I just use karma to buy free Ori tools now that my free winterdays gathering tools is just about to run out from a year ago lol . For me gem store tools are more pricey than I think they should be for a one per character. Imagine if outfits were like this.

Im used to games where outfits were like that, wouldnt make much of a difference for me.

Legendary gear isn’t apart of this discussion, it is account bound but it has no aesthetic link to the Gemstore, it is crafted or bought through the in-game market. Also, Legendary Armor will be earned through specific content within the game only. Legendary gear doesn’t fit as a good example describing why a change to our access to Unlimited Gathering Tools shouldn’t change. This is not an argument that includes Legendary gear.

The way we have access to the unlimited gathering convenience is extremely outdated. The item(s) in whole are linked to in-game but also real world currency. Gathering is a feature within the game, and at this point it should be earned through a system like Mastery’s. If ArenaNet still wants to earn money from it then we have the Glider concept. Gathering Nodes are a core part of the world and Mastery’s, I said so much more than what you quoted from me explaining why this should be a core feature of GW2. It’s another reason to buy the game than remain a F2P player forever.

I also mentioned them affecting the in-game market, I am still aware of this. Yet it doesn’t keep Unlimited Gathering from affecting the market anyway, it’s still a feature within the game that anyone can get. But there is still the risk of losing this convenience through accidental deletion. Through Character Delete or other.

Why should this feature not be apart of the core Mastery’s? Why should we not have a Account Wide convenience and assurance we aren’t going to ever lose our hard earned feature? I would rather a Tyria Gathering Mastery Tab than just Buy my way to Unlimited Gathering. Mastery’s aren’t perfect right now but it’s a great way to make Gathering more important and feel like we earned to use it.

But Legendaries are more relevant to the discussion because they actually are skins you can transfer to other characters via the wardrobe, just not the extra properties. Gathering tools are not skins but if all you are asking for is the custom animation to be transferable then at least your request would have precedence. What you’re asking for is an item duplicator because the infinite gathering tools are items with their own properties.

And at least Legendaries already have a mastery so why not just make it so Legendaries are account-wide duplicated among your characters?

But I guess you’re not grasping the fact that I’m making an analogy to your proposition. The only difference between your suggestion and mine is that the tools are purchasable through the gem store but so are salvage-o-matics and arguably, if you consider gold>gem exchange, it’s still all in-game.

To answer your questions from my opinion: Why should this feature not be apart of the core Mastery’s? Because it’s not nor does it need to be. Why should we not have a Account Wide convenience and assurance we aren’t going to ever lose our hard earned feature? You already do, it’s called shared bank/currency and if you don’t bother transfering all your stuff off of a character before you delete it, that’s your own problem. Why do people need to be protected from their own poor choices?

While you’re at it, why not suggest a salvage mastery? That’d actually make more sense since players still use a variety of salvaging tools to increase their odds and doesn’t really infringe on the salvage-o-matic.

I’ve never bought gathering tools for this reason.

It’s supposed to be convenient, and actually it’s not . Except if you play on only one character or you want to spend hundred of euros only to get gathering tools on all of your characters of course.

Yea, I never could understand it either. I would think if ppl had the patience to gather at all in the first place, they wouldn’t mind occasionally breaking a tool or having to mail a tool between toons. If that’s annoying, might as well forget the unlimited tools and just convert your gems to gold and buy your mats off the TP. Skip the middleman.

Meh if new tools auto equiped when the old one broke I’d probably not have bothered either. Its nice not haveing to worry about the tools. I know it will never “Pay” for itself, not without a couple decades of normal gathering and replaced tool costs but its a minor convenience.

Personaly I got 2 sets although that was before they became account bound. 1 sits on my main and the second gets shared around on whatever alt I’m useing. The alt scicle spends most of its time in a shared slot as I have 8 characters I rarely play siting on the flax farm for daily gathering. Its nice to not have to stock extra tools on them as some dont leave that spot unless I need to retrieve something being stored on them.

The only thing that has kept me from perma tools is the fact that it’s not an account unlock, that you can reclaim on all characters, same with the copper salvager.

Right now I only use the latter on my main, because they cannot expect me to buy 6 of those, and I can’t be kitten d to bank it every time I switch character.

Say what you will about being able to bank them and stuff, but if MMO’s like SWTOR and even Star Trek Online have account unlocks for just about anything priced higher then 5 euros, I would expect the same in GW2, which has a far better business model in my eyes then both of the aforementioned examples.

Having a wardrobe like Gliders is a flawed concept for Unlimited Gathering Tools, I will agree. What ArenaNet does is out of my hands, I’ll not come up with something else that’s completely changing the interface or adding completely new UI instead of using features already in-game. I can’t just imagine Mastery’s in a new light and bring in other exciting concepts: Pretending that Idea of mine is the way it should be done.

Gathering material is important in the game and it isn’t an excuse anymore to put these unlimited gathering tools behind the Gemstore. There is the resource to make a way to have progression towards getting Unlimited Tools.

Salvaging Mastery’s sounds really cool also. But there can be depth implemented into gathering resources. That’s what the Mastery’s are for, bringing depth to the game. It needs more work but Gathering should be apart of it. Gathering Nodes are already within the Mastery’s why should Gathering not be apart of that growth?

Currently this is what would work for ArenaNet to gain profit from customizing and give functionality to players. That isn’t something players buy their way to get. The wardrobe idea doesn’t need to be used but I do believe Mastery’s is apart of the answer, if done right. Gathering Tools shouldn’t be in the Gemstore anymore, ArenaNet is evolving the game and the gathering system/concept should change with it.

These ideas cannot be perfect, I understand that. I don’t develop the game personally but I will love to suggest a better solution with what we have now.

I don’t get why there are people that don’t like the idea of adding endless gathering tools to the wardrobe. It would make gathering so much more enjoyable because you won’t have to worry about what character you left your endless gathering tools. Yes, not everyone is switching through multiple characters but there are times where it is necessary like anyone working on their Guild Halls right now need a TON of flax so unless you are loaded with gold you will need to gather most of it. So, I put all my alts at the flax farm so It just took so much time to shuffle my endless harvesting sickle through all my characters everyday. If endless gathering tools was finally updated to the wardrobe system it would make gathering less stressful. So, instead of worry about what character my endless tools are on I instead could enjoy getting different looks for them that I like. It just simplifies the endless gathering tool system which would be nice. I’m not saying endless gathering tools are bad, but adding them to the wardrobe would just take them to that next level which would make them even better than they are now.

It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s that with them selling these items at 1000 gems each I think it’s unrealistic to think they’ll ever make them accessible to all chars at once through the hero panel. Not without paying for it in some way, such as the account bound slots. Now I can see them adding a skin wardrobe at some time. Just not the items themselves to all of your chars. If they did, I would expect them to charge more than 1000 gems each to pay for the loss of selling multiple sets of harvesting tools per account, or charging for account bound harvesting tool slots at X gems each.

Be careful what you ask for

That and I think it’s just people crying for free kitten.

I like free kitten as much as the next guy but I’d rather be gifted something for free rather than begging for it or hardballing someone into giving me stuff for free, like turning the tables on them and make them feel like they’re stealing from me so I somehow deserve something in compensation.

I’m not going to rail on people for wanting a suggestion, but you have to admit, it’s not that inconvenient to just transfer stuff over. Compared to how it used to be, where you had to have inventory slots dedicated to multiple salvage and gathering tools just to make sure you didn’t run out (or if you’re a conservationist like myself and could never allow myself to toss old under-utilized tools away and just kept them in case I needed to harvest lower tier materials), just having your 1 set of tools that you can transfer (which wasn’t even the case to begin with!) is far more convenient then the old system (or the less-old system!).

Still feels like a case of “give an inch and they take a mile” to me though.

A-net has provided shared inventory slots to solve this.
Sadly these are expensive as well and since you disliked the cost you will likely not approve of these.

(Also I still have a Molten Alliance Pick and a Chop-it-all Logging Axe which are soulbound. I should exchange them some day, but they feel so special now! :P + I never learnt about the exchange until it was too late and I’d bought more gathering tools which were account bound. ^^)

It is not to late, you can still do this while having it equipped at that merchant next to the trading post who sells that booster enchantment powder stuff.

What does the FOX say¿!

No one is arguing that the change would not be great. The argument with these kind of ideas is and always has been: what benefit does arenanet get out of it?

The gemstore convenience items are part of their business model. A change as suggested here would cut into their revenue since now every account will only get 1 gathering tool. Now you could make an argument that the amount of more gathering tools sold due to a better deal would outperform the amount of gathering tools sold when a single person buys multiple. This goes against the theory though that it’s easier to get money from a returning customer versus money from a new customer.

The thing is that really people only need 1 set of endless tools from there it’s all about the different looks. How they have it priced now for 1,000 gems is pretty pricey for me to actually want to buy it just for the cool new look or for the endless tools in general. If they were back at 800 gems like they started out as and in the wardrobe I would be more willing to throw money at them because they have came out with some cool new skins since the first set. I just don’t see them losing money by putting endless gathering tools in the wardrobe. I would actually have more of the different looks at this point, so they would have made more money off me personally with the wardrobe system.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say only a minority actually care about the gathering animation, especially if it cost 800 gems. If it cost something like “get your 1st tool set for 1000 gems and all other skins after are 250” then maybe…but it’s just a short little animation. You likely only see it if you’re out by yourself anyway and most of the purpose to get a boat load of skins is to show off to others.

Besides, I kind of like having to commit to something sometimes so it’s less often you run into others using the same stuff as you.

I might be willing to spend a few gems on the skins, if there were a skin wardrobe. But I’m not about to spend 3000 gems or 2400 gems per set of tools to get another set, now that I have one set and also have the account wide slots where all I have to do is click on them at start and end of a play period. Any suggestion needs to keep this account wide slots function in mind as it is already in game and is a fair workaround for the endless harvesting tools wardrobe.
