While I was doing the gauntlet, I noticed this Sylvari NPC wearing human tier 2 light pants. I’m not sure if this is a bug, or some foreshadowing that we might be able to mix and match them in the future (considering the rage after Flamewrath armor), but I just decided to post it and see if I can get any feedback. Sorry the screen is a little dark, I attached a preview of my mes with those pants/skirt for comparison.

Its not a bug, during the Beta it was possible to wear the cultural armor from other races. Now only NPC can wear them even tough i got no idea why Anet did this.

I think the outrage was more about the fact that you could buy what was effectively T3 armor (or an even cooler model, depending on your opinion) for gems at a much cheaper amount than the 100+ gold you’d normally need to spend.

In addition to that, the other two armors were reskins of the exotic medium WvW armor (which didn’t look good even with the flaming touch) and a basic karma armor (which also didn’t look good even with the flaming touch). If they had made them all T3 cultural armors, the outrage may not have been so bad…except towards the two races whom didn’t have their armor used.

In ddition to the Human T3 being flamekissed, they could’ve taken two other cultural sets people liked and made them flamed up versions (like the Norn T3 heavy, the Human T3 medium or Norn T3 medium, or even the Asuran T3 heavy.) Part of me would love the idea of being able to mix and match cultural gear from different races together, seeing as the flamekissed armor’s original form showed they can clearly do it (as well as the things this thread points out) But no. :/

The problem was more that it was only the t3 light human cultural that was opened to other races. The number of people protesting about it was actually smaller than number of people asking for all other culturals to be opened in similar way – but here was no way Anet would have been able to make good-looking reskins of 44 more armor (5 races, 3 tiers, 3 weight categories) – or even 14 more (if they decided to go only with t3). At least not fast enough to matter. And if they weren’t going to do that, pulling and redoing flamekissed was the only reasonable alternative.
Cultural armor restriction is not something you can ease on only partially – if you do, you need to be prepared to go all the way. Anet wasn’t prepared.

yeah, well, when Anet tried to let us do it with the light flame armor a bunch of whiny people howled with rage until they changed it.

Blame your fellow players, is the message I’m trying to get across here.

Or, people can blame the “whiners” while completely missing the core of the problem.

Actions, not words.

Human light T3 was the only armor set, though. The skin lost a significant amount of value if that existed – and it existed for every other race no less!

Still, it strikes me that they should revisit the idea of all races have all racial armors. If I could get Charr’s heavy T3 on a human or a norn, I’d be giddy. It’s not that I have a thing for humans, I just have a thing against Charr. It’s the LDoA in me.

Personally, I’d prefer it if the Cultural armors were kept race-specific…

…However, we should get more armor sets which are inclined towards cultures other than human. Outside of cultural and appropriate dungeon gear(TA gear is Sylvari for example), most armor sets seem to be very human, as far as design go. More armor sets which have a racial/regional flavor while also being equippable by everyone (and not being gem store stuff) would be fantastic.

Specifically this set because I want the top.

First of all, we should get all NPC-only armors.

I’d like to be able for all races to be able to wear all cultural armors!

And if it results in non-human armor clipping badly on humans – suck it up, because everyone else has to deal with that sort of bullkitten with every other non-cultural armor in the game (Especially Charr, who also have to deal with it on their cultural armor).

Ask for it all you want, you just wont get Sylvari cultural armor in the deal.

Exactly! NPCs get all the nice things. Like those sylvari NPCS who are strutin’ their stuff all over the place, wearing skirts and fancy blouses that don’t exist anywhere else, humans with their fishets and long skirts…
