a dev has said that you’re supposed to be able to disable the voiceovers by hiding the backpack so it doesn’t display. That currently doesn’t work but a fix will go in soon.

So then the worries about it in wvw can be calmed down at least, as players will click the box to not give themselves away to the enemy in wvw at least.

I just wish I could get rid of the chat box the stupid backpack creates, and i’d be happy.

Loud. This thing is really loud. Can hear it a mile away.

I already have NPC chat turned off so I don’t hear this thing but the visual chat is annoying and distracting. If I’m doing some event like Teq or a dungeon, I’m keeping an eye out for things the people I’m playing alongside say. This means that the visual chat always catches my eyes and I automatically read it to make sure it’s not something I need to know. It’s distracting, annoying and since imo, it says stupid things repeatedly, it’s not something I want to see. If it was something I wanted to hear or see, I would have bought it for myself.

I really don’t see why there needs to be visual chat displayed on this sort of thing. Chat audible to other than the owner is bad enough. There’s already enough particle pollution in every fight. There’s no reason to add more unneeded junk.

Make the chat only something that the owner hears and sees.

The scary thing is, I would consider paying gems for a backpack that mutes and blocks all the chat bubbles of all the job-o-tron backpacks. The whole talking thing has become really old, really fast, especially when I’m in EOTM. The novelty has worn off and now all I think of when I see one of those backpacks is ‘oh no… not THAT thing again >_<’

Please add an option to mute this garbage and hide its chat bubbles. I am beyond sick of hearing it at this point. Ruins the game experience.

Ideally make it local only to the one wearing it. Nobody else needs to hear and see that crap. Let them opt-in by buying it but don’t torture the rest of us with it.

So tell me, how is the backpack any different than the above?

These are combat manuevers that tell you when certain buffs/debuffs are happening. Some of them are actually important audio cues. Not saying they can’t be annoying, especially the more ‘buff’ reaction ones like “I can outrun a centaur!”. They really needed to add a LOT more variation to voices or just scrap that sort of reactive buff.

Skill combats, though, I think it makes sense for a ‘shout’ to have a shout.

The backpack sounds have no practical purpose. It’s just for the purchaser to enjoy, so limit the sounds to the person who is wearing it. If you can’t enjoy it when the sound is only for the player, then you aren’t enjoying it for the right reasons.

This has actual value however. It tells you this person just got the Swiftness boon.
