So as of yesterday, playing alts became pretty much impossible if you want to gear them up at your own pace.

“I want the best gear in the game for each of my eight characters and I WANT IT NOW!!!”

/stamps foot

Don’t be absurd. “I want it now” is a far cry from “eight months is too long.”

As someone without a main…as someone who plays five alternate characters equally…I know and have accepted that it is going to take me more time and money to do anything a player with one main character might do. This applies to everything from leveling to crafting to gearing up to stocking up on consumables. If you guys whining about how long it’s going to take to gear your alts in top-tier/near top-tier equipment don’t realize the extra work involved then that’s a YOU problem, not a game problem.

Why it has become a game problem and not a YOU problem is that up until now, if a player wanted to have multiple alts and wanted put in the effort of keeping those alts geared maximally, he or she could. Granted it would take approximately twice as much game time and effort to keep two characters optimized as opposed to one, but it could be done.

Fractals’ daily chests, to which Ascended rings are tied, are character-bound – if you have two characters that you want to equip with rings, you can run two dailies per day per level bracket. Mist Essence collected on one character can be used on another, and spending twice as much time in Fractals maximizes essence gains. Ascended rings and back items, in short, are attainable at the player’s pace, with no penalties for alts.

While previous gear could be attained for multiple characters by multiplying effort, laurel gear cannot. Hence it is a game problem.

Like I said before. You guys are complaining about something that is not even half finished. Anet has said from the start that the changes they made yesterday are only the start of the changes they are making to the achievement system.

In in the next two updates (the ones that are supposed to be equal to a full expansion worth of content) there will be more ways to get laurels and more ways to get ascended gear and hopefully more things to spend them on.

It’s entirely likely that once those updates go live in the next two months we’ll log on and find out that we have a lot more laurels than we did before. The big hint is that they’ve talked about having to tweak the repeatable and unlimited achievements.

Complaining and over reacting for no reason at all.

Please reread the thread before making this rude generalization. I don’t want it handed to me. I want a path that I am able to work down. I am able to work harder than other players, but there is no system in place that will allow me to do so. I WANT to work harder. Thats my end game.

I actually understand your point about being willing to work harder to achieve a result. I used that same argument when it came to the PvP requirements necessary to craft legendary gear, and my willingness to work just as hard, but in a different, non-PvP way, to reach the same goal. Of course, that was shot down by the vocal “PvP is part of the game!” crowd.

But what you are missing here is that if you had the opportunity to put in the extra effort to acquire more laurels per day, so you can outfit all your characters at the same time, then every player should have that opportunity. And what happens then? Those players who run a single character will still be gearing them up faster than you because they are also acquiring more per day.

Even if it required separate characters to redo the dailies for the reward, non-altaholics would just fill up their empty slots with farming toons, none of which will ever leave the starter zones because they are only there to farm laurels — which will all go to the one character who is the player’s main. You’re just never going to win that race without special treatment being afforded to you.

With an equal playing field for every player, you will still never gear up at the same pace as a player dedicated to a single toon.

The only question then remains is how fast players should be able to gather laurels. To accommodate you, it would mean that single toon players would be finishing the gearing up process in what? — a month? Two at the most? All so you can get your stabled decked out within six months?

Sorry, I just can’t buy that. You’ve made a decision to work on multiple characters at the same time instead of focusing all your energy on just one, like some players do. Obviously, you have a rationale for doing so, which probably isn’t all that dissimilar to mine. But expecting that you will be able to flesh them all out at the same pace as a player dedicated to just one, isn’t reasonable.

OP, stop and think about the fact that you admit to having played in a way that you hate in order to obtain items that aren’t really necessary.

This is not having fun or being entertained. This is catering to obsession. Just take a deep breath or twenty and step back to a place where you no longer stress unnecessarily over pixels.

Well Debs, like the OP I am horribly OCD about max stats and having an optimal build.

The point is that:
a) OP is willing to put in 8x time to get laurels for each of his alts
b) Laurels are account bound and are awarded once per daily / monthly

The bottom line is that the OP is saying he should be able to use his extra 7x time to progress to get max stats. Just as a 1 alt-er can get a full ascended set (backpiece, rings, and amulet) in 1 month or less, the OP wants to be able to put 8 months of game time into 1 month to get all his alts the full ascended set.

There was not alot of talk to change the daily to character bound and laurels character bound, this way a person like the OP (and me) can put in more effort and get a linear amount of reward. Sure I still advocate a cap on the daily reward laurel per character, but I don’t advocate the favoring of 1 alt vs multiple when the multiple alt player is putting in more time.

I have 5 level 80s, and a 6th along the way. I don’t have a problem with the way the game handles alts. I actually prefer it to a lot of previous games I’ve played. I focus gear one or two favorites in ascended. Gear is relatively easy, and compared to some other games, even ascended gear and legendary weapons are quick to achieve. I really used to feel a little stressed by the ascended gear, so I get where the OP is coming from, but this game is not a gear treadmill in my opinion simply because compared to most of the games I’ve played (almost all of which were Korean mmorpg) gw2 just feels easy to attain gear. I just don’t see the month wait to get an ascended neck that big of a deal (per character). I don’t plan on quitting the game in the next few months, so these dailies are just an added thing that I’ll get for all characters eventually

as what has been suggested before, laurels could be character bound just like Karma, not account bound. You do a daily for 1 character and that character and only that character gets the laurel from competing that. Then log onto your next character, do the daily and that character and only your character can use that laurel, and so on.

Read the full post before jumping to closeminded conclusions. Or maybe you want to get reported for trolling? To help you out so you dont have to read more than you can handle, here is the important part that makes your answer pointless and non contriobuting to the discussion.

“Who at Anet let this pass through? Sure I wouldnt mind not being able to buy them for pristine relics since they are hoarded already by many players (me included). But they could atleast add laurels as a reward in the 10+ fractals in the daily chest aswell as for each finished daily instance path. And of course up the number you get for a daily from 1 to 5 and monthly from 10 to 50.”

And further down I come with the not too odd suggestion that maybe they should try and set the price at the same level as it costs isnide fractals i.e 10 per ring. There is no reason to require 3x as many tokens of the sort that takes longer to grind compared to the type you get in fractals, which you can get 1 per day, per difficulty scale, per toon.

4 toons = 4 pristine fractal relics per difficulty and a ring costs 10
4 toons = 1 laurel in total per daily, rings cost 35 and neck costs 30.

5 days doing 4 daily fractals will give 1 character 2 rings.
20 days doing 4 daily fractals will give all 4 characters 2 rings each.

20 days of dailies will give you 20 laurels and no necklace. Add the monthly and you will get one in 20 days, if you do a full monthly on the 20th day.

There is no reasonable logic behind this type of itemization options.

If they would lower the cost to 8 as I said earlier and 10 for rings, they should NOT up the daily reward to 5 per daily. However if they keep the cost at 30/35, they should up the reward for daily/month to 5/50.

You seem to be assuming that this will be the only way to get ascended gear, in the long run. This is just for right NOW. There will be more ways, in the future, to get the gear you need.

The partial implementation of the achievement system is sure generating lots of complaints. If I were ANet, I would have waited to roll out the whole system at one time, so people could see the entirety of it before complaining. I expect that, even when the rest of the system is out, there will be some time involved in getting Ascended items.

The GW2 progression system was designed to provide players with things to do and rewards to make doing those things worthwhile. If the rewards are too easy to obtain, players will be on the forums complaining, “There’s nothing to do.” If the rewards take time to obtain, players complain getting them takes too long.

I’d surely hate to be a dev.

You’re making the situation more complicated than it needs to be. A very straightforward solution would be to make dailies completable per-character and make laurels and gear obtained via laurels character-bound rather than account bound.

Altaholics aren’t punished in that they have the option to gear up all of their characters at the same rate (if they’re willing to put in the time) and nobody can exploit laurels with farming toons.

Multiple alts here and I want to love them all equally.

I understand some altoholics are fine with the way things are, but then there is no reason for you to be here and play down the issue for those who care. All of my alts are geared out best as I can, have the looks I want them to have (transmutations, race and faction culturals, unique exotics)

The ascended limited to dailies/monthlies is really frustrating so I hope there will be addresses to this issue soon.

No one here is asking for free stuff for our alts, I’m sure we’re all fine with putting in more effort to gear up our alts. But laurels are being artificially limited and is pretty horrible as it is.

Pretty much my way of reasoning too.

The game started out really great with no holding back when it came to multiple toons and progression. It worked all the way up until this patch.
