Some of the npc’s in southsun cove have some really cute swim suits, I don’t see why people shouldn’t be able to get them for their own characters. Seems npc’s get to dress better than us.

From what I’ve learned in this game ( never was an issue in any other game I’ve played) some people just like to dictate to others how they should dress their own personal characters which really makes no sense at all whatsoever that they would be in some one elses business like that, but hey that’s just how some people are I guess. I’m so glad it’s not like that in real life, I wear whatever the heck I want in real life and no one tells me anything.

Actually, I believe what he was trying to say is that usually a lot of MMOs are trying to sexualize men or women to attract a broader audience, so he probably felt that GW2 didn’t do that because the game had more quality and didn’t need those type of schemes to get people to play it.
Now, it’s a matter of preference, but I honestly believe that’s what he tried to do.
As for me, as I said before… Swimsuits in GW2 give me nightmares of the diving google and me falling to my death (but that’s solely on my bad jumping skills) :P

Yea but 1 of the main reasons some people play mmorpg’s is to dress up their characters in outfits and armor that they find appealing , yea the actual playing of the game is nice too but the dressing up of your character can be even more fun. And some people don’t want to dress their characters in something bland and boring they want to make them look more interesting, and nobody else should be in your business telling you what you can or can not wear in a fantasy game that you payed for, that’s just silly and intrusive.

Seeing someone wear a bikini into a Tequatl fight COMPLETELY breaks all immersion. I can’t speak for Anet, but I am 99% sure that Anet will never add freakin Bikini or swimsuit outfits. And for that, I am grateful.

What’s the difference in some one going into battles without any armor on at all showing off their ugly yellow underwear and bra? I see that every where even in pvp, I think it would be better to just make a bikini/ bathing suit set for them so they can have armor stats while playing which helps not only them but everyone else around them on their team or at the boss fight or whatever. I even remember reading a post on here about armor where this person was playing a norn male and couldn’t find any shorts for him so decided to just never wear pants ever so he or she could get the look they were going for even if it meant sacrificing armor stats. So yea you aren’t going to stop people from not wearing cloths, they might as well add nice things for people who like that look so they can enjoy their game more and be more effective. And if people don’t like looking at others characters they should add something to turn off other people’s character models that would solve both problems.

Rather than having swimwear as an outfit, I’d prefer having swimwear customization, but right now we only have this:

  • Diving Goggles
  • A small beach in Southsun.

These force you into underwear, because we are poor and we don’t have swimsuits.

So underwear is our default swimwear, and swimwear customization would allow us to customize our underwear replacing it with swimsuits, and dye it.

But for swimwear customization to make sense, more places need to be added to put you in swimwear mode, because there’s too few right now. Just diving goggles and a beach.

For example:

  • Hot springs (like Zelechor Hot Springs), healing springs (like the oasis in the wastes) and other pools of water in places with no prominent combat, where you can /sit and get a little boon effect for a long time, like healing over time and vigor.
  • Lion’s Arch seaside beach bar and other relaxation areas in cities where people could go in swimwear, like swimming pools, the Grove’s ponds, saunas and hot springs and the like.
  • Crab Toss.
  • Southsun Survival.
  • New beach activities or adventures scattered all over the world on sea and river shores.

But I don’t think swimwear should be ever used for outfits.

1. What game are you playing, and who are you playing with? I’ve never seen anyone in their underwear in this game unless I previewed an armor piece that my character couldn’t wear. If you add stats to a bikini, that’ll simply increase the number of people running around with less clothes on – that’s simply a dumb idea.

2. Well, the number one difference is that it completely breaks immersion. It’s simply stupid to be able to wear a swimsuit into battle. MMORPG’s used to be about fighting difficult enemies, finding friends to quest with, and fully decking your body with pimped-out gear. Now it’s just about the people that played barbie-dress-up and korean MMO’s that want to dress up their characters in swimsuits. That’s equivalent to a “My Little Pony” fan at a monster truck rally trying to add pink to the trucks and make the drivers wear dresses. They simply don’t appreciate what’s already there and are trying to change the genre into something else. I hope you didn’t take offense to that, as I meant none.

3. I’m, by no means, against underwear in MMORPGs. It’s tolerable because nobody willingly chooses to wear nothing into a teq fight, and you really don’t see it often. When you add swimsuits, I guarantee you will see more people wearing bikinis (which is just as bad as the underwear). And worse – they can wear that crap into a teq fight. Immersion = broken.

If you want to throw swimsuits into the game, be my guest. I’ll find a different game if that happens.

Soo in other words mmorpg’s are for macho macho men and not for girls or boys who like playing dress up, k gotcha (too bad that isn’t true though) I wasn’t a mmorpg player until I saw the beautiful picture on the gw 1 box while shopping at Target and thought wow she’s pretty & those cloths look awesome, ( WAY better than the cloths on Lara Croft in Tomb Raider which was the game I was playing at the time) lets buy this game….after that I was addicted to mmorpg’s and mostly because I like playing dress up (and the game play in gw1 was also insanely fun & addictive, haven’t found another game as fun as that one yet, probably never will)

Oh and swim suits are already in the game just not for personal characters….
And like I said before, they could add an on-off button for showing & hiding other people’s characters so your eyes won’t melt whenever you see something you don’t like, personally I don’t like how some people’s characters look ( especially the extremely thin stick figure ones dressed like some anime cartoon characters, I find those VERY annoying to look at) but I don’t throw a hissy fit about it, I just simply look the other way and go about my business.

I’m the type to usually just slap on the armour that I think my character looks cool in, then I get on with playing the game.

I’ve never really been immersed enough in a game, that seeing someone else running around in their underwear would ruin the game for me. I’ve never been one for realism in games. I like games to be as far from reality as they can be.

More options is always cool with me. I put on armour that makes my characters look cool and get on with in-game stuff, others spend a lot of time “playing Barbie” as people tend to say =P Whatever floats your boat, it’s all fine with me.

I appreciate immersion, but GW2 is a bit too far gone for “immersion-breaking” to make good criticism for an idea. The game already contains far sillier extremes than bikini warriors.

His comparison to the game as a Monster Truck rally did.

But it was just an exemple. I could say the same thing with women : a Monster truck fan trying to add cars in a… I don’t know, Hello Kitty reunion. Plus, it’s not “If one of the competitors wants to show up with a frilly, glitzy truck”, it’s “If one of the competitors is trying to force the others to have some MLP stuff and making the others wear dresses.”
It was to show it’s kinda arkward and not necessary.

But hey, if you wanna sunbath on a undead covered beach, why not ? xD

What’s really annoying is that Korean MMO fashion trend. Now that every game (or mods, just look at Nexusmods for Skyrim, it’s ridiculous) add bikini armors, we are lucky to have a MMO with not too much light armors. But it’s just my opinion, after all ; I won’t force people to wear some armor if, one day, swimwears are available. I just find it unnecessary.

Gotta agree with you there. There’s already plenty of “immersion breaking” things in GW2.

Running around in-game as a practically naked human female isn’t something I personally want to do, but if some players want to do it, then it’s their decision. I’ll just stick to my fully armoured characters.

that’s simply a dumb idea.

Judgmental and rude to call what other people like “dumb”. Try not to impose your views as general truths.

It’s simply stupid to be able to wear a swimsuit into battle

Again, your opinion. People have different ideas about what “fantasy” means. Generally it doesn’t refer to reality. Also calling it stupid is again rude and judgmental.

They simply don’t appreciate what’s already there and are trying to change the genre into something else.

That’s a kittenumption and rather vindictive.

I hope you didn’t take offense to that, as I meant none.

After your other statements I have a hard time believing that.

Also I remember you saying something about having morals. Apparently your morals do not extend to being denigrating towards other people’s ideas. A shame really.

Personally I don’t need swim suits, but what I find immersion breaking is contemporary clothing in fantasy games. Look at Aion where people have flippers and diving goggles, tuxedo’s etc. I also left that game because of that (and other reasons). I do get the point of immersion breaking but immersion is also linked to personal opinions about what breaks immersion, but this is a fantasy game still and there are plenty of examples in the fantasy genre of scantily clad heroes (male and female for that matter) that can withstand the biggest monsters and magics. Not realistic perhaps but it is fantasy.

So I can understand immersion issues when it comes to contemporary versions of clothing but not for moral or realism reasons…it is fantasy after all.

It’s a game forum. The truth is not to be found here.

Swimsuits are perfectly immersive… IYKWIM.

Seriously, NPCs use swimsuits in southsun cove, while we are forced to dive in undies whenever we try to do the google jumps. Not being able to use a proper swimsuit when you need it is way more stupid than to use them to go into battle.

The “impracticality” argument is moot in this case, because every player already has the option to go into battle in underwear, or using any of a huge selection of outfits and armor that are even less protective than any normal swimsuit.

Finally, @Galtrix, your Morals aren’t superior to mine or Ellies, so they cancel out. We are then forced to use Ethics to settle the discussion, and Ethics will, without any doubt, declare your stance on this topic is unreasonable.

“All they need to do…” Easy to say. Often, suggestions that seem inconsequential to us require far more work that it would appear on the surface, because we’re not devs. It would still likely take a non-insignificant amount of work to fit those outfits for all races and genders.

Do your “morals” keep you from going to beaches in the summer, or swim parks, and wearing swim wear yourself? It’s not like the minute someone puts on swimwear they are somehow “bad” people that “offend your morals.”

“This video is how girls feel about armor.” News flash, honey. -I’m- a girl and the first thing I do when I load Skyrim is get that mod to make ALL the armor less covering for females. I want something pretty, not something that feels like I’m tuna crammed into a tin can. This is a GAME. If your character wears a chainmail bra you have just as much chance to stay alive as someone wearing a full suit of armor that covers their entire body. This game is called “Fashion Wars” for a reason. As in, most of what people do is get outfits, dress up, and try to look good.

Let people dress their characters how they like. It’s not hurting anyone if they dress them in slightly less clothing than something you would put on your character. There are a LOT of clothes that cover the entire body in this game, but not a lot of clothes for the people who like to wear less on their characters unless you’re a light armor female.

Swimsuits will be a welcome addition to Fashion Wars, I think. I wish other people would try to stop putting their “morals” and “how women feel about armor” on everyone as if they speak for everyone in the entire world. Swimsuits are fine, they are no less immersion breaking, as someone said, than a giant cat with Macaw wings and purple hair in rainbow colored armor.

Oh and for the person who says this is “not an RP’ing game,” it totally is. There are lots of Rp’ers on here, they hang out in the hot springs and take off their armor, I know because I’ve been in RP guilds before. So, yes, this IS an RP game. Sorry

No.

Please don’t waste resources on this.

it already exists in-game, all they need to do is make an outfit out of it…..

“All they need to do…” Easy to say. Often, suggestions that seem inconsequential to us require far more work that it would appear on the surface, because we’re not devs. It would still likely take a non-insignificant amount of work to fit those outfits for all races and genders.

you are no dev, i know how.
except for asura and charr the outfits fit any, both genders are already made so that’s no excuse.
the model and skin of the bikini and shorts have the same easiness behind it as the bra and undies, the only challenging part is to fit the bikini or shorts for charr.
i think the asura are gonna share the male version but even if the female asura has it’s own version, it’s far easier then ppl make it seem.

ps. i made models and maps for half life, unreal tournament and the cry engine (for personal use), the dev part is really not an all mighty reason to say “we know nothing”, just shows that they know how a game ticks.

I’m confused. Isn’t half the female armor in the game already just a bikini with boots and gloves added on? You can already hide the gloves. Ask Anet for a boot hiding option and you’re all set.

Yea I really don’t see how morals has anything to do with clothing, I also have morals and no where in my morals does it say you must be fully covered from top to bottom, not sure which country he’s from but in mine (USA) people wear what they want and it doesn’t harm anyone else or break any code of morals.

Is this an Emperor’s new clothes request? You can always take off your armor and outfit and play challenge mode.

Maybe I am confused because the request was for invisible armor versus no armor at all (otherwise known as PvE commando.)

Sorry if did not read the whole debate.

Uh…what does public nudity have to do with wearing swim suits? Swim suits are clothes, last time I checked. Galtrix you’re not even making sense any more with your “moral” argument, here. Our country’s morals say we have to wear clothes, of which swimsuits are one of the choices. Your point in bringing up public nudity was??

I can see it now. An expansion that’s beach themed. Guild Wars 2: Beach Volley Ball. The elder dragon would be an inflatable beach toy called Inflatious, attacking Tyria with his army of inflatable beach balls. They’ll also add navel warfare, where the players take part in banana boat combat =P

But in all seriousness, adding bikinis/swimsuits isn’t going to break the game or anything. I personally wouldn’t use them, but I don’t see any reason to try and stop other people having them.

If a bikini is actual casual wear depends on the area u come from. Do u live near the sea or vacation spots than it’ll be more common than when u live inland. Where I live you would get stared at if u go shopping in a bikini, because it is indeed not considered proper. There is no reason to talk someone down because they grew up not having a beach 2km away.

For the sake of rp’ing. Make the underwear customizable or add tonic(like the common clothing tonic, although that limits color choices). Rp’ers can change their underwear into swimwear and take their armor off/use tonic to splish splash with the norn in their hot spring. No actual dungeons/fractals would have bikini’s/speedo’s running around.

For the record, not big fan of wings either despite owning them. Some people forget to turn them off when doing fractals/dungeons and ur screen is filled with wings when u have a fat norn/charr teammate.

tl;dr:
Rp’ers get their nice swimsuits and can make beach vacations with tonic or customizable underwear. And people who don’t like it won’t find it around every corner. I’d say this is a safe solution that keeps both parties happy? ^^

Please don’t add this. It makes any half-decent game seem extremely lame.

It is lame to allow people to dress how they want?

Yes, since i know people wanting it will be pounding to their toons on screen AND it will break immersion.

Also you are not able to dress how you like – i want to look like Solaire and i can’t + outfits can’t be mixed with regular armour so no. No. No. No.

So because you can’t have the exact mix you want, others can’t as well.

I’m glad you aren’t in charge of design.

Sorry, but I have morals

He said while playing a game that revolves around murder, war and mayhem.
It’s so bizarre when people have moral objections with certain attire in video games, yet they kill countless of people in these games for currency.

Seriously, it’s a video game, anything goes. It’s not real. Games today are filled with violence, murder, war, torture, blackmail, slavery, genocide and many more ‘immoral’ things. Yet no one has a problem with this, instead they complain about skimpy clothing and naked people…

I don’t really want to see half-naked woman running around.

Just because you don’t want it doesn’t mean that no one should have it.

Haha. Funny. Then why does the USA have rules against public nudity?

The USA also have rules against murdering people, yet that’s exactly what we do in Guild Wars 2, and many other games.
