Lately I have been seeing so many threads about Tengu and the desire to have them as a playable race (and they would be awesome). I’ve also seen threads on centaurs and skritt… kodans and more…

However…

There is one race I haven’t seen anything for! Did everybody forget about the Largos?

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Largos

Although I highly doubt this will happen anytime soon if ever – I feel that the Largos would be pretty fun to play or even just see more of in the game!

We have so many underwater areas and open water on the world map, but nothing is really being done with it. The underwater areas are some of the most beautiful areas in the game and it’s a shame that this aspect of GW2 isn’t used more. Can you imagine just how cool an underwater home-city would be?

Come’on guys. Largos need some love!

Largos rely on mystique for pretty much their entire racial characteristic. Bringing them out into the open makes no sense whatsoever.

Whatever their rules and traditions dictate, they pretty much write themselves off, willingly, from interaction with wider society.

You notice that they no longer bother to put underwater weapons in the new Black Lion sets and they took out the underwater PvP fights. To me that signals they won’t have major underwater content any time soon. Which means, no Largos.

Lately I have been seeing so many threads about Tengu and the desire to have them as a playable race

Yes, their are current topics, but it is not a sudden whim by the community, Tengu have been a much desired race since GW1 days when GW2 was first announced. The community’s opinion on races is not relay hot news. Usually the second most wanted race is Quaggan then Skritt.

Largos are very low down on my own list of desirable races. If we were not to get Tengu I would much rather see Skritt or Grawl.

Anyway, a new race is best saved for an expansion, as the Jungle dragon is next and the related race is already in game, we can skip that. As the Tengu are currently fighting Primordius minions, we would more likely see that race when an expansion for that dragon is released and as it is such an important one it will likely be the last. If they released an expansion focused on Bubbles, then the Largos/Quaggan would be a good playable race to include with it.

Still, Arena Net might never include new races, no doubt it would take monumental effort to create all the new models, textures and animate the race. Not to mention the sheer volume of content required to create personal stories and retrofit them into the living world.

As Astral pointed out they seem to have abandoned underwater features, which I find extremely disappointing as I personally love the underwater areas and combat.

I would personally love to see an expansion revolving around Bubbles down the track, overhauling and improving the underwater combat and featuring Largos as a playable race.

Yeah, after reading that wiki page they sound almost like a dragons minion. They “hunt” and remain underwater most of their lives. With little info on Bubbles and the Largos, I’m gonna take a stab in the dark and say they’re minions.

I would love to see Largos as a playable race, since we know so little about them! Very unique race also they’re sooo kitten,
I just hope we’ll get any new races and professions soon enough!

I love Largos, they’re my second favorite non-playable race and also the race that I want to become playable most after Tengu. Neat lore and awesome appearance. But its not the right time for them to show up.

I could maybe see Largos happening at some time in the future when if / when we venture south to confront the Deep Sea Dragon. Since once we do that, we’ll be in the Largos’ homeland, which means encountering more of them (which gets rid of the whole “they need to be mysterious!” problem), and they’ll actually have a valid reason to join with the other races.

Right now it would be completely out of left field for the Largos to suddenly show up en-mass, which is what making them playable would do.

Conversely, the Tengu area shares a border with the Maguuma region, so it would fit much better for the Tengu to join now.

I would hope that they introduce any important races before the plot requires them, so we can get to know and care about them before they’re thrust into center stage. That’s why they need to introduce Tengu before Primordus becomes the next focus.

I’m not sure if they’ll do it now, but it should happen at some point.

Really awesome to see this thread. Largos is definetly my favorite race in the whole game. However I do hope they will become playable, I dont think they will. Their culture is all about hunting. As you can see they can stealth and be they thief like predator. Making a warrior Largos for example would take away their whole race identity of sneak hunter.

If its not the Tengu then second most likely would seem to be Watchknights/Steam creatures. Scarlet created them and noticed that they were becoming independent/sentient and learning/evolving before she shipped them off via her portal magic. Who knows where they all ended up . . . some in Timberline but others could have ended up somewhere that we have not discovered yet. There is also the alternate Tyria where an evil version of the PC uses them as their army. Could come from there as “refugees.”

Nooooooo. Not Steam Machines/Watchknights. If they put those in the game then someone will want the female ones to be able to wear dresses and be cute. They’ll come to the forum and make threads about it and frazzle my mind.

I don’t think we will ever get Skritt, Quaggan or Grawl as playable races because they are considered “Lesser Races” in the game. They are not as advanced as the major races. I think the best races to be added to the game are Tengu, Largos and Kodan.

Tengu have a capital city, they have deep lore and storyline so they are much better canditates for playable races, but I don’t think they will become playable just yet, maybe when we get to Primordus. Tengu also have the perfect excuse to go to Cantha, they have good ties with Cantha in their story so either when they introduce Primordus or Cantha is my bet for Tengu as playable.

Largos would make an excellent expansion addition when we go to fight Bubbles, I mean they could more easily lead the other races to fight Bubbles, because they are better suited for underwater combat and probably have more knowledge of Bubbles. Although the devs are moving away of underwater combat FOR NOW, I doubt we will face Bubbles on land, but the majority of his content will be underwater, when thatcomes, so Largos could be introduced then.

Kodan might become a playable race when we go further north to fight Jormag. They could easily join the Pact to reclaim their lost homeland back North and provide excellent lore/story against Jormag in their personal storylines.

There are a few “unique” choices they could add to the game too.

1) The Mursaat are “phased out” and living in their cities in some parallel reality/universe of their own creation, but the awakeking of Mordremoth and Scarlet’s messing around with the leylines might force them to come into our physical world once again. They would make a very interesting racial choice and they are a race that is actually unique enough and hasn’t been done before. Only spellcasters can be Mursaat though, which is a real problem because so far there aren’t any racial restrictions to professions

2) Palawa Joko’s horde. I know this might sound crazy, but imagine the situation in the Crystal Desert at the moment. There were 3 major factions fighting there, Kralk’s branded, Zhaitan’s Risen and Palawa’s undead horde. With Zhaitan dead, Palawa could possibly try to take command of the Risen. Playing an undead might offer some interesting gameplay mechanics AND the other players (Pact) could ally with Palawa once again in order to defeat Kralk, so that way Palawa’s minions could spread to the rest of Tyria. The Crystal Desert could even become something like WvW in a PVE setting, where the 3 factions fight for control, conquering forts/objectives etc the possibilities are endless

So, Tengu, Largos, Kodan are my 3 best bets for new races, just not now, when their respective “Dragon” comes.

Mursaat and Palawa’s Horde can make some interesting racial choices, with unique mechanics and ideas.

Skritt, Quaggans and Grawl are “lesser races”, so I doubt we will ever see them as playable.

Actually it is still just plain old Bubbles. The “S” has always been there, its just from Selbbub.

Back on topic: People seem to forget to consider the nightmare of Wing/Armor clipping issues when considering Largos as a playable race. And you thought Charr were a problem?
