Hello! I searched for this topic and didn’t find any posts. My apologies if I’m repeating a suggestion.

Can you please add the option to turn off/on the gliding and speed boosts gained from mastery points? I love the new skills and boosts, but they are making jumping puzzles very difficult. There are times when the gliding helps, of course, but very often times, I go to make some precise jumps and accidentally start gliding — which means falling and starting over (Example: Lion’s Arch Troll’s Revenge). Very frustrating! The speed boost also throws off jumping puzzles in town.

An on/off switch would be great. Even better: the ability to key bind on and off (to toggle these skills on and off without having to open up the options panel).

Thank you!

The gliding comes from holding down the jump/glide key while jumping. Need to learn to quick tap it instead (which I’m still learning to do).

Speed boost only affects you in cities.

I agree with this. Yes, I know just tapping the jump key doesn’t open the glider and I’m slowly learning to do that, but why not a simple toggle as well to turn off the glider at will? Just another little QoL that doesn’t hurt anyone who doesn’t want to use it.

I could agree with a keybind option. I wouldn’t use it personally but the option is always nice.

And BTW, there are very few, if any, no-fly zones in LA/Troll’s Revenge. Gliding can get you back into the middle of the JP after a fall with very little effort. A couple nice shortcuts too.

Can someone explain a logical reason why you would ever hold down the jump key (without gliding)?

I never did it because it’s just useless key pressing which doesn’t do anything and delays your next jump because you need to release the key first to press it again.

I don’t even understand how you can get a habit like this because it’s just extra strain on your thumb when holding the key.

I spend most of my time in jumping puzzles helping others. I can’t agree more on this request. There were several posts about this but mostly with an rather unfortunate title, so i guess they were deleted. I’m hoping this finds it’s way to the ear of the developers.

If you spend hours and hours in JPs you will understand. For now: take it as a personel preference, but since this mechanic DO ruin jumping attempts (kinda like the double tap roll) there should be an option to deactivate the automatic glider deployment.

I don’t know why you word it like there’s something abnormal about it but if you want some reasons I’ll tell you mine:

Firstly, I grew up playing computer games where holding down the jump key determines how far you jump and many games still do. It makes no difference in gw2 but, until now, it also didn’t matter and it’s mentally easier to keep to one method across the most games.

Secondly, when you’re making a difficult jump in a jp, pressing and holding down forward+jump is simpler than pressing forward+jump, then releasing jump. The latter takes an extra mental tick. I got into the habit of holding and releasing both together and it’s served me well. But times change and now I’m learning to just tap the jump key.

Incidentally, I also use the Shift key for jumping (pressed with my little finger) rather than tapping the spacebar with my thumb. I’ve always found the spacebar to be clumsy, or my thumb is clumsy. One or the other.

Yeah I would like the ability to turn off speedboost in town and gliders when doing jumping puzzles from masteries because it does make it terrible at times.. =(

An option would be nice. I am trying to get the last candle in the hidden garden and every time I am near to the final branch and try to jump I glide over it. If I just tap the space bar (and, yeah I probably don’t have the touch down yet) I glide right over the target. It is really frustrating to be so close and not be able to get there after over a dozen tries.

As soon as they mentioned gliding in Central Tyria, I was hoping we would have a way to toggle gliding on and off. I am one of those people who holds down the space bar when jumping and as much as I try to mentally prepare not to do it, I still inadvertently open my glider in jumping puzzles.

I’m one of those hold the space bar down people too. It makes harder to do the Jumping puzzles. Please fix this ANET.
