I might actually buy those silly things if you were able to use them on all your characters simultaneously.

Since you can only play 1 character at the time how hard is it to bank the tools and take em out with the new one you log in with?

Very hard actually.

very easy actually,

although i dont do it myself (I still have frostbitten tools im trying to use up on char’s) i do end up at a bank before i log off of a character virtually every single time (to deposit tomes, and other things that waste space on a character)

You guys forget, Bunny Ears were Town Clothing. They were never an armor skin for you to purchase. Now that they scrapped the whole Town Clothing feature, and turned most Town Clothing into Tonics, a lot of those old items are unavailable now.

In order for them to “come back”, they would have to make a new version of them.

You mean like this one?

Add some armor/Weapon skins that are of a darker flavor.

Think skulls and demons, red gems and black chrome…without making them look like they are related to plants.

I would like to see some darker, more gritty outfits/skins… stuff that make my warrior look mean and kitten, and not like rainbow bright… stuffed animal backpacks, the legendary pistol, short bow and the staff are the antitheses of what I’d like to see.

Quite a few of these on the way, but you probably expected as much. Stay tuned.

Easy but annoying. Especially if you are not in the habit of looking at your tools before going adventuring. While I would not go so far as to buy a complete set of those tools for what will be 9 characters next week I would certainly pay a bit more if they worked all the time, no matter what character. You can only be logged in once, so it would not be like they would be in use more than once at a time.

edit: Think of it like a mini. Multiple characters can have the same one but they are not on at the same time anyway.

It is much more convenient to just buy the limited use node harvesters, they cost next to nothing and I tend to replace them before they drop below 25 uses so I rarely find myself at a Rich Node and unable to do anything about it.

Transferring the unlimited use harvesters is literally a larger hassle for me then using the ones you can get from vendors at every camp. At ten bucks a pop it is hardly justifiable for me to make the purchase.

Having to transfer infinite gathering tools between characters is one reason I haven’t picked one up. They’re convenience items, and that’s just not convenient enough, since I don’t already end/start play sessions at a bank most of the time. That might sound lazy to some people, but they’re convenience items. Laziness is kinda the point. (Along with flashiness.)

The other is just the cost. At 1000 gems each, that’s 129 gold (if I trade cash for gold) or 209 gold (if I were going to trade gold for gems,) per tool. That’s 3,223 ( or 5,235) Orichalcum picks (4s/each). If I use one pick per day, which is more than I’ll ever use since I’m not a heavy farmer, that’s nearly 9–14 years before I’ll break even. So, for me, it’s not convenient, and it doesn’t make financial sense.

Watchwork tools, on the other hand…If you get one sprocket (~3s) every 3 swings, roughly, you might stand a chance of making your money back. An Oricalcum pick has 100 charges, so that’s ~33 sprockets (1 gold) for every mining pick you don’t have to buy, plus 4 silver saved on the pick itself. If you use one pick a day (still way more than I can do,) you’d make back your original 209 gold in about 201 days, assuming the value of sprockets doesn’t change. You can recalculate from there based on your farming routine: If you use a whole pick every 4 days, it’s 2.2 years. If you use a pick every week, that’s 3.8 years. Whether a watchwork mining tool pays for itself really depends on how much you use it, the (ASSUMED) steady price of sprockets, and whether you paid cash for it or converted from gold to gems.

Edit:
Ori. Sickles only have 50 charges instead of 100, so you’ll be making 1g8s per ori. sickle you don’t buy because you have the watchwork one, instead of 1g4s. Most of your profit is still coming from sprockets, of course, not money saved on sickles.

Suggestion

A shop Advance Starter pack for people who are just started gw2 ( or at least missed some events or don’t want to farm for specific items nor story paths ) which includes:

-Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic ( 800 gems on store )
-Mawdrey II ( or the same item with different name )
-Star of Gratitude ( or the same item with different name )
-Princess ( or the same item with different name )

Salvage-o-Matic is a Must for all gw2 players ( probably the best shop item, needed to save time and inventory space ), and the ascended mats eaters are also a must to convert sometimes useless currency into a bit of something ( or at least to making up some space ).

Price could be 2000 gems ( 800 + 400 + 400+ 400 ), and maybe a discount to 1600.

Are you aware how much rage/lashback there’d be if they included such items (like) Mawdrey II/ Star of Gratitude/ Princess in a gemstore bundle package; while thousands of other people (likely more) had to actually work (grind) to make theirs or put in the time to get it? A lot.

Many people would look at it as another freebie or shortcut for new players. Enticing new players is not always bad. Just giving them for free or little effort that so many other people had to invest time into getting/acquiring is.

They could simply reintroduce ways to get them. But bringing them back via gemstore? I’d pass as I’m sure some other people would. As for the Salvage tools, they’ll usually return if they were to ever be removed.

I’m sure you’d hate to see your time and investments devalued in a similar way as well.

Or perhaps we can just give away everything in the game until everything has no meaning at all.

I’ll just leave this quote here.

Nope, that’s why i play gw2 ( cause nothing counts in terms of game ).

The 4 items are just something to give you less trouble with exping, opening chests, dungeoning ( with the new system ) and more.

I’ll try make it short:

-Mawdrey II. People doesn’t not necessary needs the ascended backpack, but a way to salvage ascended mats.
-Star of Gratitude. As before, but you have to wait till xmas. You understand it’s not a matter of playing time, but wait months.
-Princess. Is the only one that could be done easy with a hunting game ( with videos maybe ). As the 2 items, needed to salvage.

Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic, as said, it’s the best gw2 item ( i consider it a must. i can’t play without it ).

If people are gonna whine about a salvage tool, simply ANET should not listen to em.

I understand other things, like:

-Have standard prices ( with no speculation ) for skins, to get the aesthetic appearance you want without gathering ten thousand golds.
-a way faster to get Achievements skins ( think about new players, and sets still not complete or that needs an infinite achievements points. and the daily limit )

Or things like these, but i think now the four items are part of the game, and everybody should have a chance to get em with no farm or seasonal waiting.

ps: i got em all. that’s why when i see a noob player who can’t salvage i feel sorry for him and i would be happy if a way to “instabuy” em would exist.

edit: many ppl are addicted cause old mmo, and standard mmo mentality. They need to farm stats, get more items/skins than other people, and don’t want that new players have what they have. I understand that sickness, but i also understand that is totally wrong. And Devs should not feed em, but instead helping em detoxify themselves.

Season passes for unlocking certain dungeons and PvP tracks. Because they’d be the best farming zones (and fun too) and contain exclusive rewards Anet would basically have a license to print money as long as the passes are reasonably priced (maybe 1,000 gems for a month access?) You would have spark monsters for example that would have 1/4th less HP and armor than level 80 sparks in the actual game and drop rates for rare materials drastically improved and all humanoids are guaranteed to drop random rags for salvaging (despite being level 80 they’d drop everything from jute to gossamer rags all with the same drop rate). If enough people are there then they all become vets and elites with rising drop rate. There would also be lower leveled rooms with the passes for leveling.

  • More “Mature” town clothes

I am sick and tired of seeing lingerie in video games. There’s nothing “mature” about wearing your underpants around town, and don’t get me started on what the concept has done to TERA.

One of the most attractive aspects of GW2 to me is how it really tones down the sexuality that you see rampant in other games. Yes, I realize Mesmer females start in a skirt so short you can’t even call it a skirt, but if that’s the worst that’s I’ve gotta see, I can live with that.

At least it’s not some race that looks like a little kid “dressed up” in a bustier and thong panties. That only appeals to people like Jared Fogle – and we just don’t need that type in MMOs. -Sid

Consider what it means from ANet’s point of view; they’d make extra money effectively or reduce the number of gems in the game by selling half-baked and badly-designed/grindy content and letting people skip by the toll to enjoy the actual game. I would only support this type of pack for pvp-only players. This way they could purchase the elites specs for pvp play without necessarily buying the additional content they’d never play. GW1 had similar pvp-only packs that could be purchased, to gain access to skills and such from expansions (example: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Skill_Unlock_Pack).

Additionally, it would need to be limited to a cash purchase in some way. No gold to gems. But that’s just my opinion on it.

Full elite unlock- 4000 gems

You’re welcome devs and players for this awesome idea!!!

Something a bit more balanced and realistic would be 100 gems for a Hero Challenge Tome of [HoT map name here]. The tome would unlock a random hero challenge point on the map. These items have already been coded for WvW so creating a gem store tome to accomplish the same thing would be trivial.

$10 = 800 gems = 80 hero points
$20 = 1600 gems = 160 hero points

$50 = 4000 gems = 400 hero points

Considering how many players will want to roll a Reveneant and NOT go core game map competition on him this is an easy cash grab for ArenaNet. We’re all so upset over the cost of Elite Spec unlock we’d be thankful for them to take our money to let us have the Elite Spec unlocked for $50 at this point.

Doing this would be in-line with the original manifesto of keeping GW2 causal friendly. It will also help eliminate the grind for hero points. ’

Reasons why my suggestion is good

  • Utilizes existing code for it’s unlock mechanic, creating a gem store counterpart to an existing in-game item should be a very trivial task for the developers to get this in the gem store immediately
  • Scales to meet players hero point needs so it aids all players willing to pull out the mastercard. Doesn’t matter if you need 100 hero points or 400 this system would give you an option to buy vs grind which again was part of the original GW2 manifesto to keep the game accessible to those who have a life outside he game.
  • Gives ArenaNet a simple way to turn this problem so many are complaining about into an immediate strong revenue stream (some players will shell out $50 for the 400 hero points, essentially buying the game twice)
  • All the rage in these threads helps ArenaNet justify the gem store items. If people scream “what I’m having to pay for the game over again” ArenaNet can simply point out the new items are a way for more casual players to obtain what those who did map competition worked so hard to get right away. They can point back to these forums as their reasoning and be off the hook entirely.

It is a win-win

This is the point of disagreement that divides player son this issue. Some of you really believe the Elite Spec is something that should be worked for and essentially gifted at or near the end of HoT for players who have no pre expansion hero point prep. Some of us believe the Elite Specification should be a feature of the expanshion and it’s play mechanic a major part of our play experience though the game not some near end game reward for our hard work. The elite skins and weapon mods you should have to work for and can come near end game. The core play mechanics of the Elite spec you should not hsve to work though 70% of the expansion just be able to have full trait unlock so you can make a viable build.

There are things you work for in games (Mastery’s already gives us those) and there are things you should be given as part of the new play mechanics to make the expansion feel new. Elite Specs fall into the later category.

sigh

PvP only players (typically) dont care about new zones. New story. New raids. They only care about what they get in pvp, which amounts to the new mode (stronghold), it’s associated heroes (ossa, nika, etc), reward tracks, and elite specs. Some of that requires the xpac purchase (new reward tracks, nika track, w/e the other mist hero track, elite specs) some of it doesn’t (stronghold in general, ossa). As such, some pvp players didn’t feel it was worth spending $50 for basically just elite specs. So those players didn’t purchase the expansion.

Offering them the ability to purchase just the elite spec for say $5 each (unlocks a specific class elite for pvp only) would be a way for anet to get some of those people to still spend money.

Like I said, it would be similar to pvp unlock packs from the original game. It’s just a nice quality of life for the competitive scene.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Do you seriously give an elite specialization unlock the Same Value of the whole expansion ?

I understand wanting the full spectrum of elite spec abilities because I too want this. My reasoning is that HoT is a fresh beginning for character progression and entering the jungle is much like starting a new character: instead of levels we have masteries and instead of specs we have elite specs. Just like when the game was released, there was no easy way to get immediately to level 80 and have a fully exotic-outfitted character to play through GW2 with.

I would argue that HoT is designed to help progress characters and that building an elite spec is part of character progression. Just as you couldn’t walk out of the human starter instance as a level 80 with full access to skills and traits at the beginning of GW2, so too you cannot walk out of the Silverwastes starter map into Verdant Brink with a fully powered elite spec. The parallel is quite obvious and something that makes sense tbh.

Yes. In the free market something is worth what people are willing to pay for it. Look at the gem store cost of boost items. 100 for a random 10 hero point challenge unlock is really not that bad and in-line with other pricing. I don’t think they are going to budge on just giving us the Elite Spec so by offering gem store suggestions we are trying to find a point of compromise that benefits ArenaNet but also keeps the more casual players from getting left out in the cols.

Right….. You feel the Elite spec should be an in game progression and you are 100% ok with players who have no done map completion in core game on a character having to wait until they are almost done with HoT in order to be able to use the Elite Spec.

You’re analogy to human starter area with level 80 is deeply flawed. It comes down to size of the game world and time it takes to unlock things. A new character in GW2 can get all weapon skills unlocked by level 4 or 5. It doesn’t take long because these weapon skills are part of the core mechanic. Now a low level character does not have access to full trait path unlock but they are on starter maps so they don’t NEED that. They play mechanics are there by level 10 with full skill bar unlock by 30. Given the number of maps in GW2 core game you could say by time a player has made it though 15% of the game they have all play mechanics unlocked and by around 20% you have the full bar. From that point on you are just making choices about what else to unlock.

Juxtapose GW2 Heart of Thorns and players who only go into the game with 0-60 hero points are looking at not being able to even use the new Elite weapon skills until they around 70% done with the game. So it is really entirely different.

Where does the 70% come from? You’ll need ~200 hero points to unlock full Elite trait line to make a viable build. Hot has 400 hero points in total spanning over 3 maps. We have been told expect to have to have mastery unlocked before progressing to 2nd, 3rd map. So while it took the casual player in GW2 perhaps a week to get their full skill bar unlocked, casual player in HoT is looking at probably months before being able to max the trait chain and make a usable build with their Elite Spec.

It’s entirely different.

Wait where was it said that the total number of hero points in HoT is 400? I just remember them saying that 400 is the number needed to unlock the full elite spec traitline. Besides, there are four maps, not three.

You gain access to a full skillbar by level 31, and three full specs by level 71. You only have full access to skills and specs by level 80, or earlier if you managed to do enough hero point challenges.

Unlocking the trait to equip the elite spec gives immediate access to the elite spec’s weapon, which indicates that you’ll gain all weapon skills then. It takes time to unlock the remaining traits in the elite spec line.

And months is so terrible? It took me months to get my first level 80 after beginning at headstart back in 2012 because I had a busy life. And as you’ve said the size is smaller, so likely it’ll take a shorter amount of time to unlock everything. The doom and gloom y’all pull when we don’t have immediate access to something that ought to take effort is impressive.

And while I have a character with current world completion, I won’t be doing entire world completion on my revenant and yes I’m okay unlocking all HP in the jungle.

I would happily spend 5000 gems on an inventory manager. Make it automated or maybe a mini-pet that rides along in my bags, but what I REALLY want is a way to quickly and easily deal with all my annoying trash loot when my bags fill up. Ideally, I would want it to have some sort of UI whereby I could save preferences for salvaging, selling, etc. At a minimum this is what I would want it to do with one click is:
1) salvage – I want it to salvage all my white, blue, and green loot and put the mats in my collection
2) loot – any loot bags that drop or any lootable chest that comes in range should be automatically picked up and things like those luck essences should be used without me having to double-click them. Bags that drop between the time you die and the time you respawn in wvw should also be looted automatically.
3) stack management – any items in my characters inventory that are also in my bank should be automatically combined into one stack. I hate it when I forget to throw my stupid tomes in the bank.
4) sell – in addition to junk, i would love to be able to automatically sell all those useless green sigils and runes that pile up after salvaging.

I might actually buy those silly things if you were able to use them on all your characters simultaneously.

This is honestly the ONLY reason I have not bought the permanent harvesting tools. Anet could have made a lot more money if they had simply doubled the cost and made this an upgrade that automatically applied to all characters. The annoyance of removing them, putting them in the bank, and then taking them out again makes them worthless to anyone with multiple characters.
