It’s a lot of work to get most of the ascended backpieces, and it’s really annoying when you realize that you need a different stat set. Some of them also lack good stat selections to begin with. Making a whole other backpiece just to have different stats is way too much. Please give us a way to change the stats on them as we can for weapons and armor.

I would love to see other ways than infusing backpacks to get a reroll on stat selection.

Until then, best way to get a new one is the LW S3 maps. They have a lot of stat variations to choose from:

I need to reset Mawdrey and my Fractal Capacitor. Already infused for fractal use.

Oh wow! Thanks for the hint. Do you know if similar items exist for the Icebrood and Lava Skull backpacks? If not, I hope they’ll add them soon.

But right now, I’ll definitely go for the Bloodstone backpack instead of the others.

Bloodstone items are the only ones with the stat reset (there is also a resettable ring and amulet available).

Just be aware that you lose anything socketed (infusions/upgrades/etc) if you do the reset.

You get a “free” ascended backpiece like once a week if you farm berries.

Or just get the pvp legendary and change your stats every 4 seconds. Even the worst player ever can get it; it’s just a time commitment of 3 games a day until you’re done.

Well, thinking about it, the bloodstone thing is actually like a legendary one. It only costs 100 Unbound Magic to change stats, that’s basically for free. It’s just a little bit more hassle because you might have to remove the infusion(s) first.

I can see why ArenaNet shouldn’t allow easy and cheap stat swaps on ascended gear.

They fixed that a while ago … did they break it more recently?

I believe that losing socketed items is the intended behavior, based on the ArenaNet-written note attached in game to the Capacitor item.

On the other hand Spinal Blades always had "NOTE: Cannot be used in the Mystic Forge if transmuted. " despite never being entirely true. The change to the capacitor happened around 6 months ago.
