[Suggestion] Targeting in action cam

I love action camera. The movement feels much freer, the targeting more intuitive, and m hand less cramped from holding down RMB. However, in a few cases its targeting feels incredibly subpar compared to the normal camera.

Basically, even if you “lock” a target with RMB, the target is not actually locked; rather, it seems to just create a larger radius wherein activating a skill will select a different target. This is annoying in a few specific circumstances and leads to non-intuitive behavior for some skills.

One example is the skill Phase Traversal for Shiro revenant. With the normal camera, locking a target that is out of range will still cause the skill to bring you towards the target. With action camera, however, one gets the message “You must have an enemy targeted to use that skill.”

Other movement skills, such as guardian’s Judge’s Intervention, have a slightly different behavior (I believe it was mentioned that it and other similar shadowsteps were given manual exemptions). For JI, the behavior in and out of action cam is the same—you will shadowstep the full 1200 units of the skill towards the target if it is out of range. However, this only works if the target is within your crosshairs—if not, the skill acts as if you have no target (activates its AOE effect, but doesn’t shadowstep). This is an issue in PvP especially, where JI is often used to port to team-targeted enemies within the Kyhlo clocktower, for example.

I’ve grown to like action camera and I don’t want to have to stop using it, but this behavior is incredibly irritating, especially when on a class like revenant where a lot of skills require a target to activate.

My request: make lock target behave the same as its non-action cam counterpart, or provide some means of making it do so (a menu checkbox? A double right click?). If a separate mode, taking a party member’s target with T should definitely use said mode if possible.

TL;DR—action camera is nice but it messes up shadowsteps and other skills. Please fix by making a true “lock target” for action cam.

Sorry if this has been brought up before, searching is hard, yada yada.

I agree, that’s ultimately why I’m not using it that often, especially in “important” content.
The whole feature is neat and great but lack this little targetting thingy
