The updated daily system has been out for a few days and the majority of us have gotten the general feel for what it’s like. There have also been many complaints from some players for various reasons.

A couple of the prominent complaints are:

  • Difficulty to do zone-specific events due to number of players also trying to do them.
  • Achievements cannot be gotten naturally and often have players hop to various locations in Tyria to complete them.

Suggestion #1

Randomize achievements across players so not everyone has the same ones. You can randomly assign players into achievement groups so that this way players are not struggling to get credit, or to find, events in a specific zone. Maybe four variations of achievement allocation in any given day would be enough? This has been done partially with monthly achievements as some accounts have had to do fractals while others have not had to.

Suggestion #2

Group all achievements so that they can be completed in a specific zone. The purpose of having players go to specific areas would be fulfilled while also not allowing players to feel like they have to hop all over the map to do their daily. You’d be altering their normal routine by having them play on a specific map that day.

Some zone specific daily achievements could be:

  • Champions whether generic or specific
  • Jumping Puzzles
  • Mini dungeons
  • Explorable/Story Dungeons
  • World boss

One other suggestion that I want to make is that if a champion or world boss is included, it must not be one from an event chain that can easily be broken. I’m looking at Ogre Wars and the Dredge Commissar specifically.

I believe that these two changes would be a decent compromise between the old system and the new. Players that for whatever reason want to focus on PvE achievements only will not feel like they’re doing a chore while also getting them out into specific zones.

Example:

  • Complete 5 events in Diessa Plateau
  • Gather from 10 ore nodes in Ascalon
  • Complete a jumping puzzle in Diessa Plateau
  • Defeat Rhendak the Crazed

Suggestion #3

Make the event achievements region-wide but require 10-15 to be completed. Include Heart quests this way it encourages players to do map completion.

Good suggestions OP. I hope ANet reads and this doesn’t fall off the front page of the forum in a couple of hours (or less). I like the new system and its rewards but it does need tweaking.

Suggestion 1: Rotating the dailies among different people can cause it’s own problems though. Let’s say 2 people always do dailies together. With your proposed rotation one person could be sent off to kryta and the other to maguuma (for example). I can see this causing it’s own set of valid complaints.

I like suggestion 2 the best. Spreads people out while not separating groups. Minimizes map hopping while at the same time gets people into different maps.

There are way too many people trying to do the events at one time. I have fully traited levels 80s with a mix of exotic and ascended gear. I find myself in an odd position where I have to simultaneously rush to hit a mob and get credit while holding back so I don’t melt the mobs and deny others credit. Having a few people with you to do an event is fun. It’s not really fun when it’s a huge crowd chasing after a handful of mobs.

My main issue with these specific dailies is needing to do 3 for the 10 AP reward.
Either more daily choices or less specific daily choices.

OR

Remove the 10AP Dailies reward and instead give (1 or) 2 (or 3) AP per Daily (with max of 10AP per day)
That would feel more like GW1 Zaishen missions.

Your issue is resolved with my second suggestion as you can do all of this while playing in a specific zone. Adding more choices will bring us back to the previous system deviating from their intention at having players experience various areas of the game. You’d still have to change your play style but at least you’d be able to play naturally within a zone rather than hop maps.

I like the OP’s second suggestion.(I like to do my dailies with friends, so I’d rather not have the first option.)
But I think a simpler solution is to just make everything region specific,(Ascalon, Kryta, Maguuma, etc…) instead of map specific,(Queensdale, Iron Marches, Plains of Ashford, etc…) And for World Bosses, champions, etc… make it any World Boss, or any champion. Anet has made this needlessly complex and restrictive. And not even given us a reason why.

+1 for thread support

  1. was an idea I posted earlier, though my topic may have been a tad snarky. I think it would work quite well.
I wouldn’t be upset if #2 were paired with it, but I don’t mind waypointing around the map to get them done. Doing 3 achievements instead of 5+ already saves me a ton of time.

Maybe the complaint is they don’t really want to play together? :P I dunno, I’m being sassy. Personally, I wouldn’t mind doing one set of dailies then helping my friend, or vice-versa.
Couldn’t be any worse than the trait system for making divisive play. Just sayin’. >_>

Snark aside, doing my part to see some of these ideas staying on the top page for the devs.

I like both ideas. I’d even go a step further and do something similar for WvW and PvP as possible, like if you roll a keep-centric daily for WvW, add another one (attack/defend together, for example).

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

I think a way to divide the dailies is to use their home server. servers 1, 2, 3 have group A dailes, while 4, 5, 6 have group B, etc.

I’m against going further and making them region specific as that detracts from Anet’s goal of getting people to go to various areas of the game and brings us even closer to the old system. I believe this is why they introduced zone-specific events achievements with this update. They want players to go to other areas of the game which are often neglected. Targeting a specific zone for the entire daily, rather than just a specific avhievement, is probably a better approach.

We’re not going to have things be like they were before the update. We’re also going to have to understand that Anet is using the daily to get players to try out other areas. This was why I made the suggestions as I felt they were an equitable compromise.

Randomize achievements across players so not everyone has the same ones.

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it alleviates the crowding in zones, but on the other it discourages organized guild groups from knocking out their dailies together.

Although I have never done dailies with guildies, you do bring up a good point.

Yeah. It’s was all that I could think of at the time. How many people do work on their dailies together? If that suggestion is considered, it may come down to how many would benefit from it versus those it wouldn’t. Maybe only have two variations on a given day may still alleviate map congestion while giving players a greater chance of doing dailies with their friends.

Nice suggestions. While I like the new system your suggestions would improve it even more. But as one of the posters here already suggested: If you randomize dailies don’t do it by account. Do it by server (for example: four different sets of dailies, Deso, Gandara and some others get the first set, Seafarers, Far Shiverpeaks etc. get the second set and so on). The probability is very large that friends are playing on the same server, so that they share the same set of dailies.

Oh, and 5 or 6 dailies per game mode (instead of now 4) would not hurt either.

I like your suggestions, especially #2.

Thinking in a more general fashion, or for those rare AP hunters who don’t have level 80 characters, perhaps tying the dailies to a region, instead of a specific map? It also helps open variety. For example, if the dailies were assigned to Queensdale, asking for a JP complete means “Do Demon Grub Pits.”

Map-specific dailies that require events have also led to the problem we’re having in Caledon today and Queensdale a few days ago: saturation of down-leveled 80’s wiping events in seconds.

Seconded on adding a few dailies per game mode as well.

So long as the new dailies added are zone-specific, I see no issue. I’m still hesitant about additional dailies though.

Any ideas how to resolve the issue I attempted to fix with the first suggestion other than doing region-specific daily events?

I like the zone grouping idea. Not like its difficult to do the dailies now, but having to warp around to 4 different zones for each one makes it a chore.

Only downside is it would flood those zones and people trying to do something else would have a hard time. Imagine trying to get a guild teq run or missions in one zone when every map has 100 people doing dailies. Though im sure someone can come up with a solution for that.

Another idea that I just thought of regarding the event issue is to make them region-wide but with a catch. The catch is that you now much do 10-15 events and Hearts now count. This gets people to explore and work on map completion.

I’d be fine with the dailies being regional instead of zone-specific. I don’t overly care if they’re in the same region.
Just give me a way to actually do the event chains. :\ I was in Fields of Ruin last night, and none of the usual events spawned. So instead, I went to WvW (which I don’t like), and ran (and ran and wished I had a mount) until I could finally catch up with a tower capture that was going on in a borderland.
So, to get my daily, I spent most of my time doing next to nothing. Not fun.

Just wanted to point out that if the dailies were directing players to complete Jumping Puzzles and Mini-Dungeons in specific zones, it would ruin the JP or MD.

There is already enough people complaining that there are too many people in the zone to do an event, imagine what it would be like having all those people trying to do the same JP’s. It would be impossible to see any of the jumps, or it would be just pointless mass skipping of JP via mesmer portal.

Likewise, the fun of the mini dungeon is actually ‘doing’ the mini-dungeon, not instantly getting the chest and daily, just by running through an empty area, where everything is already dead, and every puzzle is already completed.

JP’s and MD’s are the one place you don’t want targetted by the zerg.

It would not ruin them. The majority of them are fairly empty as it is as people have no desire to do them. Whether people gets ports are not is irrelevant as that’s the personal preference of the players and not indicative that the JP or MD would be ruined. One could also use your argument against the old monthly JP achievement as people could just get ported for all of them or for the gold badge one in SIlverwastes.

I totally disagree with pretty much everything you just said.

People don’t have ‘no desire to do JP’s and MD’s, there are plenty of people who enjoy that content. ‘you’ might not have a desire, but you don’t speak for everyone. IMO (and I’m sure others too) JP’s and MD’s are far more fun when actually completed rather than skipped, so ‘fairly empty’ is good, that’s what you want.

As for your edit, “Complete any 12 jumping puzzles, anywhere in the game, over the course of a month”, is vastly different to “Complete a JP in a very specific zone, on a specific day”.

Really? Do you see people consistently doing jumping puzzles when it’s not for an achievement? Do you sit down one day and go “Hey! I think that I’m going to do the orb collection JP in Malchor’s just for fun!”? The loot is terrible and often not worth the effort. You’ll likely see less people doing jumping puzzles than before now that there’s no monthly for it anymore. My statement was also a generalized one and of course there are always exception but I asked that was obvious.

People will always find the easiest way to do something that requires the least effort. This happens with all content. You cannot judge something as being good or bad based on people who are lazy.

You also missed the point about my monthly JP achievement statement that I had edited in. I suggest reading it again and understanding what it was that I was talking about when I mentioned it. Here’s a hint: it had nothing to do with the argument about daily JP.
