I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you to Anet and voice actor Steve Blum for bringing 2 great pieces of my past together in Guild Wars 2.
TL:DR-Voice actor for Spike from Cowboy Bebop voices many NPS’s in GW2, Ghost of Captain Grumby sounds a lot like Spike!
Now my reason for the thank you. First I am sure that many people know that Steve Blum does alot of voices for GW2 and has done a wonderful job. Like many others, I got my start with Anet way back with the launch of OG Guild Wars. I started playing shortly after the launch and played through all expansions. This would have been when we could also watch Toonami every evening and Cowboy Bebop was and still is one of my all time favorites. These 2 things were ways that I have met a lot of great people and made life long friends and memories that will last a life time.
Now fast forward to last night. I just came back to GW2 after a long hiatus and am frantically working to get caught up on season 3 before next week and questing in Ember Bay when I come across Captain Grumby. I’m following the conversation then think to myself, wow he sound a lot like a character I’m familiar with, but who. So I continue listening, and after returning for a follow up it clicks. Hey, sounds like Spike from Bebop! Forgive me but I know a lot of great actors have done voices for various characters through out the franchise and have done great. But there was something special about the way that Steve Blum did this that brought back a wave of nostalgia from 2 things that I discovered around the same time and have lead to exciting times for me.
So Anet and Steve Blum, this is for you! Thank you for bringing both of those things together in a game we continue to support and cherish.
