Another point I’d like to make is that people are complaining they don’t get a single free character slot. When you purchase HoT on a new account you get FIVE free character slots.

I’m hoping for the sake of everyone’s sanity you’re being sarcastic.

stop complaining. you can choose to either update your ld account to HoT and have it all unlocked, OR get a new account with HoT included, but your old account won’t have HoT.
If you could have BOTH a new account with HoT and your OLD account with HoT then that means you would have TWO expansions, and that’s (like everything that people are complaining about) ridiculous.

They are adding mastery systems to the core game so you’ll likely get some of those, absolutely free. They are already giving you skill changes, specializations (save elite) , wvw map, stronghold all free. new armors and weapons aren’t very important because there is no more progression in these area’s, only skins. I think you are putting your old account on a pedestal.

Yes there will be new mastery content in the vanilla areas, however the Mastery system itself is part of the expansion. Your old account will not have access to the new ability to train Masteries and the rewards that come with it.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/reimagining-progression-the-mastery-system/
“The ability to train Masteries is unlocked at level 80 for all players that own Heart of Thorns. "

Without the new expansion, your old account can not progress at all with any of this new content.

Your idea is only good for those that don’t care about progressing their old accounts.

By the way, not wanting to toss 3 to 6 years of work (gw1 and gw2) aside and starting over is not the same thing as putting an old account on a pedestal.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

yes, people are complaing about it and I’ve read it several times already today. They say they want all a new player gets, and they can, if they start a new account.
then they say that they don’t want to have their old account with no HoT, that means they want both a new account with HoT and their old account with it too.
You can’t have it all.

Your logic is so flawed I can’t even wrap my head around it.

New players pay $50 and get everything. Existing players pay $50 and get the expansion only, which in content terms is a pale comparison to the original.

No one wants two HoTs and two accounts, how you’re coming to that conclusion is beyond me. All existing players want is to get the same value for their money as new players, which ISN’T HAPPENING.

If you don’t understand this simple concept, I really can’t think of any other way to explain it.

Learn to read please, people want same thing new people get yes.
they want expansion on their old account + a free none hot account.

new people = base account + expansion.
old people = base account + expansion (tied to their already existing account)

because what you’re asking is impossible, they can’t give you something you already have, simple as that. And that is what you people can’t wrap around your head. all you think is “I have been playing a long time, and therefore I need compensation and special treatment. beacuse birthday freebies and stuff isn’t enough.”

They aren’t giving anything to anyone. New players aren’t getting the base game for free. They are paying 50$ for it and the xpac. Saying it is free is just a cheap marketing tactic. Just last week the base game was worth 40$ all of a sudden it is worth nothing?

It’s impossible to give us something we already have? Really? That is your argument?

We aren’t asking for special treatment, we are asking for the same treatment. How do you not understand this?

let me use metaphor.

You got to a sandwich place every day and order a sandwich like a loyal customer.

Suddenly a new customer walks in and gets a sandwich and a drink for the price of your sandwich.

You ask for the same deal and the guy sells you a drink, for the price of a sandwich and a drink. He tells you that he sold you a sandwich yesterday so you don’t need one today.

Seems unfair?

by “base game is free”, that also means they pay the same price as vets but also have 5 character slots >=).

But… you have 5 character slots.
So?
Because theirs aren’t filled yet, that means something?
They aren’t getting an extra 5 slots. They are getting the same 5 slots you already have.
This argument makes zero sense to me. Nothing anyone has said can make it make sense. I’ve been reading the forums on this for 18Hrs or so, give or take. It still makes Zero Sense
You. Have. Five. Slots. So will they.

Well then you need to take a lesson in common sense dude.. how much dod you pay for your core game and those 5 slots.. how much you gunna pay for your shiny QoL expac with a mere drop of the content the core game has.. yes don’t forget some players have also had to buy gems to play the LS updates as well.
If like many of us you have been playing since BWE1.. your accounts will be lined with all manner of stuff, paid for upgrades etc etc.. the expac only upgrades that account to grant access to Hot it doesn’t not give you another account unless you register for a brand spanking new account and then pay another $50 to upgrade your existing account.. how do you fail to understand the rip off logic.

You fail to grasp that a new player gets everything upto the point of release for free plus $50 for the expac.. we get the same but have already paid that privilege 3 years ago and likely more since in some cases….

And to be honest, what new players are beating down the doors to pre-purchase? The $50 price tag is dangling there for vets to be sure.

for your sandwich comparison:
-you bought a sandwich yesterday for 2$.
-today there is a new ingredient on your sandwich, tomato.
-they now sell the sandwich for 3$
-you go and complain you want just the tomato for less than 3$ since you already have the sandwich, but they tell you they only come together, so you can’t get the tomato on its own unless you pay the full prize.
-you complain about being a “loyal” customer. (even though some of those are known to just sit on the place to steal wifi).
-they remind you that they know that and each year for your birthday they give you special freebies. But you want more.
-you keep complaining.

The veteran player has to effectively pay $5 for the same sandwich as new players who pay $3.

Such logic. Wow. There is a term for such a sandwich, which is quite unappetizing.

That’s the point.. we don’t want to buy something we already have, we just want the expac.
In doing what they are doing they are simply smoke screening the real cost of the expac in order to gain new players and subsidising any shortfall in their new account take up projections by ripping off players who have bought the game already.
Otherwise they would of simply offered the expac as a standalone upgrade for less.

If you want to by a second account then fine, except its not gunna be 75% off any time soon for sure but of course be prepared to pay out twice otherwise your existing account will be limited still to core game only and not HoT ready..
No sorry, this is a smokescreen attempt to cover shortfalls and to claw back money from all those 75% sales they had… clever hooks but utterly low imo.

If the game has depreciated to the point of no value, why then was it still on sale for full price yesterday… very fast depreciation if you ask me.

I think you got it wrong.

You bought a sandwich for 2$ yesterday
Today they add a slice of tomato to it and sell it for 2$ to a new costumer.
You walk up to the counter and order that same sandwich for 2$ but all they give you is a slice of tomato because you’ve already bought the sandwich.

Would you be willing to pay 2$ for a slice of tomato?

As much as the price is iffy.

A reminder on character slots. Whether you are a veteran or buy the game new with the preorder: YOU WILL HAVE 5 CHARACTER SLOTS

Everyone will start out with 5 character slots. No matter what. The issue is not the character slots. The issue is that the expansion is the same price as as the full game was.

Personally I bought the game for around 60 dollars. I have no issue purchasing the expansion for around 30 dollars. I think that number is fair. Half the content, half the cost. You can make the full game+expansion 50 dollars as a bargain to new people buying. Keep the other two at the prices they were at but toss in a title like “llama”

“Kentigem”-chief. Born cycle of Dusk. Wyld Hunt:
Learn as much mending and medical info as possible so that it can be added to the Dream.
Become the first Chief of Mending and guide the newly awaken as well as those who want to learn.

I think £35 is abit too much for an expasion. There should be an expansion only price( with no base game for old players at a discounted price and £35+ for new players or people who want an new account. I think this would be the most fair option as it lets people pick what they want.
