 30, like dungeons are for 5 (min 20 can do like less than 5 in dungeons). Commander is the one that starts the instanced raid. Having two commanders even better, since if one quits/DC’s, the other commander inherits the instance rather than it just booting everyone out. Then of course radar map tracking of others in the squad, just like it would be seriously useful for guilds using squads in guild missions.
Then too, add another way to get ascended armor when available, rather than crafting or from fractals. Not saying the only way to get the gear, but certainly one way which would make open world raids and instanced raids to be raid like. Such as another way for such gear being through guild missions or what have you.

First off I’d like to say that I got nothing but love for u dev’s. I think you are probably the most hard working dev’s for any mmo out there. Judging the game from launch to me it felt like this was an almost perfect game everything is perfect sound, graphics, story, gear, pvp, wvw, the size of the maps, the events everything except the bosses, at least most of them. I dunno if the case was that so much time was spent on other things that boss fights took a back seat and that’s why they came so generic and so easy. The bosses released after launch like TA atherblade , Teq revamped and most of the fractals in particular Mai Trin and Thaumanova I love those fights very very good mechanics fun and interesting. I wish it had more fights like those a ton more just cuz I like a challenge and also I like the idea of not being able to have a full zerk team else that fight would be nearly impossible. Maybe the fights were created easy on purpose to please the casual players but you’ve got to understand that there are players out there that want that challenge. Players who want boss fights so difficult that it takes them 50 tries to get as frustrating as it may be but once u beat that boss the sense of accomplishment is more rewarding than anything else.
On the topic though with regards to raids I’d like to see these in the game, let me state my case here. The lag is terrible, sometimes for open world events u get hundreds of people doing the same boss and half the time I cant see what I’m doing and I don’t feel like i really make a difference cuz all I do is spam 1 and hope for the best. If this was an instanced fight however and limited to a group of say 40 or 30 people then there wouldn’t even be lag, I’d be able to participate more and contribute more and feel that sense of accomplishment. Another thing is each world boss has a pre-event, sometimes you’ll have hundreds of people just sitting at where the final boss will spawn whilst only 2 or 3 people do the pre-events. That’s not fair if it was instanced everyone would have to participate in the pre-events and pull their weight leading up to the last boss. I love this game not leaving it cuz as I said everything is perfect except one thing really. Add instanced raids in the game and make it optional so the casual players or whoever else can stick to doing the same bosses they are comfortable with but players like me can still do the raids for the challenge. Make the fights hard and make it so that you’ll need some support type or control type players. In the game there are alot of people who’d be glad to hear that they’re needed even if for 1 fight in a raid that you’d need a support built person.

And yet, you see people downed and defeated all the time in these events. Even in Queensdale players are often downed by the troll. People complained that the Lions Arch events were too easy, even as whole groups were being wiped, and some events were failing more than half the time.
Some people won’t be happy until these events are almost impossible.
If you want traditional raids then find another game.
However, if you like open world single boss fights with 80+ people, then you are in for a treat.
Seven months down the track and they got better for a while but now we’re right back where we were. Round and round we go.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Didn’t realize this was a necro until I logged in to reply and I already had a post in the thread!

You must be joking if you consider guild missions raid content. Its only remotely challenging if you do it in undersized guilds and the rewards are boring.
Well done, apprentice!
